I felt the same. I wasn't valedictorian, but i was good at school. I did 4 years in college and went into a Ph.D. program for Neuroscience. It was fully funded, and I thought this was what all smart people do, I guess. It was horrible. I looked around and realized all the 'smart' people were struggling financially, regularly mentally abused and overworked by supervisors, and had no clear and secure job prospects after graduation. It was around this time that i realized that learning to apply my discipline and intelligence outside of the classroom into the real world is a superpower. So I taught myself a high value skill, quit my phd, and have been making 6 figs in my pajamas ever since. I've also been studying investing recently. Made some decent money in the stock market so far.

The way I view school is like picking the default class in a video game. It might not be best at specific scenarios, but it provides you with a general well rounded ability. School-wise, they're providing you with a general rounded foundation in a variety of things and depending on where you specialize you might leverage more things over things. *My Experience with School (Pre-College)* I was good at school (i.e. I was in AP and honor classes here & there), but I never took it serious prior to college; I told myself I'd try once getting into college. My senior year of high school I did try to improve. I remember feeling similar and my parents pushed for me to improve my grades and go to college. I tried talking my way out of college with my mom but it didn't work. Funny enough, I didn't even know my high school GPA until after graduating because I never paid attention to it. I ended up graduating with a 2.0 LOL. *College* My interest had always been learning game development and engineering, so I ended up going to one of my state colleges that accepted me for a Bachelor of Arts in Art. I with a major in Art and basically took all the art courses that interested me (i.e. graphic design, sculpting, drawing, ux, etc...). *Graduation* I ended up graduating with a 3.08 GPA and started working full-time as a new grad Area Manager at Amazon (~$60k-$63k USD total compensation) on the Warehouse side during covid. iirc, I wasn't confident with getting a UX/Graphic design job out of college so I selected the Area Manager role since I was already working at Amazon as a Tier 1 Warehouse associate while in school. I did the Area Manager role for ~7 months then internally transferred over to a Corporate Tech role at Amazon building software (non-Software Development Engineer (SDE)); and almost doubled my total compensation (~$105k-$120K USD). _Note: I started self-teaching myself programming after work after ~3-4 months_ *Note* Although technically my Bachelor of Arts in Art isn't exactly related to the jobs that I've had after graduating, I have been able to transfer the problem solving/creative way of thinking that I further developed from my degree in the roles that I've had; and of course the art degree is a bit more related to building software & understanding the UI/UX aspect of things. Up to now I haven't used anything math-wise besides algebra and statistics that I've learnt from school, even in my more software role. However, if I want to work on other teams more AI related and do some game development stuff then I'll need to brush up my math skills. _Side Note: Degree-wise, I'd look into Western Governors University if in the US because you could earn a degree faster and cheaper,

MFA in Creative Writing and MBA grad here; I'm weighing what you're saying, and you're not wrong-it's different now; there are different opportunities that can work well right out of high school, but I don't regret my degrees; I'm definitely more qualified for many jobs than I wouldn't otherwise be qualified for, and I did learn a whole lot. But if your sole focus is money, I would definitely agree and think a little more before going right to college after high school. I waited until I was 25 to start my undergraduate degree...then a few more years after finishing that before going to grad school.

1 - you understand YT metrics because you are good at maths 2 - you are a good dancer because you understand body positioning / movement in relation to a static plane (physics) 3 - you have a techy job because you understand maths and physics and they taught you logic and reasoning, causality and consequences and problem solving 4 - you are able to speak freely on a camera (to no one and everyone) because you are educated and can formulate arguments quickly, proving and disproving at ease 5 - Music is teaching you another language that is sensorial, it is a maths language too though and its physical application is the instrument But yeah...apart from that ...... hahaha Maths is taught to teach your brain how to work in "abstract ways" and in 3 dimensions. Physics is taught so you can see that maths isn't that abstract and that every problem can be broken down to a sum of very small problems. Chemistry is taught because failed physicists need a job too.... You'd be surprised how much of your judgement is forged in the battle of maths and phsyics. Problem with school is that kids are too young to be told that when they are learning, and often teachers are too tired to even entertain trying to pull students up and show them there is a logic to all this "non sense"
@notreallyafamousartist69529 күн бұрын
@@digitellint you don’t have to understand physics to be good at the mechanics that physics cause, I am terrible at ACTUAL physics but I understand the concept of energy distribution in physics which translates to dancing and acting (also combat sports)

A lot of school isn't about the content that you're learning but it teaches you how to problem solve and how to think through things in order to reach conclusions. I think it's needed more than you think it is, especially elementary and high school. And for college there's certain positions you will not be able to get without some kind of a degree.

Ur right about a lot of this shizz. I recommend to people to get out of school as fast as possible because say u graduate at 16. Boom now u get 2 years to work a factory to make 40-50k before ur 18 and now u got options instead of ur peers just not doing anything leaving school with 0$. Which is fine when u got parents with money, but getting to work early is just good for people.

Yo Lord Hec. So I wanted to tell you what happened to my youtube channel cause Im in the same shoes as you. I started my channel back in August of 2022 and it blew up in 2023. In 2023 I made over 57k from KZbin Adsense. However this year, things took a huge turn in March after my income from Adsense went from 5k and 4k in January/February to only 2k a month in March. Ever since March, it's been downward even more and now Im only going to make 22k this year from Adsense after making 57k last year. I dont know what to do because Im in college still but I dont have any job experience and have been getting denied for internships as a tech major. My parents have also always been against me doing KZbin and wanted me to only focus on school. I was honestly going to dropout of college last year after how much I made from Adsense but my parents absolutely insisted I not so I stayed to finish but now I still have no career. I havent had any luck getting a job/internship and my KZbin revenue crashed heavily. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
@LordHecSquadАй бұрын
Sorry to hear and I have a similar story to you, I had to recently get a 9-5 job thinking I'd do KZbin fulltime forever and this year it took a massive hit. Not sure if its the rise of shorts or just the audience growing up but something has definetely shifted. What are your majoring in right now and do you have any money laying around that you can use to invest in a skill?
@LakersParadiseАй бұрын
Yeah I think it's the rise in shorts. I think KZbin changed their algorithm and are now promoting shorts channels more than long form channels. They basically wanna compete with Tiktok. Right now im majoring in Data Science (It's like Data Anayltics stuff) and yeah I have decent money saved up to invest in a skill. I would like to get into IT possibly but I dont know how to go about it. @@LordHecSquad

This ain’t it. I know tons of people that lives are shit because they didn’t go to school after hs. The average person makes more money when they go to school. If you want to KZbin that’s great but a plan b is always a smart move. I’m doing KZbin rn but if I want I can falll back on my masters and make min 100k a year. And that’s a history masters not some tech or bio degree.
@LordHecSquadАй бұрын
I agree and thats why i said, it depends on what your major is and I stated that in the video. This is a fair point. Not saying don't go to school but if I had went to school and pursued the arts it wouldn't have been that useful in terms of employment opportunities from what I've experienced.
@MackmichealsАй бұрын
@ I get that but if you do a simple google search of average pay for trade vs high school vs uni education the numbers jump from like 40-50k per year to 80-100k on average. So the average person will benefit from school. It’s in the numbers. And you may have too you don’t really know.

@ojamagerrits28 күн бұрын
@Mackmicheals sure u can make 100k a year, but u gave up 4-8 additional working years by pursuing your college degree. If u take the average working salary, ur grossing 160-320 grand and gaining 4 to 8 years work experience. I'm not saying what you did wasn't worth it, but you compiled a lot of debt instead of just working. Also I wanna comment about how people who do something normally do not stay at the same pay grade if they're staying in their same work field.
@ojamagerrits28 күн бұрын
@@Mackmichealssorry one more thing, I know a lot of people who went to college and their life is bad too. All I'm saying is that life isn't as simple as go to college vs not going to college. Thomas sowell said, there are no solutions, only trade offs.
