Welcome to the First Video in my 2020 Advent Series! I'm making Advent Calendars again and if you go to this link you can see the ones I made last year! these are quite different!
• Advent at The last Hom...
The 2020 calendars are going like hot cakes in the shop
www.thelasthomelyhouse.co.uk
along with the Sparkle Cards and the Books and Virtual Makes
Last year on Patreon I made a daily post for everyone from $1 which is still there for you to see. The next in this series - my gift to all Patrons - will be posted on December 1st! Best thing you can buy for $1 I think!
/ thelasthomelyhouse
I love the music at the start and end of this video - from Epidemic Sound it is called Meadows in Smaaland
I'll see you for the next Advent Video soon!
Love
Kate

Dear, sweet Kate. As always, your videos sweep us away from the harsh realities that surround us all. This was so precious, and I will make an advent calendar for my first grandchild who will join us in January. In the meantime, the lime green sofa, which is always there as a REFUGE, is such a welcomed place to be, even though, I suspect many of us differ politically, we all love biscuits and tea. God bless you.

I so love you to see all those sweet things for your kids and grandchildren. It's special you make a lot yourself. I remember my oldest asked me why he never had store-bought stuff XD He did have lots of it but I love to make things myself too. Now he's older he knows how special it is.

I found you again! 💕😍👏🏼 I had shoulder surgery after pulling a wheelbarrow, full of water, during 100* degree weather, in one of those super hot California summers. I was out of commission and could not find you. I’m happy to see you again, and I’m inspired to try new projects. Stay safe and thank you for your kind and generous spirit. María Lucía 🤗

What fun it will be watching you do things with them. I love your shawl/ scarf. I remember when you made that. Thank you for all of your clever ideas and taking the time to make these videos and share.

November 20 2022 What a brilliant idea. I believe I will get on the move with doing this one for the extra fun of adding treats or a small message for my two teen grandchildren.. I love it with the branch and adds o the natural look of the bags. Thank you for all the lovely ideas and sharing your incredible family. You are such a lovely person and would be so happy with you as my neighbor.

Kate what a fun video, your kids are so lucky. I laughed so hard when you pulled out the "big guns" loppers and then laughed harder when you brought them in the house for a final snip. Nothing stops you, Kate. What a hoot.

Great idea for an Advent calendar! Thanks. My favourite Advent tradition is to light an Advent candle on each Sunday of Advent, adding one each Sunday and then an extra one on Christmas Day. I try to put together a little tray with branches and a few ornaments on which I place the candles. I'm watching this at the end of March, so I'll keep this Advent calendar in mind for next year (hopefully a COVID-free Christmas season by then!).

Now I know what to do with that bright red thread I received years ago as part of a mystery bundle. 😊 The sewn paper package idea will be great for the smaller gifts I have for my grandkids. Thanks Kate! And greetings to everyone on the sofa! I’m passing down some raspberry jam thumbprint cookies . . . 😉

Thank you for the sewn paper packet idea! My Boston professor kids arrive this week and will quarantine in the cottage down the road until they're able to join us here. A string of chocolate filled packets will be there to greet them. You've also shown how to make the pieced paper pin cushions so the one I tried will be tucked in as a special surprise.. So clever Kate. Hmm making me think of doing something similar. Nothing sweet though. And on cue my brain has emptied. Maybe I can regift what they already have and need. My daughter as a youngster (about 10) couldn’t afford to buy us gifts. We didn’t connect missing favourites like a CD, pen, glue stick, etc with anything other than misplacing the items. It wasn’t until unwrapping gifts on Christmas Day that we discovered what she had done. I thought it was brilliant. It brings a smile even now some 20 odd years later. 💜🎁💚😁

I just finished making the Advent pouches from your 2018 instruction. I found a used crimper for 2 dollars! I made one for each of my children and grand children and for a few friends...totaled six. Some I made with quotes. Others trivia. And one was unusual scrabble words. It was great fun making them and I thank you, again, for all of the fantastic ideas! In 2018 I had ordered your advent pouches and enjoyed having one each day with a candy and quote...so uplifting at the time. Maybe next year I will try the paper shapes which also looks like fun. I think my kids are going to have an expectation after this year...it's going to be a big hit!

Dear Kate, I am making an adventcalendar for my mum every year for a few years now. She made them for me so many years and now it's time to give back. And I get a bought chocolate calender every year. She knows that I am never too old for one 😉 I usually make between 3 and 6 calendars each year, but this year everything is different :) I am also trying to reduce the waste I am creating with the calendars and use things I have or I can collect the weeks before December. xoxo from Germany Stephanie

Hi Kate, I would just like to thank you so much for your videos. I have a lovely house like yours out in the country. I also love to sew, craft and garden, I even have hens like you, but and a big but, I have been so depressed for such a long time now and haven’t felt motivated to do anything. Also I live in Spain and our lockdown is pretty brutal! Oh and like you I have my three lovely cats, Basil, Katy and Sally. Also have two dogs, a ginormous mastin called Teddy and a small dog called Grace and we all get on very well. Anyway the reason for my comment is to let you know how much your videos motivate me and are helping me through a very difficult time, thank you xxx

I shouldn't laugh, but while I was talking to my oldest grandson (10) this morning, I said I had an idea about a Chinese Checkers game board. He started to laugh, and said, "You told me 3 times yesterday, Grandma!" Hmm, after he said that, I remembered I talked about it once, but definitely not 3 times! Oh, my memory, or in most cases, the lack thereof. Love your advent calendars.

This note is to your Grandson, if I may? Dear young man: Grandparents can be challenging at times and I realize that you do not know me from the moon, but, i wanted a chance to tell you a bit of life experience that you may be glad someone shared with you. Here we go... After I became the eldest living family member in 2011, I began to think how wonderful it would be if I could sit and listen to tje voices of family who were no longer alive. People like my parents and grandparents. I wished I could sit and listen to her tell me the things i was tired of hearing as a child. I thpught why didn't i make a record of things she said stories she told me and funny things she did and the feel of her hugs especially when she kissed our foreheads at bedtime and said "don't let the bed bugs bite". Maybe you could record her answers to your questions or record her telling you about what things were like when she was growing up. Now with this COVID virus things are a little different but it is a great time to learn about the changes in this world that have occurred in our elders lives. Someday we can share what we heard with younger ones or ones yet to come along. Someday years from now you will have such loving stories about your visits with your Grandma. I imagine she must think you are very very special person because she tells you things. Some Grandmothers are very busy and don't have time to share much with their Grandchildren. Lucky you!. I will be hoping you have a very happy life full of great adventures, friendships, superior memories and stories from your Grandmother. Hope you will enjoy your holidays this year. Sincerely a kind old Native American lady who lives on a hill in Idaho, USA and loved teaching young people too. 💛🎶☺ Joy and peace to you all.

What a wonderful advent idea. A tip about pruning that size or bigger branches, don't try cutting straight across, cut on an angle, so much easier. and always use the lopper, and save the secateurs for the smaller wood. ( from a 60+ year old lady who does kiwifruit pruning in New Zealand)

You are very inspiring and I don’t think you even know it. You inspired me this year to send away advent envelopes in the mail with small gifts for each of my grandchildren. So they will receive an envelope with a very small present each day in December leading up to Christmas. But I loved watching you sew the paper advent gifts and I think I will do it this way next year. Thank you for all your ideas and just being real.
