We're selecting our lab puppy from 4 available males on December 14th. Dad is a white English and mom is a yellow British field type. Our other lab passed at Christmas 2022 (American chocolate female) and its been 14 years since I've had a puppy. Any tips on puppy picking or advice for the first days?

Reports that have been hidden and buried are starting to surface about digs turning aggressive after being given flea and tick meds, such as simparico....if the dog has a specific gene it can cause aggression or kill the dog b/c its poison. Any dog can turn. We had a 200 lb English master we loved dearly despite him mauling us. We lived in prison b/c no one could help us b/c we didn't have enough $$$$! Even our local animal control couldn't help us b/c he was so big. We tired everything we could - meds, behaviorist, trainers, training, etc.....they think he had a brain tumor. The last attack he tried to kill my 6'+ husband and got him down in the ground Gor trying to pet him and say good morning. An animal is always an animal first.

Update after having female lagotto for one year: she really easily keeps up with my routine of having short early walk, be calm for 7-8 hours and then have longer walk. I am constantly shocked by stamina and endurance that this breed has (she did 25km (~16 miles) hike like its nothing :D ). She is calm inside, very good with friends that comes over. Sometimes she is alone for 5-6 hours without issues. Loves to swim and dig and if I don't plan to unleash her then I avoid areas around river. She still has issues with new spaces such as when we travel she need time to adjust so first night is always with a bit less sleep. Sometimes we still have issues of putting leash back as she wants to run and play way more. So she does good on recall but comes next to me but if I want to put leash she moves. On the hikes her recalls are amazing. She can be vocal occasionally when she wants something specific but not barking etc, sometimes I even forget she is inside the house somewhere :D If we pack her things she can be anxious, because she doesn't know where are we going, if we are going to leave at parents place for a day or two, or if we are going on trip with her together. This is going better over time but still showing this behaviour. This is dog for cities without doubt, but since they can be afraid easily its better to have a lagotto if you plan to spend time outdoors as much as possible because thats where they shine.

It seems there’s an epidemic now of dog mauling, ever read the book Zoo? It was pheromones.. our pheromones have been changed and that has affected the animals. Just a thought.

Not boring at all, there's so much subtle information if one pays attention. See how that works? You want knowledge or a skill? It's not free, you have to *pay* attention and *spend* time doing and practicing.

I really enjoyed this video and to be honest I don’t think there’s any other video out there like this. You did not just bash anyone. You actually asked several key components of what could’ve happened, and I love that you also brought into play the breeding of the dog, so many people in the dog community training community they believe genetics have nothing or very very little of anything to do with how dog behaves which is fatherless from the truth. Breeds genetics are unique to those genetics so it makes each breed unique. Have a question about the video that the guy, was it a Catahoula was it some Catahoula look like dog? A lot of people try to pass off Catahoula, but they just have bully breed mixes that have somewhat of the same body, but similar color. The fact that the dog physically killed an older person or an individual altogether lead me to believe that that definitely has genetics, causing this issue even most bread German shepherds not going to kill someone they simply lack the natural grit tenacity to fully kill a human being that is real training comes to enhance the natural abilities.

We had a CKCS as a family dog when I was younger, neither of my parents had had dogs before, and he was perfect as a first dog. Not hard to train, could walk quite long distances happily but also satisfied by a walk round the block. Not completely without drive- ours did bolt off after a deer once and just loved to be nose down. Small, easy to move around and not really overly needy or clingy but happy to cuddle too. Not enough dog for me now but really good for a family in my opinion. Maybe in my old age? loved seeing all of you down in the creek- happy days!

I am a big fan of Coon Hounds in general. The comments about how they were purpose bred, etc. All breeds were bred with a specific mission in mind. I'm a fan of these AMERICAN COONHOUNDS. Everybody has such an infatuation with Irish Setters, German Shepards, Russian Wolfhounds, English Setters, French Poodles, and I could go on, but here we are talking about quintessential Domestic Breeds, Walker Hounds, Redbones and Black and Tans. I owned a perfect pet, a Redbone died at 16. Currently, I have a Bluetick female. She's 5 years old, and she can be a loudmouth, at times, but she's a great companion, as I live alone, I'm a widower and she is definitely my buddy, sleeps on her corner of the bed, and looks forward to "going to bed". I think it's unfair to single out Coon Hounds and warn how they were bred for a purpose. Unless you have a Heinz 57 mixed breed, they all were bred for a specific purpose. We had a "French" Poodle when the kids were young, great family dog and "Birdy" as hell! My Redbone, one time chased off 3 coyotes, intent on kicking their butt if I had not screamed at her. But hounds are protective and always friendly. IDK? They are just good dogs. Around here, in SoCal, they are unknown but people are always curious and the most common remark I hear is; "She's Beautiful!" I've only had two people correctly I.D. the breed, but they all know she's something; MUST be some type of purebred? And at the dog park, they are always curious, she get's a lot of fans, way more looks and attention than any of the "exotics". Not kidding! & she runs like a Grayhound.

I am a groomer and the structure of any doodle is hit or miss with any mixed breed. They are one of the worst dogs to groom, they do a very similar stompy thing when you’re trying to get the legs done. You are much better off getting a well bred poodle and getting the doodle haircut.

Oh my god this video just popped up out of nowhere and after 10 minutes I already love this guy. "We fought a whole revolution and some people are obessesed with the English stuff". Also the part where he says that the "English lab" (sorry) is not that athletic and has trouble with heat disipation is so true. I finally understand why my lab, which I thought was built to run long distances, almost colapses when I walked her for 30 minutes in the hot weather of Argentina. The problem is that she didn´t show signs of exhaustion while walking. But I thought she was going to puppy heaven when we got home and she needed 30 minutes to regain her normal breathing. I don`t like dogs in general since I'm a cat person but I just love labradors. Just as he says, they are beautiful, sweet and well behaved. They are like a mixture of a fluffy cat and a teddy bear.

I'm a retired disabled U.S. Marine on his second English Labrador Retriever as my service dog. I attend a 4-month course with Veterans K-9 Solutions. The breed is an excellent Velcro dog. Trevor a black Lab is 11 years old, 28" at the shoulders, and weighs 125 lbs. Trevor was matched to me when he was 6 months old. I previously owned a chocolate Lab which I named Dutch, which was 25" at the shoulders and weighing 80 lbs. What the heck are these breeders in the south (Dixieland) doing super-size this breed???

Solid built looks a little out of shape reminds me of a female I had lived to almost 13 exact same built ears an all, my pups get started out following me through the woods crossing small branches climbing over dead trees an just being a dog before long they can really move from all the natural obstacles, I also work on just basic commands sit, down , come, heel an a few others have owned 4 generations been very pleased they have been around grandkids an have been very watchful staying close by .

I've JUST rescued a working line female 5th gen pedigree livestock gardian gsd, she came to me because im known to not CARE about monetizing pups fir my own ends, IF she has a litter she will have one, and she will die of old age NEXT to one of her pups that I vow, no matter the cost or circumstances, She's VERY reactive, eyes on stalks and sees ALL things, her barking is calming down slowly, but MAN is she a stubborn hard headed wee cow occasionally 😂 still working with her, imperfectly, slowly and one thing at a time, could I be better at this? ABSOLUTELY, will I ever give up on her? Absolutely not, she was bought by idiots who NEVER trained her, never taught her anything never let her meet other humans or dogs, so I've got a job of work infront of me,, but she's WORTH the stress, she's worth looking like a yob as she barks her head off but I find me shouting "sorry, she's a rescue I've had her a matter of weeks, I didn't ruin her I'm trying to fix her" tends to garner sympathetic looks and general understanding from other dog walkers, she's not agressive that I've seen, just has ZERO dog manners, I'm looking for a senior dog who's non agressive but that will correct her over enthusiasm way faster than I ever can, but that's a risk, I need to build the trust in her and her in me, she's better off lead than on, but again, too reactive and big and barky to be left to run loose, she'll either tangle with somthing that mauls her tf or get hit by a car if I'm not careful, I taught her a silent command in 2 mins in my garden tho, just working her out, we will get there

That is the reason I'm not a fan of Belgian shepherds (or the GSD, Dutch etc.) My friend always had a Malinois or two and always talked about what a wonderful dog they are and I'm sure they are for her. I got a Belgian Malinois pup after my previous dog passed away at her urging and figured he was probably going to be like the Akitas I used to have since they are both high energy guard type dogs (though the "guard" instinct in the Akita is not based on a fear response, it's based off their hunting style/instincts, which is to track, then hold the animal, not attack or bite. The old working lines had this trait, but the modern show lines no longer have it strong enough, or at all. Unfortunately, I can no longer find working line Akitas, they're all show lines now in the US, now they behave more in the fear response). The Malinois pup was so scared of everything and he would have a "go to pieces" with every new experience. Very unlike the Akitas I had, who were very calm and confident dogs and had an "off switch" when we were chilling. I thought the pup had a timidity issue, but my friend said that's normal for the pups. I worked him through it, socializing and introducing him to all sorts of stimuli for a few months and he got less and less timid, but he was still a "scaredy dog" IMHO, having a fresh "go-to-pieces" with any brand new experience. My friend loved him and said I had an awesome dog, which I figured was something that would materialize with age and socialization. I eventually gave him to her when he was about five months old because I could no longer meet his activity demands after an accident that put me in a wheelchair for several months, then had to walk with a cane for over a year. She still says he's one of the best she has had, though if he's among the best, I'm not a fan. I did eventually get another pup, a Pyrenees mix from my friend's Pyr who decided she didn't want to be with the Pyr male they had and went on a walk about (suspected the father was Golden retriever due to her medium long golden goat and webbed toes and LOVE of water, She was actually the only solid golden pup with the characteristic "badger" marks of the Pyr, all the rest were white or white with golden head and rump spots). Now she was a super sweet, outgoing, social, happy-go-lucky dog that was confident and had no fear of anything. She was easy to train (though she did have the independent streak of the Pyr) and was able to steady me due to her strength and calmness while I was still a little slow and unsteady, then later she had the energy to keep up with the horses on my trail rides when I could get back to that again, but definitely had an off switch when we were chilling.

What do you mean about pixel compression? Is it not clear for you?
@Leverquin3 күн бұрын
@@StonnieDennis youtube compress quality of videos by chopping quality of sounds and sometimes video. it usually do with reducing quality of static things in point of view. but in your video (this video) if you notice watching in 1080p you can see like "aura" of pixels. example: 6:40 - around your hand while you pointing, 22:57 - 22:59 you can notice around your head while you are in boat. So was clear to me? instructions were pretty clear, must say loved the video :) its just observation not criticism. never stop making videos and be friend with dogs. thank you :)
