Human Sized Butterfly Costume

This outfit simultaneously gives the vibes of "Vegas Showgirl" and "childhood costume dreams I can finally achieve at the scale my young self imagined." When I was a kid, we raised caterpillars a couple of times, which we caught wild in a field. One time we found a praying mantis! I remember my dad rotating the flower it was on, trying to let all us kids have a proper look at it, and it walking on the flower like a treadmill. It must have been a weird day for that insect. I like how the dress works as both a costume and, since it's a sparkly black sheath dress, as a general 'special occasion' outfit. You even ended up with a matching bag! Having a butterfly print as the lining is a cute wink at the overall design. The floral carpet also looks like a visual gag in the context of this video. The shoes are very pretty! I do not wear heels but I appreciate all the creative ways people embellish them. And those wings are amazing! They are in proportion or close to it with you as a butterfly! Fun fact, butterfly wings are covered in tiny scales (which is why some, like the Blue Morpho, are iridescent), so rhinestones are totally accurate to include! (Another fun fact, the Morpho genus of butterflies do not have blue pigment. Their colouring is an illusion created by light refraction in their scales, like how polar bears look 'white' when their fur is clear. Of the 200+ genera of butterflies, only three have blue pigment: Nessaea, Graphium, and Papilio.) Every puppy deserves to experience a ball pit! I am now surprised that ball pits for dogs are not a marketed thing. I wondered if the caterpillar onesie was something you'd had for a while, or a previous project you'd made, or something you acquired for The Reveal - talk about perfect thrifting coincidence!

I didn't even think of my rug going with this outfit! And I've made a few pairs of shoes like them and I pretty much put them on to film the video and then they sit on display looking pretty and not being worn because I'm also terrible I'm heels! I'd love to say I could make a blue rhinestone pair of wings but I'm not sure I'll be ready to make anything on this scale again for a while. Totally worth it though!

My daughters danced in The Nutcracker for many years and my oldest was The Butterfly in The Waltz of the Flowers once she graduated to soloist. Your video reminded me of her. You should look into adult ballet classes, you look like you have potential! I love the butterfly costume, it’s beautiful!!! And your dogs are adorable!!! I have cats and I‘ve tried to do crafts around them, it looks like dogs are about as much fun as cats are when it comes to crafts!!!

Aww thanks! I'm a figure skater which has some overlap with ballet so that where that came from. The puppy knows to run straight into his playpen in my sewing room because he's not as well trained as Emmie is to be allowed to roam free without chewing on anything important. I've pulled my Cinderella dress out of his mouth more than once, pure chaos!

I love how the dress, wings and shoes came out 🥰 miss twisted has made wings with fishing poles as base (similar to your tent pole bases), she used a backpack to make a base to attach them to. Maybe it’s something for you as well?😄

Fishing poles are just as springy so that's a good idea too! I didn't want strap showing with my strapless dress but a backpack is a good idea too
