The technology is amazing, but as to being able to identify the target area, a conventional light with its large hot spot is preferable. However, I was greatly impressed by the under water shot! The best use of this technology may be in dive lights! Well done video, as always.

@Robbie1075
@Robbie1075 2 жыл бұрын
At the distances this light is intended for, you won't be able to identify anything in the target area with a conventional LED or xenon torch with reflector. With this LEP technology, you won't be able to identify anything outside of the hotspot target area, but that's the point, I think. I do agree that this technology looks like it would work great for dive lights. Seems it would be and to cut through the water pretty good. And I can only imagine how the technology has advanced since you made your comment. I do love the laser torches, but I need more spill in my torch so I'm looking into a Noctigon or Emisar torch. Probably the Emisar dt8.

I simply unscrewed the inner ring that holds the red filter glass in; then I fine-Sharpie traced two circles of frosty whitish plastic--flat pieces from a two gallon Zephyrhills water jug; scissored them into circles; then I locked those two white disks into the filter house by screwing the inner in ring back inward over them. Now, the beam is quite tame and flooding. In the middle of the flood, there's a yellowish rectangular patch.

I just got mine and it is all it's supposed to be. It will not provide the wide useful beam of the Astrolux or those huge throw lights but it's not supposed to either, it's a small light and only has 500 L but it is more concentrated then any other light. It's pretty cool. I can't imagine where the flashlights will be in ten more years of progress but now that they are using the digital world to make light beams, it should take off like crazy. A light that is made just like this, but in one of those large formats would be killer.

I bought one at the end of last december, I figured it to be better to spend my money on instead of fireworks. I love it! It is obviously not an allround usable flashlight but from a technical point of view I love it. I also bring it when I go paragliding, when I ever get in trouble I can signal easily for help even during the day. For everything else I got an awesome TM03 that also has an impressive lightoutput for it's size. Thanks for the review, this video convinced me to get one back then.

Past that you start to see better but not wide its very tight. About 1foot wide at 30ft. Its pointless to walk and try to see things itll just wiggle everywhere. Great , Matt ! As an old timer , I have over 370 antique and old flashlights and lanterns ... no apologies .... a sickness ! The "flashlight" was named so in it's earliest renditions because the BULBS were prone to Flashing Out at the most inoppertune time ... early bulbs had carbon coated thread , quite fragile then other itterations of filaments . Today , LEDs rarely "flash out" ..... MATT , YOU NEED TO CARRY THE BALL AND RENAME THE UNDERAPPRECIATED FLASHLIGHT (the Brits call 'em Torches) and bring it into the 21st Century ! A Fan.

I just bought the best off road bike light in existance, the Cat Eye Volt 6000. It uses a COB to produce at least 6000L max CONTNUALLY, for an hour. They manage this continued strength with an included active cooling fan. The light offers several different strengths and run times all of which are under rated if anything as Cat Eye is a high end Japanese manufacturer. The cable is very robust and the power bank is massive by todays standards. Probably a battery of 12 cells which is unappealing from a light weight obsessed bike consumer view point but this kind of performance is unmatched. The light is completely a flood. lighting up the entire area you happen to be cycling and scares both drivers and pedestrians alike. It often gets comments.

I have large assortment of lights including a modded BLF GT. My go to light? A Convoy L6 with all the mods and high drain batteries. Perfect compromise of flood and throw to make it the ultimate utility work light I couldn’t think of a better law enforcement light. For serious search and rescue the BLF GT 70 is very good with needed spill, but tight beams can miss things, so you need to pick the right tool. You wouldn’t use a thrower in a forest and you wouldn’t use a flood to spot a coyote across a field.

Matt, Good day. Thanks much for demonstrating W30 LEP. Some high end car manufacturers, in EU have started using LEP technology, with reduced effect (MOT restrictions, equ: to DOT) Some DIY guys in India have retrofitted LEP embedded headlights (against the Law, of course) to their cars. Such headlight assembly is more prevalent for sale in the Far East. I am amazed at the throw (though narrow) with an amazing low Lumens eg: 500LM ! And the reflected beam off the surface of water. I have not seen this phenomenon at any time. The most promising exhibit was your TL ceiling lamp diffuser. That made a fantastic difference in perimeter illumination. Bravo. The 21700 with a built in charging unit with charging/ full charge indicator is great @ 5100mAh. An ambitious thought... can we not embed the LEP unit in 2D MAGLITE ? of course, you can. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Yeah it is definitely cool but serves no real practical purposes with that tiny spot beam. You cant really use it for searching for something. Couldnt light your way walking through the forest and couldnt use it to work on a car. Its basically just a toy.

A true lightsaber! Our boys in China knocked it out of the park with this technology. Now, I approve of this existing, but at the same time don't plan on getting one, for much the same reason why I don't plan on purchasing a pocket rocket or coke can blaster: I and the average flashaholic have absolutely no use for it. It's simply too much throw to be usable. This is the kind of device you need to use alongside a magnifying device to take full advantage of, like binoculars or a telescope (come to think of it, this attached to a telescope would be rad). If anything, LEP is the type of tech you'd use for a spaceship's headlights. Outer space is a big pond for this shark to splash around in.

Having seen this close up in person, I still say it should come with a user age limit or warning. It's an incredibly cool flashlight that is more of a laser than a flashlight. It could permanently damage the eyesight of a person or pet. But used carefully, I think it's amazing! Great video, Matt. I like the way you are putting the little flashlight pictures next to your beamshots now.

The clear diffuser seemed to work pretty well, but when you had the light shining normally, it was just too concentrated, and in my opinion, we had too much contrast between what was in the light and what was not. This was very interesting, and I watched the whole video all the way through.

Since it throws SO FAR, and too small of a beam to be practical at less than way out there, clamp it to a ball head on a tripod to lock on to far targets. Oh, now we need another tripod under a telescope or camera with a big zoom. Ooh, ooh, both on the same tripod with the ability to line them up together. 🥴🤓

Matt, buy you some Roscoe 101 diffusion gel and cut a ring and affix (2 or 4 very small drops of cyanoacrylate and adhere the diffusion ring) it to the front to gain some halation. Or cut out the red filter and replace it with clear acrylic and sandwich the 101 between the lens and the filter.
