I absolutely love your videos and I plan on watching everyone of them before I die! (smile). I am a German Shorthaired Pointer owner for the past 20+ years and I agree with everything you say about the GSP. It's heartbreaking when a good GSP gets in the wrong hands because he is a beautiful dog. I just lost the four legged love of my life, Big Jake, to infiltrative lipomas. He was with me 24/7 from seven weeks to 10 years. I'll never get over that awesome dog. If I was younger I would get another one but GSPs are not for arthritic women. YOU ARE AN AWESOME trainer. The world would be a better place if you could train every day. I also like the way you think.....

Stonnie, where I live here in Southern Ohio is a lot like there in Kentucky. What do you use for tick control on the puppies and dogs. That are really bad here. I love watching you work with these “fine animals”. I hope to get in contact with you in August 2021. When I get my Labrador pup. Thanks for all the great adventures.

I like watching dogs have fun being dogs. That I never knew my dog at that age and that I can watch dogs that could have looked like him and doing goofy stuff that could have been him adds to the enjoyment. That chocolate pup "helping" reminds me so much of how my buddy is now. He helps me do honey-do tasks. It takes longer but, is far more fun

Hey Stonnie thanks for the treat of a video, appreciate it so much. Switching up the course makes it look really good. I was wondering if you chose the blue/yellow theme on the course at random or because of dog sight? I was also wondering what you do for flea/pest control after you go on a puppy/adolescent sized adventure. I'm not sure if you have Henry and Mr. No Name live with you in the house but since a lot of people do, I was wondering what your cleaning procedure is after a long day of training/work?

Another good video!!!❤️ I’m wondering if you could do a video on what to look for in a boarding kennel? I usually take my dog with me, but once in awhile I need to board her and I always feel so guilty about it. I don’t use a kennel for her at home because she does really well alone in the house...so I imagine she doesn’t like being caged at the boarding kennel.🤷♀️

I would like your review of their genetic make up for training and supervision if possible. Specifically when it comes to water comfort. I'd like to have a good water dog and how best expose her to that without making it negative.

I have a now very old lurcher who's 1/4 gwp, and I blame that 1/4 on his habit of disappearing, only the other 3/4 of his ancestry was a mix of greyhound and whippet so 1 second he was by your side, you'd take you eye off him for a second and next thing he's 500m metres away hunting up some scent or other.

How I wish I had your videos when I got my 1st dog. He was Lab cross springer spaniel/german short-haired pointer and should of been worked like some of his siblings were as gun dogs although when I wanted a dog who happily spent all day out walking in the country with he was definitely the right dog but his energy level very rarely dropped under a kid on a major sugar rush while being told it was both Xmas and his birthday at the same time. Except when I'd been doing agility with him which he loved and playing hide and seek with toys around the house, garden, fields and Moor. Although the breaks came out very quick if water was involved 😂

If you have a dog to train who is pulling in leash at first when it comes there, does the pulling automatically start reducing and eventually stop when you're training the dog like that? Or are you doing some specific exercises to stop the pulling?
@victoriastokes12285 жыл бұрын
Would LOVE to know!
@JimiInTheJungle4 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment, but most dogs only pull when they have lots of energy built up or they're trying to get to something (like their favorite pooping spot) so naturally, as you start working thr dog, they burn off energy and become much easier on leash. You then reinforce their calmness with training+reward and they gradually learn to be calm on leash

When is it safe to take a young pup to places where other dogs frequent?
@compa49295 жыл бұрын
You should wait until they have had all their vaccinations and boosters. Typically that is at 16wks. I wouldn't take a puppy to a heavily dog frequented area until then.

Not sure what he uses but I strongly suggest liver cake. In fact I suggest a combination of treats. Unseasoned jerky, liver cake, regular kibble. The easy commands the lower the reward.
@Davena5 жыл бұрын
@@memeguyTM Thank you for the tip! I currently use Beef Lung and switch it up a bit too. I'm not familiar with liver cake. Is it dehydrated liver? Or a does it come in a chub type roll?
@memeguyTM5 жыл бұрын
@@Davena I make the liver cake myself using the recipe found here www.hearingdogs.org.uk/training-our-puppies/dog-treat-recipes/liver-cake/. The only thing that I can add is that you make sure to freeze the liver cake once made so that you can use it for a few weeks. When I train my dog in high distraction environments like a park I always keep 2 types of treats. One will be regular ready made treats like Royal caninlow calorie treats(educ nutritional support), the other treat will be something of high value like liver cake or unflavoured jerky. I reward my dog the high value treat only when he does something deserving of it like seeing another dog and not lunging or pulling but instead he looks at me. When I train him at home I use regular kibble Also something HUGELY important and I have made this mistake so hopefully it helps someone reading this. The treat is a TREAT. Make sure that you reward your dog as little as possible with a treat so that it does not lose value. And make sure to cut your treats into extremely tiny pieces so that the dog basically licks it and wants more. It should not be a chewable size. You should also reward your dog more with verbal and gentle petting.

Love these videos... And I confess I copied Uncle Stonnie's secret whistle-signal. Uh-oh. So, Stonnie, if you want to sue me for trademark infringement, now's the time: Portugal has heard that whistle-sound quite often by now, and seen it followed by 2 big dogs running back to me. My only defense would be that MY whistle is neon pink. So, technically, it's not quite the same :-)
