Nice to see you guys are back in VT. I hope you get some skiing in before Spring. Looking forward to seeing what work you'll do on the property next.

What a delight to see you move your RV onto home base! Very happy for you both. Matt, this is Bobbi from the 2021 virtual RTR. I refer new nomads to your basic solar class regularly! Thank you again for putting that together for the community! Best wishes in your new adventure in VT!

Hey Bobbi - long time no speak! I really enjoyed that basic solar presentation, and from the comments on the video, it sounds like other people did too! Hope things are going well with you.

Y'all are hardcore, living in your camper in Vermont in the winter! At 65 I prefer the south. Since you no longer have your panels on the RV I would be putting up a carport type structure to protect the roof in that weather. Good luck with your property and oh yeah, you might want to make friends with that Sasquatch I saw in the woods! Lol jk.
@bryanstaten55852 жыл бұрын
Also I've been meaning to ask, do you know the thickness or mills of the tpo roofing material is they replaced on your roof?
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
So far we love the winters! If we tire of them.. the RV has wheels and we can head south! Unfortunately, no, we don't know the thickness of the tpo material.

Gosh, it's so beautiful. But yeah, with all those gorgeous trees, keeping the panels in the sun may be a challenge - but one I'm sure you'll meet. You two seem to be excellent planners and problem solvers. You made me want another cup of coffee to warm up after all your snow! LOL - good to see you back.
@RossReedstrom2 жыл бұрын
Nah, best way to warm up is shoveling the snow. Then a cup of coffee!
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
@thizizliz Yes, in this location trees will shade the panels somewhat. Eventually though we will clear the house site from trees and then will be able to move the RV up there and then trees shouldn't shade the panels.
@thizizliz2 жыл бұрын
@@RossReedstrom It surely does! Not here in the high desert; it melts on driveways and roads & lasts a little longer on our yards. After living in Minnesota for 13 years, I'm thrilled not to own a snow shovel.

The Mud Season. Never heard of it.
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
Mud season around here can be brutal, and based on what we've heard from our neighbors, this year's was one of the worst in our area. There were a couple of days when 4WD and high clearance were needed to get out of here. In fact, one morning by 9am I had towed out a box truck AND a 4WD SUV with our tractor. Both were buried deep, right up to the axles.
@n2cycles2 жыл бұрын
If you remove WD bars you put more weight on the rear axle for traction
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
It's true, that would have helped traction.

What are yall planning to do about emptying tanks, especially the black tank in the near future?
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
We have a walk through of exactly how we're managing all our utilities, including our fresh, grey and black tanks in our latest blog post: www.adventurousway.com/blog/mud-season-2022#off-grid-rv-living

@@AdventurousWay What are your intentions before your septic is set up? I apologize if it's in the article and missed it. I ask because we're doing the exact same things yall are doing, only your months ahead of us. I just got my sawmill assembled. First cuts in a week or two.
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the new sawmill! The first cuts are amazing so relish the experience! For septic, we found a local septic pumping service who are going to pump our grey and black tanks once per week. Given we're mainly showering at a local gym, we could easily last 2 weeks on our tanks but are choosing to have them pumped weekly so we know we always have some capacity in case of emergency. Speaking of which, as a backup we bought a 50 gallon gravity flow bag from Andax Industries and a macerator pump. If necessary, we can dump the tanks via the macerator pump into that bag, and then dump it either at a local campground or even in a septic clean-out port at a neighbor's house. We're hoping we won't need to go this route, but it's there as a backup.

Loving all your videos! What brand of new tires did you put on your truck? I’m going to need new tires on my F150 for similar use, and am curious. Thank you.
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
Tire choice is often a contentious issue but we're running BFGoodrich KO2 T/A tires. We've used these on the truck for the past 4 years and been very happy with them - comfortable, good for towing, durable and good traction in mud & snow. If you want to know more about the new wheels and tires we just installed last month, you might like our blog post about it: www.adventurousway.com/blog/f150-mb-legacy-wheels

Not familiar with mud-season where you are located. (though I do know about mud-slide season in N. Cal.). Does this mean you will need to pave your drive eventually, when you’ve moved into your new house? BTW, the land is gorgeous in snow and sun.
@AdventurousWay2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joan! And yes, the driveway at the moment is just the sub-base. We left it like this because we'll be moving big machinery and vehicles up and down it for the next couple of years as we build, so we're waiting for the construction to be completed before putting the top surface on. We haven't decided what we'll use for the top surface yet as there are a few options - no rush though, we have a couple of years to figure it out!
