theyve worked a story line but at start it was just a picture of an old man with a crown and he got called ice king.. it was funny. but the character got trivialized for being too "stereotype" always kidnapping some princess and they gave him a back story and new life to save him by fleshing that out.

Happily, you missed a big detail. The Crown was made to fulfill a wish, which was originally to get rid of the catalyst comet, but Gunter had wished to be like Evergreen. Evergreen was an ice elemental, he had a long nose and feathers. And bird legs. He was basically a bird. Simon has a large beard around him and a long nose, because that's what evergreen had. Whoever wears the crown basically turns into a bad cosplay of Evergreen with powers that don't match up to what Evergreen's powers were.

That's not really a big detail (the whole crown forcing it's wearers to look more like Urgence thing, I mean). He did mention the thing about the powers, though, how they don't match up to what Evergreen's powers actually were (10:02). Remember, the crown granted Gunther's wish, which was to be like Evergreen, but he didn't really have a firm grasp of what Evergreen's powers actually were. He just knew Evergreen was really good at ice-magic.

An interesting part i feel is that, ultimately, SOME of simon's personality is present. He is drawn to marcelinle because of that emotional connection. But his memories and primray persona are missing..... Actually it is intersting. He does care for people, even as he seeks thep rincesses, but at the same time at times mistreats them. Likely an effect of his own personality and gunter's vision of evergreen...... The only person he has not harmed in all of the mushroom kingdom, was marceline.

I personally have a theory that each wearer of the crown added a component of "the ice king". The first wearer, Gunther, added the ice powers, as well as the bossing around of someone named Gunther. Over the years, as people wore the crown, components were added, until it was sold to Simon. Simon put it on as a joke, and since he was doing it for Betty, loved Betty dearly, and saw her as his "princess", that component was added to the crown, thus explaining his overwhelming desire to be loved, as it is the most recent component, added by the current wearer. Now that Simon has been in control of the crown for so long, and that he has been unloved for so long, the crown AI that is Ice King is becoming more desperate to fulfill Simon's unintended wish. And, with every passing day, the crown is beginning to look for a replacement to the happiness he had with Betty, and due to the fact that he is starting to settle for simply having friends, it seems the AI has nearly given up.

Evergreen made the crown. The crown grants a wish. Gunther wished to be "like King Evergreen" and like Evergreen he became. Gunther's image of Evergreen was a man with a big white beard, a really long nose and pale blue skin, who could had amazing ice powers (and far more, but not to Gunther's knowledge). So, the wearer of the crown then becomes like Evergreen in appearance and power and is possessed by Gunther to allow for his wish to be fulfilled. This also explains why the wearer of the crown longs for companions named 'Gunther', because now as Evergreen-like he would long for a companion named 'Gunther'. The reason why Ice King chases princesses is because Simon Petrikov is still in there fighting for control, and so some of his personality is expressed and his desires prevailed; he called his fiancé "princess" and his love for "princess" is so strong Ice King perpetually chases people of not necessarily the same pet name, but the title. The reason Ice King loves Marceline and follows her wherever she moves to without even having any recollection of how he knows her is because Simon Petrikov is inside seeking her out. That's my view on it anyways :)

Ice king to me seems like a depiction of Alzheimer’s that all of us missed. He fell sick and had to use the crown to survive, but it drove him crazy. And he went crazy over time unable to remember old things and saying silly stuff. It’s truly sad and it’s shown with Marciline that she knew him and was raised by him, but he doesn’t even remember when she tries to make him recall her.

I'll be honest... the substory of Petrikov and Marceline was 11/10 up until the episode where they go inside his crown. I really felt like Simon was the extremely opposing "Serious" aspect of the show, and when it first showed the vlogs of him way towards the start in the show it was so unusual and shocking but then they made the story silly with the dinosaur guy and everything.

Something I love about the ice King is that despite the fact he has no memories allegedly he does certain things giving away that he still has some recollection or the very least a understanding. After the war Simon practically raised Marceline like a daughter so he was deeply attached to herso even in his deranged mind he is drawn to Marceline because deep down he knows he is somehow connected to her whether it's instinct or some semblance of Simon still trying to show itself. Ice King also remembers the love of his life Betty even if he doesn't directly remember her name or who she was he remembers the feelings and how he called her princess. the first time we meet ice King he has an obsession with princesses making it seem like "oh he's just a creepy old pervert who wants a princess" then you find out it's because he's trying to somehow get a piece of his pastback in a way all he knows is that he loves princesses he doesn't realize that it's because he had a fiance but the point still stands

I have a theory that Finn is actually the next Ice elemental and the only reason he isn't the ice elemental is because the old ice elemental is still alive. You may argue that Ice king is the ice elemental because of his powers and he is the "king of cool" but look at the fire kingdom, they have fire powers yet they can't all be the fire elemental at once. I heard a theory that the reason they have fire powers is because of jewels that grant them these powers, therefore we could say the Ice king isn't the next elemental he just has the crown. Now, there are two reasons I believe finn may be the next Ice elemental. 1,If you haven't noticed; all the catalyst comets are a colour of the 4 elements, candy, fire, ice and slime. Finn was the blue/ice comet. The second reason is in the parallel universe Finn dons the crown and becomes the ice king, this may be a hint to finn being the ice elemental. Like how every other parallel version of Finn has his arm cut off which were all hinting that Finn will lose his arm. (Sorry for bad grammar and stuff, I just wrote down my random thoughts) But seriously, as cool as it sounds Finn would NEVER be the Ice elemental. It would be too much of a change to his character and even if he did become the ice elemental there would be a lot of backlash from the community and they would have some stupid reversion like in breezy.

The comet theory doesn't really work out since the Green Lich comet does not represent slime (the lich does not have much to do with slime at all and he's also not the slime elemental despite existing before slime princess). Fin doesn't have the traits to be the next ice elemental anyway. As seen in urgences and patiences the ice element tends to be arrogant in their abilities.

I think something interesting to note is that while the empress was able to control Simon at one point, she wasn't able to when she was revived and went after him. My theory is that her first encounter with him happened when Simon was still able to hold onto some strands of his sanity and hadn't completely transformed. By the time the empress returns, Ice King's mind is so warped that he's beyond controlling. The same can be seen when Betty tries to use her magic to fix him but is unsuccessful.

When he says the line: “I made [the crown] with magic I stole,” it directly indicates the past of the crown. When we see the story of the Elementals and the old Ice Elemental, we see how he stole powers from the other elementals to create the crown. He tries to convince the other elementals to aide it’s creation but when they say no, he freezes them and does it anyway. Gunter (real gunter) wishes to become more like the Ice Dude, and so the crown, making him become the man who stole the crown, he then thinks he stole it. And so on until the crown reaches ice king.

Theory*** The crown represents money/greed? Tell me what you think. There are too many sources to type all my ideas towards this, but the general concept is that money blinds people towards what is important (ice king's want of love), money can protect/keep us safe (sort of how the crown keeps him alive/kept him alive from the mushroom wars. Money can completely change a person, but deep down the person is still the same (how ice king was a silly loving guys, now his mind is frozen by the crown/money yet still has these wants of his past self). Lastly, money promises power, the crow likewise promises the user of power.

The one fault I can find in the greed theory is that it is shown (or heavily implied, at least) that one of the previous owners of the crown was Santa Claus. Greed does not seem to really fit with a character who's basic function is to give things away. Though the money thing might still work (anyone who can give away infinite amounts of toys is presumably rich beyond all belief.)

The crown itself is not infused with ice magic. The crown grants a wish. A wish of the first bearer’s greatest desire. The first bearer was the dinosaur, Gunter, whose greatest desire was to be his master, the ice wizard/elemental, Evergreen. It’s why when Orgalorg, or Gunter the penguin became an odd lookalike of Evergreen.

I think he is a human Impersonation of Russia. Cold, Possesive, cartoonishly villanous, devious, but deep down only wants the love of others but is unable to because of it's forceful possesive nature often hurting others making them afraid. The Crown represents Power. the power of ice, winter, snow, physical might, but also brittle frailty and easy defeats when the first line of defence is broken but always recovering after numerous falls.

Evergreen made the crown. The crown grants a wish. Gunther wears the crown and wished to be "like King Evergreen", and *like* King Evergreen he became. Gunther's image of Evergreen was a man with a big white beard, a really long nose and pale blue skin, who could conjure amazing ice powers (and far more, but not to Gunther's knowledge). So, the wearer of the crown then becomes like Evergreen in appearance and power and is possessed by Gunther to allow for his wish to be fulfilled. This also explains why the wearer of the crown longs for companions named 'Gunther', because now Evergreen-like Gunther would long for a companion of the same name as Evergreen's - "Gunther". The reason why Ice King chases princesses is because Simon Petrikov is still in there fighting for control, and so some of his personality is expressed and his desires prevailed; he called his fiancé "princess" and his love for "princess" is so strong Ice King perpetually chases people of not necessarily the same pet name, but the title. The reason Ice King loves Marceline and follows her wherever she moves to without even having any recollection of how he knows her is because Simon Petrikov is inside seeking her out. That's my view on it anyways :)
