I think you and I are extremely likeminded people. I took a skoolie and rv for my adventures even though I have always been near the ocean and dreaming of sailing.... owning a sailboat always felt like the "rich person" thing...and I never have had much money. Now though at 35 i am starting from nothing and trying to get myself into a sailboat, learn to sail, and then head off. I am very hands-on and have done all my conversion and repairs myself. Keep up the awesome videos. I hope to see you out there one day.

How often do you haul out to do regular maintenance/upkeep? Where do you prefer to do it and how much does it cost you? I just bought our first sailboat in San Fran. We live in Oregon. We need to get it hauled out which is 1200, in, out and cleaned. Our boat is 56 foot. We need to replace all the through hills and valves that were neglected. 16 the shop quoted 1500 each, well do them ourselves for a few hundred each. We need to fix and sort out the electrical and batteries, chargers,.....repair shop wants 16-20k. We can do it for 6. Then paint at 300 a gallon. Sails at 4-6 k each. Fortunately we have 8 good sails...a lot of work just to get it to our area, but we're excited....then finally off on our adventure.

congratulation ! lot's to like and rejoice ! There are 2 dynamics in your and other cruiser lifestyles ,that are sorrowful : 1. environment pollution : lot's of the products used by cruisers are highly toxic ,especially DIY marinas are producing so many toxic substances ,consequently washed into the sea ,without proper management for trash and substances used ,for instance antifouling . cruisers want to live in environment beauty ,but they still have not organized themselves to protect environment as much as possible . it is an easy discipline ,to refrain from using plastic bags in grocery shopping ,only buying what fits in ones own bags ,but one can see again and again ,cruisers using plastic bags and dumping plastic trash ,even in places ,where it is highly unlikely ,that proper trash management is observed . new 'plastic boats 'are build and bought continuously ,but there is still no end solution for this material and it seems ,that even 'plastic' boat owners do not care . so much more could and should be actively researched and done . for instance cruisers organizing themselves ,to research and activate better trash policies for coastal and island regions and marinas ,instead of just dumping more trash there . 2 . killing sentient beings is a serious matter, but cruisers depict in their videos and photos only joy ,when catching aquatic animals for their food and hunting enjoyment . this can and should be changed ,by inserting a respectful recognition of the life taken and the seriousness of the act .

True, all true, KeyWeiss harnessing wind energy to navigate the globe, 1000’s of years before a narcissistic United States environmentalists could type on her plastic cell phone made in sweatshops, or thousands of years before she was even born is IMMORAL!! Taking only what you can eat, making the kill your self, and risking your life to do it, also immoral and recycling the remains for the other ocean life to eat, till nothing left remains, as opposed to hiring butchers to kill for you, and paying grocery stores who light their stores and keep their refrigerators cold with coal and oil fueled electricity, and paying employees to get to work who drive oil fueled and plastic built automobiles, and paying gas fueled garbage trucks, to bring the leftovers to a landfill, also, immoral. Shame shame Dan Shame shame!! Why don’t you have sturdier plastic bags that use 100xs the plastic, or hand sewn cotton bags with plastic logos, made by sweatshops like KeyWeiss does? Shame on you. KeyWeiss, I think you can’t tell, but we’re actually crying behind our goggles. You probably mistook our tears for the ocean. That’s our tears we’re swimming in. It’s shameful to hand carve a weapon that doesn’t use any lead or combustion, and kill your food by hand. I’m with KeyWeiss! She’s way more moral for shopping at grocery stores that I’m sure shes never driven an internal combustion car to, and for paying other people to kill for her, so she can survive Key Weiss, you’re so Wise!! 😆😆😆

I know right?! Excellent point RVMototravel! Excellent point! I’m with you. That sailboat is crazy expensive compared to the free gas RV’s use, the free tires and free oil changes, the free insurance and free RV parks, the free fast food. Roadkill is way tastier than fresh seafood. I’m with you RVMoto. 100% I’m gonna take your advice, because RV’s hold their value way longer than an old sailboat. And when RV’s run out of gas I guess we we can just roll down the nearest hill, way smarter than sails Or we could we could make a sign asking for money from our fellow road travelers!!! 😃 they’ll invite us in their cars and share beautiful evenings staring at the highway. Way better than an ocean sunset! Way better! Smart RV Moto, very smart Where can I find an 84’ RV these days? I’m dropping all my sailboat plans, and forgetting what I just saw on Dans channel and getting an ‘84 Recreational Vehicle so I can park in a dark alley, or a Walmart parking lot! That’s living! Dan, you messed up getting a sailboat. Why didn’t you ask RV Moto for his opinion first!? Inviting women standing in parking lots to sleep in your RV is way smarter than women in bikinis traveling the world with you. Dan you just wasted all those days on tropical islands with beautiful women and great friends for nothing! What a fool! RV Moto is a genius. 😆
