We took a helicopter to a glacier in Alaska in 1990. I brought back glacier water in my film canister. We used that water in 1991 to Baptist our son. Such an amazing experience to watch you today.

Thank you so much for letting those of us who won’t be ice climbing in our lives to live vicariously through you. What a gift. Kathryn, you are a roll model for girls and women. I love it after I have conquered one of my fears. Heights are one of them. It is exhilarating, when I do, and I come away feeling inspired and energized. Excellent work you two. Keep it up! We are thoroughly enjoying your Adventures in Alaska.

Love it! We did a private ice climbing tour in Iceland. It still remains one of the best things I’ve ever done! I was surprised how different it felt from rock climbing. It worked almost entirely different muscles and it also took me a minute to get used to the fact that my whole body weight was essentially supported by only a few spikes in ice. 😅
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
We couldn't agree more with the feeling of your body being supported by spikes! When I (Kathryn) think about this experience vs bouldering, rock scrambling, or the Via Ferrata we did, this was 10x scarier and harder because I felt like I had less grip and control over what I was climbing on. Such an adjustment!
@AngelaBrinker2 жыл бұрын
That looks amazing! (and hard!) I appreciate you sharing that you found it really challenging too - all too often youtubers try this type of really physically challenging thing, and appear to sail through like it's super easy for them, and maybe it is, but it's good to know that you can struggle a little bit to do something and still enjoy it. If you're interested in some Alaska history and glacier scrambling reading check out John Muir's "Travels in Alaska". Your visit to the glacier reminded me how much I enjoyed this book. His dog even joined him at times.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
It was pretty tough! Especially for two people who have a fear of heights in different ways. For some reason the heights didn't bother me (Adam) this time. I tried to focus on my hands and feet instead of looking down and that helped I think. We think it's important to acknowledge when something is tough as well. We definitely struggled at times during this experience and wanted to share those struggles. I'm actually listening to a book about the Harriman Alaska Expedition and John Muir was one of the people on that expedition. The author recreates the expedition and shares history and tidbits from both journeys. It's a pretty neat listen. Thanks for sharing your recommendations. I'll take a look at those as well Thanks, Angela!

Wow, what a beautiful adventure! There was so much to appreciate about this aspect of your Alaska journey. We were so stoked to see you accomplish something so challenging. On a similar note, I’m usually not comfortable with heights, but was blessed to be able to hike Angels Landing a few years ago. It was especially meaningful to do that alone very early one morning, and to have the summit to myself. My wife and I are in our ‘60’s and thoroughly enjoy being able to “tag along” with you on your trips. You’ve encouraged us to make it to several of the same places you’ve been. Many thanks for that, and for all the hard work you put into your work.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
We had such a great time out there and were proud of ourselves for conquering our fears. Nice job on the Angel's Landing hike. That's one we haven't done yet. We've just heard so much about the crowds on that hike that it has steered us away from it. If we could experience it without all the crowds we'd like to do that hike. We're lucky and thankful we can share our experiences with others. Thank you for watching!

Glad you guys went there. I was there 25 years ago and remember that place well, it does look like it has receded but not as bad as some of the other glaciers. You may not go to the Kenai Peninsula but another one to visit is to follow Exit Glacier to the Harding Ice Field, which is over 40 miles across, that place was mind blowing. Unfortunately Exit Glacier has really receded in the past years. Cameras can’t justify the blue one sees in person from a glacier. There is nothing like a glacier experience when you venture in the outdoors that is for certain.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын

Wow, Warren made the foot actions of getting the spikes into the ice look so easy, then cue you Kathryn going onto it and you falling back off - I'd have been right there with you if it's of any consolation?! That said, you were awesome when you actually got onto the proper climbing as opposed to the 'first go'. The 2nd climb was epic, and the shots from the top with the circular shape to the edge was very pretty. Your drone shots were brilliant too. Ice climbing is something I'd LOVE to do but never had the opportunity (that I am aware of!) Not ice climbing, but I've been toying with the idea of getting a guide to help us with a grade 3 scramble-hike on our next trip to the Lake District (we've done plenty of grade 1's where no ropes are needed, but 3 needs ropes, and thus in my head a guide) and this video is giving me the push to go for it!! I know you guys have always said you hate the term 'influences' but I'm so pleased you do influence me to get out more and push myself more with newer or scarier things - I booked a Via Ferrata after your Via Ferrata video and had the best time - hopefully this will be the same! 🤞
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Warren and Levi were amazing guides! They gave us the confidence to step up and go all in! I'd definitely recommend getting a guide for any activity that you think you need one for. We haven't done any rock climbing, but if we did we'd for sure be getting a guide! We don't like "influence," but "inspiring" is great! 😂 We loved the Via Ferrata and can't wait to do more some time! We can't wait to see your videos on your Lake District experience. That is a place high on our bucket list when we get to that side of the pond again! We're way behind on your videos unfortunately, but we just wrapped up your Northern Wales series and it was spectacular!

Wow!! Y’all looked like pro’s climbing that ice!! I’ve always wanted to walk on a glacier but I’m to old to climb one! Thank you both for letting us see how that is done!

Awesome adventure! It's challenging to go outside of your comfort zone. High 5! I figured you chose Mica for espresso and ice cream too.

Fun Fact: The Alaska Marine Highway System (the "Alaska Ferries") ships are each named for a glacier in Alaska. The Matanuska ferry is one of the mainline ferries in their fleet, which sometimes does the long Bellingham - Skagway route.
