Thank you to Shaykh Hamza Yusuf. Thank you to the two questioners who asked very good questions. I agree: Empathy from kindness, kindness from gentleness and gentleness from Trust. If a child receives these they will develop stable emotional and social conditions and be in a state conducive to learn. I teach children and so many emotional/social/behavioural issues block learning. I think children need suitable "nutrition" just as a plant requires the right nutrition to grow healthily. Parents need to provide that nutrition for their children and equally avoid toxins also. I think religion's traditional role was to support this essential structure of human relationships through the wisdom of teachers - not celebrities or politicians or technocrats (with reference to human rights).
