This was filmed before the big winter storm in Texas. We thankfully were back at Kathryn's parent's house and we got very lucky with (mostly) keeping power, having heat, and having running water. So many people around Texas were not as lucky though. 😭 Thank you to everyone who checked in on us! ⬇️ Watch our Texas Vlogs ⬇️ kzbin.info/aero/PLZKRTK1yCEM4vqN0o21kVtlV7VpiAwOz3 Safety is our #1 priority and we want to stress that this adventure, and all future adventures, will be done responsibly and with the health of others in mind. Here are the steps we are taking everyday, including in these videos: 😷Masks and face coverings. We wear these anytime we are near others outside and especially indoors. If we don’t have a mask on in a video, it’s 99% because there was no one around. ❌Not seeing anyone outside of our household. We are currently living with 4 family members and have a strict “do not see anyone outside of the household” family policy. The only interactions we have with others is quickly grabbing takeout or going to the grocery store. ⏰ Exploring early. We have been starting most of our days before sunlight so we can limit our interactions. 🧼 Washing and sanitizing our hands 6️⃣ Keeping our distance. We are trying to stay at least 6 ft from others, which truthfully isn’t always possible (and then we make sure we cover our face).

I have lived in Amarillo all my life, 26 years. I have gone here probably 500 times and it still does not get old. The back of the park is the free-rang back packing area that is like 4,000 acres of no roads and minimal trails for people to just go explore and go back-packing for a few nights, that's my favorite area because there is never many people out there.

@bigjimslade62503 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK I don’t remember a wall but there was a nearly vertical wash that we went through the second time. My wife cried because she was afraid about getting back down. Plus it was about an hour before sunset so the return hike was cutting it close. The first time we went my son & I went straight past the picnic table. There were so many people on & around the table that we didn’t even see the path to the left to go uphill. We probably went about 1/2 mile & then split up for a bit before we realized our mistake. The funny thing on that trip was we come up on a biker who had wrecked & landed on a cactus. He had the stickers all over his backside. We gave him some duct tape & he used that to get the stickers out. Moral to that story is that when hiking in cactus country, take duct tape.
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
WOW, what a story!!! And we feel ya on the sunset thing. Last time we had to rush a bit to avoid walking entirely in the dark. Duct tape is a really good tip! Kona didn't seem to care ONE BIT about the cacti during our time in the Panhandle (or the small stickers) and finally got stuck with one in her leg. Duct tape would've made removing it easier for sure!

Go back and see the musical! It starts with a cowboy on the very top of the cliff (which serves as the backdrop to the musical). The sun is beaming on him as he mounts his gorgeous palomino horse. He unfolds an enormous Texas flag and streaks across the very top of the cliff--on the very edge with the flag gleaming. He stops and the horse jumps up (like Zorro!) and streaks back across as the sun dips behind the cliff and it becomes instantly dark. And the play starts. Special effects are breathtaking. Loved this video! It’s the coolest place and we plan on going back when it’s warmer. We were there a few days before the Arctic Vortex hit. We were making a fast trip back from Az to NW Ar. We lucked out and there was a cancellation so instead of just going for the day spent the best night there. A running creek behind our camp spot. Woke up to snow flurries but didn’t slow our ride around the park area.Was super cold getting out to take photos of awesome views and boulders. The ride down into the canyon in a 31 ft Class C wasn’t bad at all. One place the brakes did get a little warm. Love the way they have all the campsites in different areas with tables and some have covers. Our spot would have been nice and shady under big trees had it been the summer season. Everyone should visit Palo Duro Canyon, it’s beautiful and we had such a pretty sunset too🥰 We waved goodbye and said we will be back when we can stay longer. We got home late sat night and the storm rolled in behind us. We did fine, I had read an earlier post yawl made that all was good at home too. Never ever had weather like that here! You two have a fun week ahead and thanks again for sharing the sights and sounds of that adventure!😁👍

Oh wow, we’re so glad you made it before the snow storm! We keep saying how thankful we are that we weren’t up there in the van during it. Our heater wouldn’t work because it was SO cold and the diesel gelled up, so we would’ve been frozen in the van. We’re so happy you enjoyed the park! It’s one of the coolest spots in TX!
@bjclassic19503 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK There’s an additive you can put in the fuel tank to prevent that problem. Of course your tank has to be inside the van or in an insulated storage area. Those heaters are super. So many are switching to those!

Haha I can actually think of one rest area in Texas that could rival the one in the video. It sits above the Pecos River Bridge, north west of Del Rio! Beautiful scenery.

It looks like a nice state park, especially with the views. Me and my family were gonna check out the state park while we stopped over in Amarillo for a day but we didn’t have time since our itinerary was full. Maybe next time if I happen to do the full Route 66 trip, or at least continue the other half of Route 66 from Amarillo to Chicago (where I live) since I already did the Santa Monica to Amarillo portion.

That place looks beautiful..........and like it is full of snakes. Especially the rock garden trail. Snakes don’t really bother me that much but the running down the trail in the dark part.😮

If I'm correct and have the same location in mind, the second 'dark' cave you were in, goes all the way through and you come out on the top of the hill. It gets very dark and narrow but our dog kept going, so you have to follow the dog and that's what we found out:)

Thanks for the video, we stopped by Palo Duro this January on our way to Arizona and it was incredible! Amazingly, we went by the Big Cave once because there were no people there and we thought it must not be the Big Cave because there were no crowds! Your cave hike was much better the Big Cave was a bit of a disappointment.
