This is my first Podcast with one of my mentors Omaha John one of the greatest road players of all time.
We share stories and John tells how he got started playing pool and how he used to jump on a bus from Omaha and travel to California at the age of 16. We also talk about what made the gambling days so good and the rules we all played that that made the game more entertaining, exciting and strategic.
For more of my techniques, systems and pro level fundaments to reach your full potential join me at masteringpocke...

I gotta say CJ, this is the BEST idea anyone has come up with. A podcast talking to the old road players, hustlers and pros of the past and present. I hope it grabs hold and takes off cause I’m hooked. Thx for the half hour of enjoyment! It was an awesome show

I could listen to this stuff all day long. Those of us old enough being around during that time hanging out in pool halls all fantasizing we were road players. The great players of that time all seemed bigger than life. You know what? They still do! Great idea. Looking forward to your next podcast.

Thank you so much CJ. My friend texted me and showed me that this video was posted. And if I have it right this is your first episode of your podcast. Could not have been a better person to come on there than John. I've been friends with John for going on 50 years. I was supposed to go up there last month to see John and work on my game. Unfortunately some things came up which made it financially irresponsible for me to leave. So I have some money put back and this coming spring I will indeed make it to Omaha to see my old friend. Anybody that knows me knows that John is my very favorite player who's ever lived. I was good friends with Jimmy Reid and a few other notable players. But John always has been my favorite player. Not only was John an incredible player but he's a damn good man as well. The defining characteristic to me for John is he is a Class Act. I reckon probably tomorrow I'll give John a call. Hope meet you as well someday. Once again thank you for bringing John on. Have a great day CJ. Namaste.

I played John at the Tropicana Florence/Battle tournament 79. Beat Larry Hubbard first match. Then I played John. I won the 1st set and needed one game to win 2nd set. I remember I dogged a cut shot in the side. Lost the 2nd set and the final set went to John. I believe he then played Sigel and lost. Thanks for the memories, CJ

CJ in 1977 my older brother 22yrs old I was 9yr. Traveled around town in his new white Thunderbird he paid cash for from playing pool. I've been hooked ever sense I can still remember my dad saying who also played. Say stay away from Truman. What a life. Pool is definitely a lifestyle.

Great idea brother, I watched it twice!! Amazing that players have no idea about pushout!? We called it roll-out. If you put these young guys in a time machine back to the 70s and 80s they wouldn't believe it ! Actually the difference between early 70s and mid 80s was considerable

Very interesting information; and interjecting my 2-cents: the early Gen-X'ers and earlier('65-'85) new very generally how hard 15 ball rotation was as a game; and very popular on Air-Bases and such, like Abilene and Witchita Falls etc. Say all that to say this, 9-Ball was a faster paced way to at least cover table time. The Texas Express was a promoters/TV attempt to be more widely appealing: though I know you lived that, many do not know that money players not only lamented the train of balls on the spot, but realized TE 9-Ball was easier to impart to the uninitiated. Growing up in Westmoreland County PA we lost alot of time trying to teach 14.1, to Greenhorns as 8 was still the basement pool game. 9-Foot 9-Ball is the pentultimate game, it just morphed from more control to a beautiful display of kick-shots. Earl and ilk always hated the jump as demonstrated in the commentary for your match against Earl in '07, w/ Martin Courtois? And the funniest episode on TV ever! When a kid, in the back rooms they played Golf on 12×6 Snooker, w/ 4- bit hickeys; always felt TV missed the boat w/ that game! Thank you for the historical perspective, thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you ever want to do a canada tour stop by , we could set up a event there as well. Sky Woodward, morra, and a few other pros are coming to toronto for a event in a month as well.
