We get a lot of questions from people who want to learn more about #Islam and are thinking of become a #Muslim. What books should people read? Where should they go to find a resource person and mentor to help them on their journey? What if they live in an area where there aren’t many #Muslims? How do they deal with doubts and questions that persist in their mind?

Alhumdulilah, when I embraced Islam in October 1992 there was no Internet available. I had to study and books and decipher literature written by I.P.C.I. There was no conversion because I had already renounced Christianity months earlier. Islam was clearly the best option for a person who only wanted to worship 1 God without any confusion. Prior to my Shahada in 10/92. I left my childhood faith of Christianity because of lack of a clear explanation for who to worship. God or his creation ? No preacher I knew how to explain its concept without ending with the words " JUST BELIEVE BROTHER ". Islam allowed me to keep my childhood faith without making Jesus Christ a god and God a man. So those of you who have the Internet are fortunate and blessed.

Elhamdulillah this is the case for most people in your position. JazakAllah Khair to all reverts for all the hardship and strife they endure and the effort they put in to learn and practice the deen properly

Well, brother, that's very good that you embraced Islam but there was Internet in 1992 and it came in 1989 and so it was made public. Please don't mind my words because I was only telling. But for sure books are way better than the internet because there are many distractions on the internet and obviously too much Internet is actually harming the body.

@@Scorpionking_2024 there was no mistake made. I was not forced, cohearst or fooled. In fact I'd still be Christian if not for the concept of the Trinity unexplained and non conceivable in my opinion.

@@rafayshakeel4812 brother the internet was still in the process of development in 1992 but its true the concept had already been thought of by 1992. The way we see internet graphics & it's way of communication today, had not yet made it this far at that time. There were a host of videos that were informative. But it was a careful study of a basic theological concept that lead me towards Islam. That concept, for me, had been lost in my new understanding of what Christians were asking me to believe as a thinking adult and not as a person who JUST BELIEVES without giving it a logical conclusion.

Zahid Alam there’s so much I could say to you right now. But I just pity the arrogant imbecility coming from you that you proudly take for knowledge and wisdom. I recommend you read a book at all. Anything that can help you think and interact with other humans more adequately. Blessings

Chris Chris I’m just reacting to his discourse. I’ve read the Quran and non-scriptural texts, Islam is too ritualistic and self-contradictory. I like to explore how people arrive to their beliefs, and subsequently justify maintaining them. But, in any case, I don’t really need religion to understand wrong from right and maintain a relationship with God

"It is not our responsibility to follow other human beings. It is our responsibility to respond to God's message. So our aim is to find God and his message and apply that into our own lives, given our own conscience. It may often mean ignoring what other people are saying because they might be sayign things that fit well with their own consciences but do nto fit well with our own. We have to be true to our conscience in trying to approach God and finding his revelation. Case in point, you may dealing with a muslim who is set in some cultural ways from another part of the world and a personf rom somewhere else may find it very difficult to adopt to that particular culture. You can reject that culture and STILL embrace God's revelation." Words of wisedom. On the day of judgement, we will be accoutable for our OWN deeds and consciences. You can worship God from anywhere in the world. Your socio-economic culture does not matter. Islam is fluid. It all comes down to your personal connection with God because in the end of the day, that is exactly what you will be judged upon for on the Day fo Judgement. Verily, Allah SWT is All Just and All-Knowing.

the thing that discourages me when it comes to converting to Islam is that it's mainly Arabic based. To me this makes it hard to approach, also learning to do the 5 prayers is tough on it's own.

Great advice. Christians have the Alpha Course with lunches or dinners and RCIA (6 months course to be a Catholic). These days don't ask anyone. Simply ask the Internet ! Lots of free talks and lectures on youtube.

My advice to non Muslims who want to know about Islam is the life of the Prophet Muhammad in that the Qur’an was revealed in 23 years and captured the actions of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The Qur’an becomes easy to understand once you study the life history of the Prophet SAW.

Please, please, please, read the Quran, hadiths, and sunna before making any commitment or judgments about Islam. True Islam must be based on these writings. I recommend you also watch Debates by Mr. Shamir with Jay Smith, Nabel Quarishi, and David Wood. These debates may address any nagging or hard questions you have. You should also read and refer to the Old and New Testament as the Quran instructs. May God bless you in your search for truth!

It was so painful to watch this installment of LQS. Here in the States as in many Western Countries, affiliation with a Faith is little more than driving into a different parking lot on Sunday. I never get the idea that many view a change of religion as anything beyond a change of rituals and nomenclature. For myself, following and growing as a Muslim has required of me a fundamental shift in how I see the world and my conduct in it. Its definitely not for everyone's tastes.
@alyzak.8997

The same is true in muslim majority countires and infact the rest of the world, buddy. It all comes down to the individual and their personal commitment. I know many americans and folks from other western countries who take religion very seriously and many who don't. I can confidently say the same for people from the middle east. It's not about your cultural background or your geographical location. Connection with Allah SWT is internal and spiritual. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss people as having a shallow understanding of religion just because they're from the West. Many, if not most, people from muslim majority countries view Islam as nothing beyound rituals and nomenclature. They lie, cheat and have no moral compass but still brag about being 'good muslims' because they crossed off the rituals checklist e.g. namaz, zakat and fasting etc. What you are describing is merely human behavior. Not particular to any country or even a specific religion. Religion and tastes xD Nice one.

Musa Yusuf no but he explicitly said to follow his sunnah and be with the jamaa. The Quran explicitly tells you to follow the words and sunnah of rasula SAW in many places. If the prophet tells you something with respect to the deen then you do so . The early muslims called themselves this as well. The only people who called themselves otherwise were people who literally deviated from the mainstream like the Shia

Here are the real concrete facts for a Westerner considering Islam. All music is haram and therefore all movies and TV shows are haram. Beethoven and Chopin? Haram! You'll have to get rid of your pet dog unless it's a guide dog and whenever to talk to a woman who isn't a family member you have to act like a freak and "lower the gaze" and refuse to be in the same room as her. This is the truth.
