Soo I'm picking up my first ever skunk in the next few days can anybody give me any info or tips like what I need to buy or home care cuz I'm extremely excited and I know I'm over looking stuff or forgetting things

First, congrats on your first skunk!!!🦨 A few tips…they like to go to the bathroom in a corner. Corner litter pans have worked quite well for my skunk. Second, they have extremely keen senses of smell. Don’t forget and leave any snacks laying around including in a pocket or bag. They will find it and if necessary create a hole/dig to get it. Sometimes they like to fake nibble at your toes…wearing slippers is the simple solution 😉. Lastly, they are one of the coolest pets!! Enjoy every second of it! Very fun question! Marv is named after my Grandpa, Marvin. He introduced me to exotic animals when I was a child and is responsible for my passion and love for them! I have always wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro since I was a child and in 2014-15 we did. Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo are the 3 volcanic cones that make up that mountain range. Kibo is actually the same as Kilimanjaro. Quilliam was inspired by a long time follower of this channel…thanks Michael Sanchez!!! Rascal and Nova don’t have quite as good stories, but I liked those names and they seemed fitting for their personality!

@@AdventurousHeartRachelNagle: That is awesome! :) I usually name my animals with a significant story (even my Build A Bears and such!) so that I can tell people a story when they see them. ^_^ My skunk is another story; I was lucky enough to adopt him from an owner whose disabilities got so influential on their health that they were not going to be able to care for him properly any longer. They are considered family, and I was happy to help! Whenever we are out with him, we try to make sure his previous human gets a chance to see him and sometimes even hug/love on him. He came with a name, but I added one more letter to it because of my perception of how it should be spelled... but it is also Japanese, and the translation for it if you use the Kanji characters means "Sun Fragrance" or "Sun Scent" or a few variants of that. :) I figure it is appropriate for a skunk, no!

Great question...yes, in states where it is legal to own skunks, people will breed and raise skunks in captivity. Laws change by state, but in Ohio for example, it is illegal to take a skunk from the wild and raise it as a pet. You must purchase a captive born skunk and obtain a permit to own one, which must be renewed annually. A permit is also required to breed skunks.

Most kitten/cat harnesses should work well. My favorite has been one like this: www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/good2go-black-kitten-harness-and-lead-set I have found that my skunk doesn't love when I put my fingers under his chin to put the neck portion of the harness on, so I take a short piece of rope, and loop it through the webbing where the buckle is. This essentially lengthens the harness when I put it around his neck. Once it is buckled, I remove the rope. Laws vary by state; however, to my knowledge catching a wild skunk and making it a pet is illegal in most places. In fact, owning skunks aren’t allowed in many states. If it is allowed, like it is in Ohio, then you have to apply for a permit and renew it every year. Buying and training a captive born skunk would be best, and most of them are descented. I have heard that in other countries they don’t descent their pet skunks, and as long as you treat them with respect, they don’t spray their owners.
