Indeed a great book. I will be starting it again this week, having re-done the Desire of Ages. Ellen White was simply the most prolific author of spiritual material. I thank God that while she is not equal to Christ, she left behind her such a treasure trove of blessings we can all benefit from. Thanks Elder Wilson

The concept of the 'Heavenly Sanctuary' as a literal building that Jesus literally ministers within as a literal High Priest doesn't make sense and doesn't align with the rest of scripture (when we allow scripture to interpret scripture). Even Solomon knew that - see 1 Kings 8:27. The sanctuary and the priesthood were 'object lessons' using things that fallen humans were familiar with to begin to open their mind to the functional principles of "higher" realities (as per Isaiah 55:8-9) that are unfamiliar to fallen humanity. This is why Jesus was frequently saying "What is the Kingdom LIKE? What shall I COMPARE it to?" (eg Luke 13:18, 20, etc). And remember Jesus even referred to Himself as a sanctuary/temple that would be destroyed and rebuilt - but His hearers mistakenly also thought Jesus was talking about a literal building by use of that word (John 2:19-21). God's ways are so much "higher" than anything we are familiar with in our fallen world (Isaiah 55:8-9). So how is God going to gradually, progressively help us grow in our understanding of those "higher ways"? God has to use what we do know to gradually help us grow towards understanding what we don't yet know. Thus He uses metaphors and object lessons - just like we do to try and help children grow in their knowledge and understanding the wider adult world.

Agreed. This is what I am trying to say to my fellow Adventist brothers. If those things were literal, it doesn't make sense because it destroys the concept of being Omnipotent or Sovereign.

@cyphlone3306 Spot on - especially if God is an authoritative rather than authoritarian Sovereign with corresponding authoritative rather than authoritarian omnipotence (as acknowledged by observers in Matthew 7:29). Keep going - you are on the right track biblically when you offer truth in kindness to others who may be interested in authentic truth.

If i get you well, heaven is a metaphor,God's throne in heavenly sanctuary is a metaphor just like jesus seated aside of God right? The Bible is very clear about everything. The following men of God saw him and other nhabitants of heaven including sanctuary items, they saw everything literally, isaiah 6:1,john in revelation 4:2-3,11:19,8:3, acts 7:55,Mark 16:19, psalm 11:4,Paul confirmed about heavenly sanctuary in Hebrews 8.being omnipotent doesn't change anything to him and his throne in heavenly sanctuary

@@nfreddy1 Thanks for your reply. No, I am not saying that heaven is a metaphor. But yes I am saying that the items the bible writers saw in heaven were metaphorical representations of literal realities - not the literal realities themselves. For example, Jesus is not literally holding 7 literal stars in His right hand, does not have a literal sharp two-edged sword coming out of his mouth (Rev 1:16), does not have a literal set of keys to Hades and death (Rev 1:18), is not a literal slain lamb with literal 7 eyes and horns (Rev 5:6) surrounded by 4 literal creatures that are literally covered with eyes and literally have the face of a lion, a calf/ox, a man and an eagle. We see the same thing in the book of Daniel where we know that earthy kingdoms were metaphorically represented by beasts - but those kingdoms weren't literally those beasts. The literal reality of heaven and all that is associated with it is so far beyond anything we have on this fallen planet and beyond anything that we are even remotely familiar with. So, because of our severe limitations, God has to use concepts and images that humans are somewhat familiar with as a starting point in order to try and help us begin to understand realities that are so far beyond our awareness. And even doing this, bible writers still struggled to understand what they were seeing and hearing and what it meant (eg Daniel 12:8-9). Yes, there absolutely is a literal heaven populated by literal beings with a literal God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. But because the details of what those literal realities are is something so far beyond our awareness and comprehension, God is focussing on assisting us to grasp a basic understanding of the nature and character of the things of heaven, not of the literal detail of the things of heaven. Jesus did exactly the same thing when trying to teach his followers - using metaphors and parables (eg Luke 13:18-20). I am happy to discuss any further concerns you have with what I am saying...

@philvdk6540 at some point I agree with you but regarding heavenly sanctuary the bible tells us the earthy sanctuary was a copy of a heavenly one,the real one,the original, so the items in the earthy sanctuary were copies of the originals in the original sanctuary in heaven, and john saw them in heaven before God,,this is literal like those creatures surrounding the throne of God
