An honor society that is national accords medical schools. Only top medical students in their class are admitted.

Technically yes, but it's become an increasingly subjective outcome with more Pass/Fail mechanisms and subjective opinions factoring into grades etc. Generally, those in AOA are very good students, but there are plenty of great doctors who were never AOA members. Its a nice feather in a student's cap but it won't make or break your career.
