For a plethora of reasons (most of which u just listed) expanding DL/DCA just makes more sense than a 3rd gate. I also can see them making any new/side entrances to these new lands only being for guests of the 3 Disney hotels. Non hotel guests must use main entry by esplanade. Another hotel perk.

You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enter through the Grand Californian entrance in the actual hotel.

@grantwarren5214 .. Well, yes and no. From DTD, yes, you can enter the hotel.. and u MAY be allowed access to DCA. But its not guaranteed. Sometimes before 11am they will deny non hotel guests. And if u are walking from Katella, they no longer let u enter GCH without a hotel key or dining res. Just FYI. And the Pixar Pier entrance is exclusively for Disney hotel guests.

All their new investments on that side of Downtown Disney (Din Tai Fung, new Marvel store, new food court, whatever ESPN will be) surely seem geared towards being a higher traffic area than it is now, but it's definitely too congested to be the entry point for a new park. Make it two secondary entrances, though, and an early access point for hotel guests to the exciting new expansions? It falls into place very well. Keep up the detective work, Brickey!

DCA needs more! Disneyland is legendary and DCA needs to get on that level! Expand the parks. A third gate in Toy Story only once all other land is being used to the best it can be.

DCA DESPERATELY needs more rides. As it is, there are currently only about 6-8 rides that anybody cares about (not counting the generic non-IP carnival rides). That's like a third of what Disneyland has. In addition to the 2 new Marvel rides, they really need to find a way to add around 3-5 more dark rides in the Hollywood/Buena Vista area. If that means changing the theme there, so be it. If they did that and then put Avatar (the proposed new ride AND Flight Of Passage) and another mini-land in the expansion area, it would finally be something that comes closer to equalling what is offered at Disneyland.

Compared to the Grand Californian, the other two Disney hotels pale in comparison. If Disney is hoping to expand its parks into the land surrounding these two hotels, what are the chances they would re-theme or do a complete rebuild so that those hotels would blend far more seamlessly into their environments?

Right on the money. Turning those two parking lot areas into a single park has some horrendous logistics problems. The biggest one being the foot traffic. Disney would need to get guests from the north park to the south park while keeping those guests separate from the Disneyland Hotel guests wanting to get to the esplanade and into one of those parks. Much better to expand the two parks, turning Disneyland into a full 2 day park, and pushing DCA into more than a single day park. Add in the perk of hotel guests getting exclusive early access to the two expansion areas, and that's a real winner. When there is a third gate, it's going to be in the Toy Story lot.

The addition to DL & DCA makes way too much sense as you pointed out. Hotel guest only access and maybe even day pass upcharge for non-hotel guests. One thing that seems like a possibility is to turn the Monorail from a Downtown Disney Monorail stop into a Disneyland Park west expansion stop. No need to move the station, just close one entrance and create another one on the park side. Would make way more sense to make the Monorail into a very functional transportation from one end of the park to the other. Would really make a lot of folks angry as an idea, but I think adding a transportation option in addition to the walking option is very smart.

I still think the only way to do a third park on the West Side is to eventually (in phases, over 15-20 years), demolish EVERYTHING that is currently there. That would includes the existing hotels, Downtown Disney, etc. But I doubt Disney has the patience for that.

Maybe you should make a video exploring where they could build more hotels. WDW has been completely hijacked by DVC towers... certainly they won't be expanding DL/DCA without the substantial short term revenue of selling timeshares. But of course, WDC mgt is savvy and would never show several new hotel towers when they pitched DL Forward to the local business owners!

Thanks for explaining in detail why a third park just won’t work on the west side of the property. A couple personal predictions I’d like to share: (1) a villains themed land will go in the former DTD and Disneyland Hotel parking lot with an elegant transition from the woods of Bayou Country. I think this entrance is already placed near the exit of Tiana’s. And (2) this might be a stretch, but I do predict that Disney will revisit the WESTCOT idea for the third park on the Toy Story lot.

I hope Disney builds a second tower, for the new Villas: At the Disneyland Hotel. Because the current number rooms is 395 rooms and the Bay Lake Tower at Walt Disney World has 428 rooms, Including Fourteen Grand Villas. Where this new edition only has Two Grand Villas. A brand new version of Steakhouse 55 can be placed there as well. Also, there can be Waterfront Bungalows. Basically like the ones at the Polynesian Resort that can float on a man-made Lagoon, where a DVC addition to the Paradise Pier Hotel can also be placed in.

Solid speculations. I agree that a 3rd gate would only be a half day affair and that doesn't seem to be a likely course of action for corporate. That said, a $2.5m spend could easily be viewed as a "tear-down" spend amount for the C-suite level execs. Personally, I think this real estate will be divided between both DCA and Disneyland expansions.

The ESPN building must have an elevator inside already. So no extra expense to add one. The ESPN building could also be split in half. One part facing DTD and the other part facing the Hotel. Looking at how small the new Parkside Market is as an example. The Adventure Tower could be torn down and rebuilt South of the Frontier Tower or built as an addition to the Frontier tower. The Security gates and new restaurant South of ESPN created the new "berm" for DTD. Cutting the back side of ESPN off to be in line with the other 2 buildings could be a reason for the 2+ billion $ expenditure. (Personally the ESPN building should be removed) I feel that the way Anaheim has grown and can grow in the future is to look at how Epic Universe is being constructed with its "City Walk" acting as a Main Street and lands off to each side of it. A 3rd and eventually 4th park (strawberry fields) will do more to bring in guests than adding in to the 2 existing parks. When DCA was floundering the desire by some at WDI was to connect it on the East side to Disneyland creating one huge park. Some wanted to make DCA be apart of Downtown Disney and only keep a few attractions in the Pier with a pay to ride concept. Instead they decided to throw money at DCA to keep it a 2nd gate to keep future hotel occupancy up.

If I was to take a guess I’d be saying as you said the two car parks becoming an extension of each park. Disney land have an extension that runs into fantasy springs and DCA will have a connection that will go into avatar, possibly ankother IP, but possibly that use that are also has maintenance as they look to push out avengers campus as well. Both fantasy springs and avatar can, and do, use a tunnel entrance so you can go under (or over) the road to get outside the “berm” of the park

What “grand entry way” is necessary? It’s just an entryway slightly inside of the monorail. The entry way of DL and DCA is the gates and an assortment of shops. The third park will be the smaller of three parks. It’s merely a 3rd gate and I just don’t think Disney will pass up the opportunity to charge more for 2 large areas of attractions instead of getting it for free at DL or DCA. Then Disneyland and Pixar Hotel will effectively be inside the third park that we should call Fantasy Springs Park.

I doubt a third theme park would happen but regarding a DCA expansion - isn't Disney already expanding the Avengers Campus area partially into what is a parking lot and some trailers? It's a pretty big space and I'm wondering if Disney has ever considered buying that last chunk of of land on the corner of Harbor Blvd and Katella Ave - if they did that they could straighten out the perimeter road and open up even more land for another area for DCA, maybe even get rid of those three large warehouse buildings and move whatever was in them to another location. I don't know, it makes more sense to me than trying to build a fairly long bridge over Disneyland Drive and complicate the situation with the parking and lose that nice hidden Mickey there.

If I were deciding on a third park, I would want to basically take the original name for Beastly Kingdom, "Mythya" and the general idea of the soon-to-be defunct Lost Continent, where-in you'd have various lands dedicated to mythological stories of Disney, namely Mt. Olympus, Agrabah, Prydain, and Kumandra.

I hope Disney really focus on a DCA expansion, because compared to Disneyland park, it’s kind of sad. Off topic, but I personally find the audio trailing off at the end of each segment to be annoying. Just keep the volume at a normal level throughout. I get anxiety when I feel like you’re near the end of a segment and the drop in volume is coming. And then I hear it, and the tension starts to build for the next volume trail off. I don’t think I can watch your channel if you’re going to keep doing this, but I do enjoy the content otherwise and wish you good luck!

With Downtown Disney and the hotels bisecting the expansion area, it doesn’t seem possible to connect the north and south ends as a continuous third gate. Regardless, I do expect Disney to completely remove the Pixar Place Hotel at some point. The recent renovations seem more like a quick fix for a few years.

Disney Forward is not a 3rd gate. 3rd gate comes in employee parking after foward finishes around 2030. They have the right to close WEST street between Harbor and Ball. The street between hotel and parking structure can also be closed. ESPN will become an eatery since it already has the infostructure of one for ESPN zone. The entire parking lot area to the hotel building after ESPN zone is all part of Disney Foward. looking to the hotel the right side parking lot will be extension of Disneyland and no not a 3rd park on its own because of the Hotel. Encanto is going to go directly behind Incredicoaster simular to Avengers new E-Ticket. Leaving avatar for Hollywood area from the circle to Guardians tower or terror. So People Mover is going to be transporting folks from Disneyland to new Forward area. While the Skyway Tram way is coming to DCA Pixar Pier's parking lot. As for the building and top floor we'll see that's going to play out.

Downtown Disney always just SUCKS, more so even now. Universal CityWalk was always more vibrant and had mix of entertainment options that gave a energetic, city-like vibe. BUT, that's even changing! At this point, just wish that area was engulfed in flames like up north and start over! CityWalk feels more like an entertainment district that appeals to a wider audience, while Downtown Disney is better suited for Disney fans and families. It comes down to personal preference!

Bricky you do great reporting...and...it still blows my mind that someone can just walk onto a public space like this and do essentially a remote report on the landowner and stream it for revenue...without any permission, permit, or proof of liability insurance indemnifying the landowner. I mean in theory what would happen if someone were to trip over your camera or someone with you during one of these reports? Would Disney have a cause of action? I gotta believe you've inquired about this to protect yourself.
