So by default the neglect anything related to deeds. Also there was at least a good good portion (in sense of amount) of the Sahaba who viewed it as Kufr. Do you have any report of a Tabi‘ie reporting something different? Or even a sahabi? Akhi I just got furious when I read „majority“ while knowing that over the centuries many were actually misguided individuals who especially in these topics should be given any attention

I'm not that old but if I had to give and advice to the youth I would say leave football. Don't watch it, don't check scores, don't check news, just leave it totally. Treat it liek it was haram. Once you have done it you will realize how ridicolous people are who watch it and get emotional about it and waste their time.
