I have played the german version of those for which the app was already available. It is fantastic. No looking for numbers and potential spoilers from other entries in the book. Additionally in the german version there is the option to have the text read to you from a quite professional narrator. Just amazing!

I have to agree. With the app the game experience is improving a lot because you can concentrate on the game and listen to the narration.

Like the point-and-click games you mention it seems they might evolve into just combining everything and eventually finding the solution. Is there a mechanism to prevent just "spamming" combinations?

There are some circumstances where you might do something dumb and get punished for it. But these are rather seldom and unlikely to be triggered by random combination of items. But "spamming combinations" in point & click adventures was normally a result of getting into a dead end with no clue. And to be honest, with these games, I think this is very unlikely anyway. I agree, that they feel very much like a P&C game, but rather on a very easy difficulty. You will probably never feel in the need of doing such a thing.

I don't want to spoil myself for Monochrome Inc, but considering some phobia's I'm a bit afraid it'll at some point have to do with experimenting on humans or any other medical drama... Especially since you mentioned the "scientists are being evil" part that sounds concerning. So I think I'll stay way from that one just to be sure.

Manner of speaking. The Exit and Unlock series follow a similar escape room theme. I have enjoyed this series because the format allows the four individuals to more freely explore as individuals. The game refined the format of the two game series to make it user friendly.

I really like the 'Exit' games, but hated this. Started with Monochrome Inc and bailed super early. The writing is awful, and its just not fun imo.
