The human capacity if they do everything right is not 95 years of age. It is 140 ! How did scientists came up with this number ? Studying mammals and finding out that ALL mammals live their maturity age x 7. All of them. If we mature at age about 20 ( x 7 = 140). The problem is our brain. While a monkey or mouse is born and know exactly what to eat - we do not ! We argue, have a hundreds of books about eating healthy and a very few people realizes that chimpanzees who are genetically over 98 % identical with a human genome eat about 50% fruits and 50% green leaves. People who tried this diet ( raw vegan) look amazingly young, healthy and active and disease free. Only time will show the proof because this way of life is no more than 50+ years old.

From a Jewish Great-Grandmother in Jerusalem. In early 80's and brought up in USA, with "natural" approach to life, food and faith. Big advance is for world to oulaw most pesticides and the like. Ok, part of the world to start with. Growing up, vegetables and fruits tasted better..organic was probably the majority of foods. But mu hope for all those listening is that Kosher meat, chicken, etc is by its very definition, besides limited to only certain list of creatures, is that: No suffering,slightest pain in the taking of the life. Forbidden! Also: no diseased or injured animals, no using their blood (considered containing the soul of the creature). Can limit animal products, in diet, eggs very nutritios, but organic, and major "plant based" great. So your findings work fine for kosher diet! These days also possible to get organically and pasture raised animals. Dairy if you recommend it is hard to find natural, raw and no bad stuff given to the cows,goats etc. Therefore hope this enlightens. Re:blue zones? Jews are miraculously still here, majority living same way of life for 4,000 years. Longevity? Well, some, unfortunately adding processed, and junk food to their diet, are seeing many of the same diseases as society at large. Back to the health rules of Maimonides, and almost the same as yours! Thank you for reading. Love your work!!

I have been working a lot with the local Blue Zone effort. The food aspect has been working quite well. The built environment is an uphill battle. I new multi-lane, fast section of road was recently built next to our amazing central park...which is also the busiest area for foot traffic. It is a disaster. Someone has even been killed trying to cross this new section of road. I have labeled most of our community as #MEFIRST attitude. Blue Zones is doing their best here, and it is changing slowly. Personally, my wife and I have been holding monthly Blue Friday Cocktail parties that are fully plant based. We invite friends from our different connections. It has been a big hit over the past couple of years. We typically have 25 or so friends attend. The make up of the group changes month to month as some cannot always make it. I also teach at a public school and see the lack of exercise and poor eating habits of students. It does need to change. Great podcast. Thanks guys.

If we can be more positive, we can begin here in America by changing BIG AG. smaller farms throughout our country, as in the past when we didn't use pesticides. Biodynamic agriculture does already exist in America. It is taught in Waldorf schools. Follow this and you will find more centenarians. Thank you for your project. Will look forward to your book.🤗💜

Key points: Blue Zones: Dan Buettner explains that Blue Zones are regions with the highest concentrations of centenarians (people living to 100+ years) and lower rates of chronic diseases. These regions include Sardinia (Italy), Okinawa (Japan), Loma Linda (California, USA), Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica), and Ikaria (Greece). Lifestyle factors: The conversation highlights the importance of lifestyle factors in promoting longevity and overall well-being. These factors include a predominantly plant-based diet, regular physical activity, strong social connections, a sense of purpose, and stress reduction techniques. Diet: Dan and Rich discuss the crucial role of diet in promoting longevity. They emphasize the importance of consuming whole, plant-based foods, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nuts. Exercise and physical activity: The interview highlights the significance of natural movement in daily life, rather than relying solely on structured workouts. Activities such as walking, gardening, or engaging in community projects can contribute to overall health and well-being. Social connections: Strong social bonds and support systems are crucial for emotional and mental health. Dan and Rich discuss the importance of fostering deep relationships with family, friends, and community members. Purpose and stress reduction: Having a sense of purpose in life and engaging in activities that promote relaxation and stress reduction can contribute to overall happiness and longevity. The podcast covers various practices, such as meditation, mindfulness, and hobbies that align with personal passions.

One caveat to all of this. I don't think it's necessarily the "Longevity and longest-lived life." I think it has more to do with the quality of each day that leads to this. And the longest-lived lives usually express the qualities that make each day better and more fulfilled.

There once was a time when children rode bicycles to school. Now children are driven in a minivan. Every city needs to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Protected bicycle lanes that provide a safe way to travel are needed. Bicycles are healthy exercise and a fossil fuels free transportation option. Ride a bicycle to work, school or for fun. Every child should own a bicycle and use it daily. Cities need to encourage walking, bicycles and mass transit and not cars.

This is great information. How come when I say this stuff, every comment on my KZbin channel is "keto" "carnivore" "intermittent fasting" and "plants want to kill you!" I don't get it. If the longest living happiest people on earth live a certain way, we should just follow their success. I get nothing but negativity when I suggest vegetables or fruits. It's weird.

The difference is in Us people want to make business and abuse of the environment to get more money. When you have this spirit you can't love people and your ecosystem. You use the weaknesses of people to get more money from them. In a normal life we should help each other and just be happy not wanted more than that. That is why for me some people who have been set by media and community in the top of the podium! As example but they are not sorry. We have to change the way we give reward to people. If they destroy ecosystem by their actions they would not be show as respectable people.

Roger C that is inconvenient for many Vegans to mention. Therefore they downplay the role that meat still plays in these communities, or ignore it entirely.
@rogerc23
@rogerc23 4 жыл бұрын
@pbpb253. From my investigation people in four of the five blue zones consume meat, but they do so sparingly, using it as a celebratory food, a small side, or a way to flavor dishes. The advice is to be 95% whole food plant based. 65% carbs 20% fats 15% protein. The Adventist Health Study 2, which has been following 96,000 Americans since 2002, has found that the people who lived the longest were vegans or pesco vegetarians, who ate a plant-based diet that included a small amount of fish. So, while you may want to celebrate from time to time with chicken, pork or beef, it’s not recommend it as part of a Blue Zones Diet. Okinawans probably offer the best meat substitute: extra firm tofu, high in protein and cancer-fighting phyto-estrogens.

Holland had "bike culture" when I visited 45 years ago. The land is flat! All of these ideas are predicated on a very high standard of living, and generous, consistent incomes, with lots of leisure, and very few mobility impaired or truly aged people. Poor people who are racing between pt jobs to keep a roof over their heads and stay alive have no place in this picture. I despise the " bicycle nuts" more and more each day. Their unrestricted chaos, along with unlicensed uninsured ebikes, scooters, and motorbikes are a critical hazard for pedestrians in these imaginary oases.

Being Vegan isn't necessary but cutting down on red meat consumption has health benefits for some.

How much of the kitchen book is vegan? Lots of older cultures have meat dishes so I was wondering if it's ever worth to get as a vegan. Thank you in advance.

If/when they do eat meat, it's more as an added flavor or condiment to a dish, not a 20 oz steak.

No meat in the cookbook. It's focused more on every day dishes. There is a bit of optional dairy. I'm vegan and I love the cookbook.

Really great. Question Singapore air quality is almost the worst in the world. How come if they have a great mass transit system and an auction for licenses?

It has a plethora of fast food restaurants too. I think he may regret picking it as a Blue Zone eventually.

I mean you can eat all these things, but if you are not on a low calorie with them you are just doing the same things. Most of their diets are 1200 calories they said, and some were still overweight.
