Oh my stars. How my heart aches. When you went through Wickenburg and I saw how the city has changed I shed a silent tear. All the beauty that is Wickenburg is gone. My mama used to take us kids there when we were younger and we would walk through the shops and learn the story of Wickenburg. I understand the need for progress but pardon me if I don't care for it when it destroys some place so wonderful. The desert is gorgeous and I miss it terribly. Thank you for the ride friend :D Oh the stories i could tell you about downtown Phoenix. Thank you once again for the memories. :D

I've been to Las Vegas so many times I've lost count. The trek through Henderson and Boulder Dam was the thing back in the day. For a Phoenician, it’s 6 ½ hours driving; 13 all together is a lot of driving but I like the Desert Beauty. Laughlin has mostly taken my money in recent decades, as I get a similar effect as Vegas but without the gouging and hustle.

Did this drive back in December except went further south from Phoenix. After a few days continued even further south! Anyone wanting to do this drive, pro tip: fill up in LV, dont pump gas at the stations in the desert. The cost per gallon is 50% higher.

You can do the return trip by night, the view of the night sky in the desert is incredible. No light pollution so its a ceiling of stars ...
@swithinbarclay47973 ай бұрын
I GENERALLY, would NOT recommend it, but with the addition of a very FULL moon, one could be tempted to douse their headlights! As a skier, I'd be tempted to try a resort that already offers night skiing, where they likewise might be tempted to douse their slope lights, during full moons, under CLOUDLESS night skies. The snow ought then, to throw off plenty of glow to guide you down the hill.

It's difficult to tell when The Desert changes, from Mojave to Sonora, but my indicator was the change from Joshua Trees to Saguaros, which started about 7 miles outside of Wickieup. Then there was this mixture of JT's and S's, that went on for some miles more. Around Palm Springs, Saguaros are commonly used as landscape/garden ornamentals, so, those could be highly confusing to folks not educated to the finer points of desert life.
@AdventureEveryDay3 ай бұрын
That's definitely right. There are areas that have Joshua Trees with Saguaros right next to them as the Mojave transitions to the Sonoran, it's very cool to see.

Early to mid spring is when you would get that. This was late summer early fall. It got really hot this year and very little rain. Desert insects are long done at this time of year. As there hasn’t been anything alive to nourish them for weeks.

Too much resemblance of Vegas Free ways with our South Africa freeways the N1 specifically. Straight, smooth and wide. Overall Vegas is squeaky clean, not too much vegeation around but lots of concrete which is understandable under those conditions.

Highways, roads such as these are certainly NOT for everyone. I'm quite excited, every time I traverse the 60-odd mile section of I-80 that goes almost like a rifle shot into Wendover, from the East, across the DAZZLING white flats of The Great Salt Desert. Perhaps, you, might go "salt blind", from those??
