I think that Kampf has a really good point about analytics that the Partner Manager kinda missed;, there has to be a certain point where you turn that information off and trust your creative instincts. All this data an quantification tells you how AN audience reacts, but it won't tell you YOUR audience reacts - YOUR audience being something that you slowly build and curate as you grow as a channel. A large sloping graph can be super misleading, and leads to second-guessing instincts. If you chase the algorithm down to its bitter end, then you get stuff like those creepy bootleg children's videos and clickbait. That's the exact opposite of creative, organic content. I think the manager tried to counter Kampf's point of "oh, no! This can be useful," but in this case it's a matter of youtube needs to be mindful of that point just as much as Kampf was of hers.

I completely agree! I've had the same kind of issue in the past with website analytics where I am spending so much time creating and customising reports that I would of been better off just creating way more content for my site. The over on the dashboard is really nice and I am a sucker for analytics but it can definitely be overwhelming and addictive/time consuming! :)

Exactly what I was thinking as I watched this. Data can be useful, but I don't decide what to create based on data. I create what I am passionate about, and I don't just decide to make a video on something because I think it'll get lots of views (that seems rather clickbaity to me). Sometimes they're the same and sometimes not, but the videos I choose to create aren't because of numbers. I do them based on content. And some data is more useful to me than others. It's nice to have all the features, but as creators, I think we have to choose judiciously which data we pay close attention to and which is not so important to us personally. We could sit and sift through data day after day, but I think a better use of our time is creating more content.
@AmericasComic

@@TruthificationChronicles I don't know if this is a clear example, but I kinda think of it like this; Let's say you're a new creator and your "voice" is that you really love cats. But you're new, and suck at optimization so you make a video called "Pets" and you inadvertently attract a lot of dog lovers, who bounce off the video immediately because they're not about cats. This would cause a huge downward slope, that would mask what is possibly "your" audience of loyal cat lovers who loved your video, an audience that would grow and the type you'd want to have. What's communicated in the data is that you have bad optimization, but the data doesn't really have anything interpreting that to you. As far as you can tell, what's being said is that there's not an audience out there for cats and you might as well give up a part of your authorial voice to go for a more general "pets" video.

I totally agree. Although analytics helped me turn my channel around! I went from 200 subs in 6 months to 3000 in the following 6 months. I went back to just creating content without using the analytics and my numbers have stayed pretty consistent with my channel growth (almost at 6000)!

+EvanAndKatelyn, Laura, and KZbin Creators [Creator Academy] - Well, the one video I had that went viral didn't have playlists. I've tried a variety of techniques and my videos are not reaching millions of views like that one that shockingly went viral on my channel. I just don't feel there is a "formula" because if that were true all my videos would have gone viral just as the one where I did absolutely nothing special to it than to just post it (that's it, nothing special done and it went viral with a TON of engagement). So here I've got videos after it where I used techniques mentioned by you all and others and the traffic is low by comparison along with the engagement is next to none. Can anyone explain that? Because seems to me methods of all kinds do not really work and I just got on luck's good side on that one video that went viral where I did NOTHING special but post it. It didn't even have a custom thumbnail. I logged in, rushed through the title and description and tags and hit the publish button. And to my surprise my video went viral with no idea why and my earnings increased along with my subscriber count skyrocketed. So I hear you and many talking about methods to help, but they do not work for any of my videos; that's been proven. Methods folks talk about only get me a low view count and little to no engagement. I keep looking at my viral video stats and nothing explains to me why it went viral, why people are so talkative on that video and why so much ratings doing no methods at all. I cannot replicate that video's success because I have no idea why it went viral and it's frustrating especially when I see videos talking about trying to help increase engagement and all that prove to not be the answers for me. Just look at my channel. I have views and speckles of comments here and there on a small handful of videos, but the one that went viral with over 2 million views, look at how active that is and the thumbs up and down ratings even though people cannot see the count, is in the high thousands and the comments...look at all those folks talking. None of that kind of activity on my other videos even after it.

10 Main take-away tips for creators: 1. (0:55) Show publish schedule times in channel banner to help user know when to expect new content 2. (2:14) Good channel banner shows your face, publish schedule and you can read on a mobile device 2. (2:57) Custom thumbnails are very important to get people to click your videos (Try use consistent branding on them to identify your videos) 4. (3:43) Add different playlists on your channel page 5. (4:38) Use different keywords/phrases someone might type in the KZbin search bar in your video title and any relevant words/phrases that don't go into the title add them in the first 1-3 sentences in the description area. 6. (5:05) Have end screen links to subscription button/videos/playlists especially on old videos too 7. (6:18) How to look at important analytic metrics (use last 90 days) 8. (6:34) Watch time shows engagement with the video 9. (6:42) Spikes in watch time on the overview page normally occur on newly published videos (can click the analytics to see which specific videos) 10. (7:35) Audience retention helps to identify when users leave a video, if they like it and the views are more flatline for most the video length and if there any parts people end up rewatching you'll see a spike again.

I learned two new things... I could list my Playlists as individual horizontal bars on the homepage (I just had them lumped together under a "Playlists" section on the homepage). I also never thought to add Playlists to my end screen instead of individual videos. I already knew I had to update my banner. I'll have to add my face (to make it more personal) and also an upload schedule. I should do that soon.

I just want to say thank you SO MUCH for maintaining channels like this and Insider, and putting them in our faces on the dashboard, so even us microscopically small under-1k club channels can get the insight and knowledge someone in the program might be able to get. I'm very much looking forward to getting to the point where I'm eligible for the partner program! I'm currently sitting at 420 subscribers, but my watch time is no where near where it's going to need to be. I blame that on the one time I got help sharing a video across social media, but didn't find out where it was going to be shared. I'm an English speaking woman who creates art content. I've got about a hundred subscribers from that time I got help who are in Egypt and surrounding area. They watched a time lapse of a cool art piece, probably enjoyed the visuals and the music, but quite likely don't understand me, so when they come back and the video is more involved than just a time lapse (unboxings, reviews, tutorials), they're not going to stay. Definitely learned my lesson there! Target the right audience.

Thanks for the class. I always review photos in thumbnails and recently, I switched to my own style after several attempts. I liked to see the thumbnail with the brand that identifies the Channel, I use our photos as a brand. I try to review the final screens from time to time to bring together subjects related to the video in question or use the playlist in which the video is inserted. I am currently re-editing the videos from four years ago using a more professional program, adding more quality to the video - I have been saving the original footage from that year. I liked to see about the banner. I always pay attention to the statistics but I didn't see the possibility of seeing the public's retentions. (Kiko) 😍👏👏👏🤗

Basically, they didn’t say much more than what I said. Basically theirs no measure on the algorithm side of things for frequency, and they posit on the creative side that the data shows a slight bump from coming back from a break and possibly that’s because it gives people a chance to recharge their batteries

That new dashboard screen just is such a poor use of real estate. Why in the world are our stats relegated to the far right instead of right within view immediately? And why only ONE video??? While I appreciate videos like the one I'm commenting on, they're NOT my priority when I go into my creator studio. That whole section needs to be put somewhere else and my data should go in its place. I really want to see several of my last videos in a quick overview, not just one. Why did you change that? That is soooo counterproductive! I work with a small laptop screen, so screen real estate is a high priority for me. Add to that some vision issues when I get tired, and this new screen is going to have very little value for me. Our priorities appear to be different. So, did you create this new dashboard from what you thought we would want or from what creators actually want? I think you missed, at least you did with this creator when it comes to the main dashboard screen.

I would love to have s meeting. I’m new, but I grew from zero to 110 quickly, but I’m getting stagnant. How do I get a meeting with a partner manager? I want to make this a career, so advice would be sweet. This video is also helpful, but s one on one, to me, ads an opportunity for honesty. Would love to hear back.

You'll need to grow your channel to at least 10K or more before you can access KZbin services. Keep pushing on!

Let's ALL go do that. Change some end screens on some old videos that still get views.

Super informative - thanks. Do you have a video or resource that explains CPM? I ask because a group of us started KZbin 18 months ago and there is a large difference in AdSense payout when we compare our similar length/watch-time videos among our group.
