Really cool and functional mod. I suggest you heat shrink the cut cable ends on the lower tie ins. That cut cable can be really sharp. Sides it will dress the job up nicely. Enjoy the vids so keep up the good work.

Thank you! Thank you for the suggestion, since this video we have wrapped the ends in a very heavy duty Gaffer's tape that we use in the film industry. The heat shrink is a great idea also!

Hey Thanks for posting this - we are going to try this on our toy hauler and we ordered all the parts from your link but the 3mm cable clamps are way too small for the 5/16 cable doubled. And the D Rings they sent were huge! much larger than in the video - What is the proper size cable clamps? Thanks for clearing this up
@AdventureEndeavor3 жыл бұрын
Hey that's strange! It might be easier to go to home depot for the clamps to make sure they are the correct size. Unfortunately I don't have the rig with he to measure.

Great video... What lenght and size of the grade 8 bolts used for the D ring?
@AdventureEndeavor4 жыл бұрын
Let me check when we get back to our trailer. Roughly 2.5 inches long and 9/16. But you should measure all trailers will be different and it also depends on what D rings you use as well.
@CharlesButler3 жыл бұрын
Great video, just a quick question I am looking to do the same for my trailer, but I want to make it more sturdy. Can I install 2 stabilizer jacks one on each side so that when I pull it down it's level and won't be bouncing up and down? I want to use my back ramp door as a porch.
@AdventureEndeavor3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you should be able to do that. I would just keep in mind to through bolt everything and use aluminum plates on BOTH sides. The fiberglass is not that strong. Thanks for watching.

Curious question, how does the ramp door assist work on your trailer? Generally there is a torsion spring mounted on the ceiling of the trailer right by the ramp door opening. Thanks.

We have a spring at the bottom near the hinges, it dosn't really do anything to be honest.

Hey glad you liked it. Our trailer came with the door it's a toy hauler, we just added the cables. Hope this helps.
@tozlakes3 жыл бұрын
What happen to the cables when the door is closed? How about the D rings on the door itself, do they clear the sealing area and allow the door to fully close as My Attitude would not allow the D rings to be located in that location without interferance of the seal and closing surface.
@AdventureEndeavor3 жыл бұрын
The cables just hang on the inside, everything seals up just fine. I'm sure rigs are made differently.

Another idea for the ends would be to swedge the loops. That's what I will be doing to avoid using those clamps. I think that if your hardware store sells the cable, they have the swedge tool also. I like your thought on the turnbuckle too. Anyway thanks for sharing this video! I love DIY stuff!
