@@cjwiley1541 Strickland has a funny story in his dvd's called Road Stories." This Tobacca was up and started break dancing like a little kid; must have thought it was a done deal. Earl says once he got this guy off the hill, he was toast, never to be staked against Earl again.

I always feel tournaments are the ultimate stress test. $$ action games fill your pockets, but the pressure to win match after match in an event, unlike a 1-on-1 staked situation, is the real action. Keep pocketing, players. Scott "Big Time" in Chicago $$$ 9 ball.

Yes there's a difference between tournament matches and gambling , kinda like boxing matches and street fights - gamblers are usually tougher, tournament specialists don't make many mistakes.

@@cjwiley1541 Great stuff. Your analogy to fighting is dead on, but my limited background would think tourney players would have to be tougher with expenses involved increasing pressure to produce. A gambler is staked. They take a loss and move to next player; no air, car, hotel, etc. I truly believe my martial arts background (3rd degree red, tae kwon do) gave me my discipline when I first picked up a cue, April 2023. 4-5 hours a day/repetition drills don't bore me, but I am in complete agreement with you and McCready. Straight pool is just not in my bloodstream; 9, for me, keeps the action going. 13 months later, I win my 1st $$ 9 ball event vs. guys playing for 30 years +. CJ, I wish you were in the Chicago area to critique my game; I'd beg, borrow and steal (not really) to pay for your time. My goal is not to be good; I'm there...I'm seeking and will get to greatness. If you know any Tour players (current or ex) in my area, let's go, man, let's go).

I will never forget meeting Dean Moore when i was 17. I was playing Earl Kellum an 8 ahead set in Mauldin SC and we went back and forth for 12 hours and we were even. I had the red ass because i was on 7 twice and starting hollering to bet more. Dean says "son how much can i bet?" I said you can bet whatever the fook you want loudly. Dean stopped and looked at me and said "boy you scare me talking to me like that" but jokingly. After i lost the set in 45 minutes he came up and introduced himself and we became friends from that day forward. Say what you want about Dean but he if he liked you he treated you like family and did with me. He saved me numerous times.. RIP my friend..
