I enjoyed the video, but I just wanted to say there are a few wrong facts about the originality of the structures in Tomorrowland. Most of the buildings that you said were built in the 1967 Tomorrowland redesign were there since 1955, they've just been modified over the years. I also find it ironic how you focus on how Modern Disney should do things that are not Cheap and Easy while proposing to build a clone of the Beauty and the Beast ride from Tokyo. Disney has started cloning rides like Ratatouille and Tron from their international parks because it's Cheaper and Easier compared to designing a new ride/theme from the ground up. Personally, I hope Disney goes back to its old ways and creates new experiences with old ride systems like how they "Cloned" Tokyo's Indiana Jones Temple of the Crystal Skull from California's Temple of the Forbidden eye. Anyways keep up the good work.

I’m always amazed at the number of attractions there used to be in the lands and now they spend billions and open a new land with one attraction and another one to come. As kids, we went from inner space to space mountain to Captain Eo, arcades, carousel of progress, people mover, mission to mars, autopia, circle vision, submarines and the terrifying but fun rocket Jets. Enjoyed the music at Tomorrowland terrace. Look at all the rides in fantasyland. Not every ride needs to be a rise of the resistance.

Good point. I was sad when they added the new Star Wars land. It's so well done, but after my first exploration, I just kind of wander through it now on my way to other places, or maybe to look at merch. There doesn't actually seem to be much there (for me, at least).

@Riceball01 Жыл бұрын
I don't think that the problem is a lack of vision or imagination, I'm sure that they have plenty of that. What's lacking is money, or more to say, the willingness to spend the kind of money that it would take to make someone's vision come true. You have to remember that Disney isn't a private company owned and run by the Disney family and hasdn't been for decades. They're a publicly traded company and that means that the CEO isn't the ultimate boss, the board of directors are and what they care about is the price of the company's stock. And if the CEO, be it Eiger or someone new, isn't going to be CEO for long if they start spending money like crazy and cause the stocks to stuffer a massive drop in price. It's also worth noting that a drop in the price of Disney stocks wouldn't just affect these big wigs. It affects anybody who owns shares of Disney stocks, some of whom own them as part of their retirement nest egg. And even if you don't own any shares of Disney directly, if you have any form of mutual fund, or a 401K, you just might be a shareholder and not realize it.

@@Riceball01Disney spent 4 billion on just the star wars IPO, they are making it back hand over fist but they don't lack money, they lack people with vision that know how to spend that money. Hopefully the 3rd park in Anaheim will allow that vision to come to light and see that they can improve something like tomorrow land and make it even better. as much as I love the current Tomorrow Land, I would love to see a re-theme every 25 years or so to keep things up with the current technology, can you image how it could look with LED's and video boards, make it look like the future we were all promised.

Realistically Disney isn’t going to pay up to totally redo Tomorrowland to how we all want it. Retro Tomorrowland from Walt’s Space Age era seems more logical. That’s where they were headed with the new TL entrance. Plays off the nostalgia of old school TL, it’s way cheaper, and solves the problem of having to constantly update TL. I do like your idea of splitting up the land with new Fantasyland & Main Street extension. Maybe could finally get Liberty Street + Edison Square like Walt wanted!

Actually, the America Sings attraction loaded on the top floor alongside the Tron Speed tunnel. Before the Speed Tunnel was incorporated over that part of the PeopleMover route, just as seen in WDW we passed the same model of Progress City that's now at Florida at Magic Kingdom. The Carousel building's ground floor was used for storage, as many of the animatronics used in America Sings were on swivel stages and elevator lifts that rose up from the lower level pit throughout the presentation. Even before America Sings, during it's Carousel of Progress days and on into its Innovention years (Pre- Star Wars Launch Bay which moved the entrance to the ground floor), the second floor was always the way to enter the attractions that were hosted in that building. My favorite part of entering that building was walking up to the top of the ramp and having to wait for the entrance doors to revolve back to the start position, because the auditorium and outer walls of the structure were on a track that rolled on cue around the stage which sat stationary with its own automated moving elements.

Hey Brickey! I love the video, & I too am nostalgic for the Tomorrowland I grew up with in the 70's, 80's, & 90's. Since part of the Carousel building houses the storage track for the Peoplemover, I think a good use for it is a dual purpose. Since Disney doesn't like to spend much money these days, just make the bottom floor a Tron End of Line Club. The top floor could eventually be the new Peoplemover Station. They could turn the old Magic Eye Theatre into the DVC Club. As far as Fantasyland, turn the old Fantasyland Autopia side into Frozen land, while keeping the Lagoon. In my opinion turn the Starcade into the Space Mountain queue, on both levels & reinstall a speed ramp to the second level. Return Pizza Planet back to a attraction, & bring back my favorite quick service restaurant "The Space Place". And finally the old Peoplemover Station, take out the tracks in the middle of the lands entrance. Just connect the tracks from the Buzz Building to Star Tours. Put the Rocket Jets back on top of the building, but use the old Peoplemover station as queue space for the Rocket Jets. Just curious to what you think of this idea? Hello from Phoenix Arizona ❗🔥

Excellent ideas! I seem to be in the minority, but I love Star Tours v2. I like that new scenes can be added, keeping it the same but different. I would like to see Disney move it into Batuu, somewhere. That would allow Disney to add their latest Star Wars IP to at least this ride as the years move on, without too much investment. That would free up space in Tomorrowland, without sacrificing a ride. That would make way for your extended Main Street idea. It is definitely time for a huge makeover of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. I thing that would help to bring in Tourists, locals would also have a renewed interest and they be more willing to part with their hard earned $. We can only hope that Disney will move forward and not just slap on a new coat of paint.

Hey Brickey, love your channel, keep up the good work. I have to say you really shined in this video. I enjoyed this video so much. Your passion for Disneyland shines in this video. I agree a people mover for the sake of a people mover is a lame band aide. Your shrinking of Tomorrow Land and expanding its neighbors is intriguing. Im sure if they let their top Imagineers loose on it with a big budget it would be Amazing. A roller coaster that is a sled from Arendel or riding the waves with Moana . Maybe a themed restaurant inside a castle like Jasmine’s or Aerial’s would be a huge hit. I even think they could keep an Autopia if part of the track went under the Fantasy Land expansion and it was like you were driving in the lower level of a future city in electric cars. With a smaller or no Autopia Tomorrow Land isn’t really losing much space. If they layered and themed the new Tomorrow Land it could become a park attraction. Instead of something you walk through to get to Space Mountain. I have to say I like Star Tours. I would prefer it gets moved instead or removed. Let’s hope the Disney executives have a vision for a brighter Tomorrow ( Land ). Thanks for all your videos.

3:25 Circarama did not open in 1960. The original Circarama show would open a few days after the park opening in 1955. It was replaced in 1960 with America the Beautiful in 1960. Also, several walk through exhibits occupied this building from 1955 to 1966.

They could put the old Submarine Voyage back. That is timeless. Agreed on a consistent theme for the train station. I don't think a lounge would be useful for America The Beautiful building. The expense you mention sounds worth it to bring back the People Mover. Anyone saying not to bring it back otherwise is not understanding why people liked the People Mover in the first place. Although, I agree that it needs to be more than a lounge to look at. If nothing good can be replaced there, I understand you want the building removed, but I believe the controls to the People Mover reside there, so it would likely need to stay with a retheming. Agreed on the pizza place going back to being an attraction. As nice as a rebuilt Space Mountain would be, that definitely seems unlikely. Starcade should reopened. A complete overhaul would be fine but also unlikely. I would love a Walt attraction too. Keep in mind there is a limit to their budget, so retheming isn't necessarily bad if that's all they can do. It just depends what they do. If they have no option to rebuild the entire land, then I'll take that, but of course, pie in sky, billions of dollars, a new Tomorrowland would be great.

Brickey. This one goes deep with me. I grew up going to the Classic Tomorrowland. Inner Space. Peoplemover. RocketJets 🚀 on top of the platform. (they were terrifying at that height. a teenager’s dream). I agree with much of your assessment but not all. No one mentions this fact: Disney did away with attractions that let guests throw things onto other guests. (There was a day where people were cordial enough that this didn’t happen.) If the Peoplemover comes back, each car will be sealed like a gondola. I agree that the Launch Bay building is a waste of space and function. However, with the announcement of the lounge, Disney management has now committed to a “No transformation” strategy. The Peoplemover is not the problem, management’s small thinking, and cost cutting, is. I love the Peoplemover and I’d love to see it come back. But you don’t need Launch Bay to do it. I do think that Autopia should become Arendelle and thus Fantasyland. I agree on that point. Buzz Lightyear isn’t going away, nor Space Mountain. I think everything else is up for grabs. So I’m for a “part nostalgia” and “part Fantasyland” and “part reboot” strategy.

I'm of the mindset that Tomorrowland's layout is almost alright, that is, if Disney Co. actually populated all of their real estate. Buildings are VERY expensive so tearing them down and spending upwards of a billion dollars for new ones is simply not going to happen. Disney will not be hiring Grimshaw Architects, as they did in Shanghai, for all new buildings. These buildings all need extreme facade -ectomies NOT like the kind in the 90s but ones that take some of them down to their respective steel and concrete structures. They can then all be made more coherent. Had Disney not updated Orlando's Tormorrowland its Logans Run aesthetic would still look futuristic. That's why they are slowly trying to put it back. Disneyland is not that dissimilar. Despite what people say, the aesthetics of the Tomorrowlands never became the present.

I’m new to your channel and have become a big fan in a short time. While I’d LOVE an almost total teardown of Tomorrowland, I just don’t see them springing for it. I honestly feel the land’s problems are largely aesthetic. The lack of cohesion is appalling. Galactic Grill looks like it’s in a 70s outlet mall. New facades/interior refreshes for the buildings would go a great way in fixing the land. But Innoventions should go entirely, and the Magic Eye theater should too.

You're right, on almost every point, but there will be a 3rd gate, or an extension west of disneyland dr. which is where the new fantasyland will go. Your plan of taking away 3/4 of what tomorrowland is because you dont have any good ideas of what to do with it isnt a good solution either. Also the tomorrowland terrace is from Tomorrowland 2055 in the 1990's which I believe is still part of the underlying story of tomorrowland. It's the centerpiece of what tomorrowland is and connects to the rest of the park and the overall disney tomorrowland story. This was part of Tony Baxter's overall plan for Disney. It should be the center of whatever they do to tomorrowland in the future.

Not sure I agree with all your points…. But I think there are some great observations. I am uncertain about the points of many of the commenters either. Tomorrowland was best when the future was on the move. With Galaxy’s Edge it is something of a remnant of Walt’s vision. The false narrative here is that people do not understand futurism is always more about predicting the present. Which means Tomorrowland needs to be constantly refreshed. Today, we have a future is mothballed. We need kinetic vibe. Peoplemover is integral to that. So all I see is a future that is mothballed, static, subject to IP that overstays it’s welcome. But what we don’t need is more fantasyland, or more Main Street. We need execs that understand what futurism is. I do not have faith in Chapek to have that kind of vision and if they couldn’t come up with a solution under Iger, I doubt they have enough vision for today. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

You won't get something new if they keep running the old. Magic Happens was way better than Soundsational. Unfortunately covid halted that, hopefully not permanently. Although nothing has been announced to replace Magic Map yet, it ran for like 7 years. It should have been replaced long before the park closure anyway. The great thing about KZbin...there are tons of videos of them that the kids can still watch it whenever they want.

I Lovvve your plan of Mickey Mouse park (but also include Disneylandia was to have coin op AA figures in miniature & travel city to city) I personally thought of a "surf coaster" family style attraction to replace Autopia that looked like flying cars that would be indoor/out door with visions of a future cityscape. There could still be a late 50's 60's reto future look rather than steam punk. With the new promise of space exploration + the return to the moon & mars could spark "Horizons 2" Just a thought.

Incredible if this actually happens! As a regular guest (passholder) having to look in on the elite guests is a joke. Walt Disney would absolutely be livid. This would be similar to Pirates of the Caribbean looking in on the Blue Bayou Restaurant. The difference is all guests are welcome that can afford the restaurant. Here's hoping that Disneyland does the right thing☘️😃. D23 2022 just might be our first Glimpse at the future of Tomorrowland.

“All guests are welcome who can afford it…” …..so not all guests then? Got it.

I've only heard your thesis statement so far and already have to comment, no, getting the peoplemover back would not mean staying dedicated to the incongruos mismatch of attractions. Just about every attraction in Tomorrowland that the peoplemover passes through has been remodelled, updated or replaced at some point in the past, there is no reason they couldnt be replaced again and still maintain the peoplemover passing through them.

There is virtually nothing in Tomorrow Land that is of interest to me, except the people mover. It was like the Disneyland Train, slow moving, relaxing, with lots to see. It was also one place you could go to rest your feet from walking and standing, yet do it in a way that was enjoyable.

Yup, the People MOver was always one of my favorite rides as a kid and teenager going to the park. When they added Tron, it made it even better. I think they forget the Disneyland needs those long, slow moving rides so people can take a break, off their feet while still 'doing something'. But also... I admit, it was the perfect ride as teenagers who wanted 'to be alone' and make-out a little. Not that I would ever have done such a thing, of course. ;)

While I appreciate the views you described I do feel the need to point out that while the images shared of what future Tomorrowland should look like, it’s just not fiscally responsible. The problem with modern buildings is that eventually they aren’t modern. Trends change on average every 15 years. Originally tomorrow land was the future but it’s since long gone. Vintage is the way to go, trying to keep it updated would forever be a giant waste of resources. The nostalgia is exhausting, our memories serve us better than the memories really are. The comments about Disney only serving the top tier is literally the laziest argument. Disney has always been for the top tiers. Old footage shows people in their Sunday best. Disney has no problem with attendance, it’s obviously plenty affordable. Walt Disney himself once said when faced between bathrooms or drinking fountains in the budget said “people can’t piss in the street, but they can buy coke” he established the elite club 33. Where is this nonsense that he was for the poor? Where is the outrage for club 33? Disney is a Luxury just the same as a beach front vacation is to some. Let’s stop with the nonsense that he would be rolling in his grave. I do agree with your expansion of fantasyland and I appreciate the content but I just wanted to provide my unsolicited prospective.

I disagree. As I noted, the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland aesthetic never became the present, which is why they are now trying -- not terribly hard and with great success -- to put it back.

Good points. Disneyland does seem was made for more upper middle class families
