This is an amazing little video!!! I can't tell you how many times I visited that park! My aunt took my sister and I there at least twice when it was Story Book Park and and again, when it became Adventure Land! It was also a destination one of the first times I got my mom's car when I was 16. My buddy and I went to Adventure Land and had a blast! Many of my "first dates" were taken there as well! One price...all the rides you wanted. It was no "Six Flags," but it was a lot of fun!!! (I had such a crush on Cinderella when I was 5 at Story Book Park!) I can't believe this video was here!!! I just had a thought that I would type in Adventure Land to see if anything popped up!!! I'm so happy it did!!! I can't wait to show my kids and grandkids...and maybe send a text to my sister with a link! :) Thank you so much!!!

I remember from 60s a fire truck that you rode in around a pond and then a fire would start in middle of pond and we all had fire hoses to spray water on fire? Same park, area seems right.

I also remember that giant head with a fan built into the mouth. It usually popped up in the newspaper ads. It sticks in my mind because on one visit, my mom got sick on the Tilt-a-Whirl and threw up right next to the giant head.

Yes, this is a great video. I remember Adventure land well. And visited it when it was in its early life as Story Book village. My last visit there was in 1976. It was showing its age at that time. When Marriott's Great America opened, I guess that spelled the end. I ended up working in Addison in the Industrial park for over 30 years, so Addison is kind of my second home town. I will have to visit your museum some day.

Us kids would excitedly look forward to this every summer from northwest suburbs. Remember Golf Rd & 53 was just a stop light in the middle of miles of farm fields in days before Woodfield. Later they bussed in misbehaved 'church groups' from south side that scared everyone else away. People fled to better-managed, cleaner, and more expensive Great America instead.

Outside Agitators? I wonder, 'do they favor that man who use to live in the White House?'

I went only once. Must of been 76 or 77. I was only 10 or 11. Went with my friend and my older sister and her friend. We split up. Big mistake. The bussed in city kids. It was about 97% black. We were a speck of salt in a sea of pepper. A large black guy approached me in the funhouse and was threatening me. As a 10 or 11 yr old white girl this was frightening. He didn't bother my friend, he just took a dislike to me for some reason. We finally saw a white family and kind of latched on to them staying right by them til I found my sister and we got the hell out of there. Remember begging Mom please can we go. My sister was 16 and had license. Since it was in a not too far off suburb we had no idea by this time they were bringing in city kids and it was all black. That guy threatening and bullying me just made the trip dreadful. I was scared walking around the place.

We went when I was probably around 3 or 4 years old. I have pictures of us driving the cars on the "highway" which I loved since I didn't like fast or spinning rides. I recall being stuck on the very top of the ferris wheel with my aunt and cousin while crying "when are we getting down?" I also remember some of the storybook characters as well as a water ride where we rode in boats. There was a small "cabin" in the middle of the "lake" and we had water guns built into the boats. The cabin would burst into flames and we would "shoot" the fire out with our water guns.

We took our bikes there from Glen Ellyn around 1965 and I remember as a 14 year old, being surprised that you could walk into the little miniature houses that were furnished, etc. and there didn't seem to be any vandalism, which today would be rampant.

I went there once on August 16th, 1969. It was a bus trip sponsored by my church. I took my first girlfriend Lori, and we had a super time. I will never forget that time in my life. On the bus ride back, we "made out" almost all the way home, to the chagrin of out chaperones. I still think of her and that trip all the time. It was the best time in my life.

There is an office building on the western part of the property but if you look east of office building you may just be able to find some foundations of the park.

I remember you could ger a free box of popcorn for every member of your party with one of those ads from the TV guides. The popcorn was not of the highest quality but it didn't matter, we were kids and it was free lol.

Our 8th grade "Class Graduation Trip" was to Adventureland in 1977. I did not know that was the last summer for it. I remember my parents gave me $5 (rich by the kid standards of 1977) and told me to spend it wisely on lunch and snacks for the long day. I blew it all on the first game of chance as I entered the park with my classmates, where a cute "older woman" of perhaps 17 or 18 enticed this 12-year-old boy into playing her game. That's when I learned of the "Feminine Wiles". Thankfully, a few kids shared their lunch with me.

I lived a few miles down the road from Adventure Land in Roselle, it was a hangout for us. Many of my friends had summer jobs there in the early 1970s. I worked a summer for MTC company that built the train, we did maintenance and repair on the engine and cars. I was going to automotive trade school at the time. I remember when they closed down there were lots of rumors and reasons, I remember the problems from outside agitators and I remember the good times. I was not there for the auction but I know some of the rides went local, was back to the old spot a year ago and found some train track still there, bent up. I have some of the rail. The land is mostly built on now but still some stuff to find. Nice Video

Outside, 'Agitators.'? Let me guess my friend? They favor that man who use to live in the white house past tense? Am I warm?

There were people of all kinds causing problems from the local area and out of town . Some were gangs that no one of any race is ever proud of. Then there were the politicians and others who just wanted to close it down. With all due respect, do not put words in my mouth. My Friend.

Aha! Outside agitators? Man stop playing! You see the ass holes on the daily to nightly news every day and the agitators resemble each other and dam! Even I do or they me! But that's about all I have in common with their ass's. And I avoid them may I have to pay more or drive further! I get what you people are saying and why! These days! You guys need to start baring arms because they'll never stop! They'll have to be enabled to shot dead! Now you hearing this from a person born black and older than that punk ass Obama!

Was born in 1961, lived in Cary Illinois our family went there twice, once I was very young and the place was awesome, had a great time, wanted to drive the cars so bad but I was too young. We went back one more time, hard to tell what year but the place was close to dead. all the rides were shut down, grass was growing in the cracks in the sidewalks, you could tell it was about to close up. Was really sad.
@animalyze71207 жыл бұрын
Was there the year before it closed at age 5 lol. Only thing I remember vividly for some oddball reason is that storybook Shoe with the slide. If I recall that very Shoe resided at Santa's village before it was closed down as I do remember that same slide there.

joe ferguson He said nothing about race, he did use the term gehtto dwellers, which has to do with poor character, not the color of skin. The fact is that people of poor character were being bussed to the park and were causing problems, such as theft and violence and that caused people to stop going. The same thing happened to Riverview.

I rode the same coaster (Super Italian Bobs) a couple of years ago in Florida. It was relocated many times (last at Daytona Beach, under the name "Sand Blaster"). A year ago, this coasters' train derailed with riders aboard. Riders were hospitalized, but thank God no one died. It's still there in Daytona not in operation; It most certainly will not reopen again. rcdb.com/2193.htm www.cbsnews.com/news/daytona-beach-boardwalk-roller-coaster-derailment-sand-blaster-spotty-record/
