Hello, Brian. Another great video. The rocks are all the rage in my little town. We have gotten forwards from a couple state parks asking folks not to place them in parks. The paint, fixative, etc can leech into the ecosystem. Also there is the thought that folks may take plain rocks from parks to paint, which also would not be good. We want to leave our special places as natural as possible. Our town emphasizes using only purchased rock. One of our mom n pops keeps them in stock and I think one of the big box DIYs does, too. So, we place them in town squares, staffed historic sites, libraries, etc. W-W Rocks on Facebook. Safe journeys!

My understanding is that the painted rocks are part of a project to spread a bit of joy to others. The hash tag is to a Facebook page where the hider hopes you will post a picture of the rock in its new home, along with clues to others to find it. So yes, please do take it to a new location. Many of the rocks are painted with inspirational messages. I believe the Rock movement was started as a school project in Bremerton, Kitsap Co... Cheryl

Brian...I have what's called a "hybrid" kayak. It's an inflatable with an aluminum bow & stern. It's 13 feet, but folds down to the size of a suitcase. That way I can easily transport it in the trunk of my car. 9 air bladders to inflate, so *IF*...there's ever a leak (none in the several years I've had it) you won't sink. It's rather expensive at around $600, but well worth it if you have limited space to store it. /Safe journeys, my friend!

Western Idaho literally sat in smoke from mid-July through today (although it's getting better now). There were fires all around us and since I live in Boise, which is somewhat of a valley, almost every day was gray. The fires were really bad in California, Oregon, Eastern & Northern Idaho, and Montana too. We had a range fire in the foothills set by some child, but that was the only one that came close to us. We'll hope that next year is better....

I carry a AIRIS SPORT INFLATABLE KAYAK in my van. Not cheap, but directionally stable and rigid when inflated. The less expensive offerings, with flat bottoms, will have you spending all your on water time trying to keep it going in the direction you want to go.

Inflatable or hard shell kayak? I own a Sea Eagle inflatable. It's relatively inexpensive (around $200). It can be easily stowed inside your van so you can maintain your stealthy look. The cons are that it doesn't track (steer) nearly as straight as a hard shell. Also, inflating, deflating and packing it up can be a bit time consuming .

Yeah :) get a kayak, then you can paddle on lake Palestine if you ever drop through TX for a visit. We also plan to get kayaks pretty soon after we move. We leave for PacFire in a couple of days :) drumming and didging on the beach for fire dancers will be a nice change from all the packing. That giant guitar was pretty cool. Man the fires have been really bad this year, sad to see how wide spread they are. Oh yeah, painted rocks is a thing for sure, we found that one at Cougar lake where we met up, and now I'm starting to do them too :) I think it's a fun way to brighten somebody's day, and leave a gift of art behind. Check FB for pages where you can post photos of the rocks you find, just type in the # in the search. Some actually say to take them or leave them some where else on the bottom, some just have a #. I started a TX FB group ( #TPR) since we are about to move, there are a ton of rock groups on FB. Safe travels getting to the sugar beet harvest. I hope you get out of the smokey area soon.

Stacy Babb I'm planning on a lot of canned soups, quick pastas like Lipton noodles mac'n'cheese. Plus big pots of spaghetti- so I can eat on for several days. Canned veggies and fruit. Some lunch meat and cheese for sandwhiches. Oatmeal, cereal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage. English muffins, bagels, bread, etc. I only have a medium size cooler (ice) so I'm very limited on perishable foods. I have a small propane grill and cook stove I plan on using. My plan is to precook some items like bacon, sausage, hamburger, chicken, etc at supper time for the next days breakfast and lunch. I'm hoping there are pick-nic tables and the weather is fairly nice for Sept. Do you know what piling hard you will be working at? I'll be at Kimberly about 15 miles away from the Drayton camp. I'm scheduled to check-in 9/27. Still waiting on Al at Express to email me the directions to the camp. Currently I'm finishing up my season at Yellowstone NP. Leaving here 9/25. I'm a little concerned on the laundry situation there. I bought a pair of basic low cost mechanic style coveralls to help keep my jeans and shirts somewhat cleanish from the Red River Valley dirt/mud. See you there in a few days.

I don't know what type of kayak you are looking for or brand, but Walmart carries the Lifetime Tamarack and Tahoma sit on top styles. The Tahoma is about $60 cheaper at around $225. It is the same footprint as the tamarack which is $278 i think. It is 10' long and it tracks very well and it even comes with a paddle. Weighs 50 lbs. Watch Mobbin outdoors on KZbin to get an idea of what it looks like and some things you could do to it if you want to fish out of it. I will send you some pictures of mine and what I have done to mine.
