Wow--amazing. Impressed by the guts of these guys. I'd think that, using those ice picks constantly, it would be very easy for your hands to start cramping up--and also very easy to lose the handle on the pick and watch it tumble into the void. And then what? Are the picks tethered to the climber's jacket or belt?
@BlackPantherClimbing2 жыл бұрын
That's what I always wonder. I imagine it's a preference, like some people attach them to their wrists, and others (like the guy in this video) don't bother attaching them, because they are confident that they won't drop their pick

I would never have a prussik on the rope when rappelling next to flowing water. There have been reported cases of people drowning under waterfalls because their prusik/friction hitch locked up on the rope and they got sucked into the waterfall.

abalakov
@matejeberle3642 жыл бұрын
Abalakov only makes sense to me if the follower would have picked it all up, which would have been quite challenging given the overhanging nature of the route. At the same time, I don't know how much I'd want to belay from only 2 ice screws at the end when the follower would be falling into it as well. Another option would be that there would be a lot of abalaks, and that again doesn't seem to me very environmentally ok.
