I'm turning 70 next year, and retired a few years ago from a great paying desk job. We have a comfortable bank balance and no debt, but with the way things have been globally, I've taken on a cleaning job as an insurance policy. I'm using the extra income to increase our preps and to give a little locally to help others. And it feels good on both counts.

Afternoon from Calgary Alberta, in Canada. When I was in my early 20's I ended up on the streets of a small town. Work was scarse and the local food bank was poorly stocked and turned me away as an able bodied young man. So I started to collect pop bottles for the deposit. I used that to by a 24 pack of Bic pens. I went into the business part of town and sold the pens for $1 each. I would buy more pens and collect more cans. I'd go to the local grocery store and ask the manager if I could mop the floors for a bag of apples and other basics. I rallied other kids to do the same stuff and in less than a month we had a huge house rented. We contacted local churches about a need for beds and bedding. 10 mattress showed up that day. We would charge $5 to the street kids for a place to sleep, have a bath. You used the entry fee to fill the fridge so everyone ate, had basic toiletries including sani pads for the girls. He would go as a team to the laundry Mat so everyone had clean cloths. We volunteered at thrift stores for cloths and the like. Poor is a mindset.

Glad to hear your oldest is so responsible and motivated. Sounds like mine. We assist as needed but learning to work and be responsible for your own expenses at a young age is a good thing!

Yuengling… Pottsville Pennsylvania …. Been there many times. They made “icecream” in prohibition times, lol. Yuengling Black & tan is also mighty tasty; a mix of lager and Porter. I might be able to mail you some if none in your area.

💯% with compost. I stop at a few local stores to grab free produce. Some I use for food, others I collect/gather seeds from and the rest goes into compost. I have a great percentage of melon & pepper seeds. Have approximately 40 pounds of good potatoes 🥔 in the garage; wish I had someone local needing some.

I enjoyed your video. New subscriber. The KZbin AI brought me here, sir. So, while people still talk about losing subscribers ( a few of the prepper channels I watch), many are gaining subscribers. The reason is a down to earth tone, and giving information that you know something about. There have been a few preppers I have followed that got out of their lane to give "expert" advice, that I knew was BS. I had to leave that channel, as I thought, well what else are they just pulling out of their butt. Thanks again, felt like we were just sitting on the porch have a chat. 👍

You are right. Even the homeless can afford $9.31 for a package of Newports. I've been country song poor as a kid. Kids won't even keep loose change. I find money at odd places like parking lots. My kids always ask why I pick it up. Because it's money that's why.

Great video Steve. In my twenties I realized more hours = bigger paycheck. Left my indoor job at 40hrs for a landscape job at 60hrs. Then took a construction gig at 90hrs a week. At that point I was making a lot more than my college educated friends, not easy work by any means but very rewarding to work your tail off and know it’s honest. I’m just saying, don’t matter what you do….hours = pay. I have zero sympathy for anyone who complains about money but also doesn’t work a minimum of 60hrs a week. Have a blessed day everyone 😃👍🏻

Make sure your wood is not so deep because your tomato cages will hit the wood and not be deep enough. Raised beds are great. Thank you steve for your wisdom. I definitely can afford your sight. I am A cash guy and not good with cards. I will have my son help me with this situation. I employ 39 people in my DO It best hardware store. I purchased this store in 1995. I am 60 years old and use to paying cash for 99.99 of my transactions. I will be purchasing your books. God bless you and your family Steve. Not to get to crasey but I have never had A bank loan or car loan. My family back me in business and I payed them back. So short story is my credit score is 550 simpley because I have never had A bank loan of any kind at any time. My question to myself over the last 60 years is " do I need it or do I want it" Most likely I answered this question I want it so I never purchased it. So with this strategy I amassed several million dollars in property and I still live with holes in my clothing thinking nothing of it. If you were to run into me on the street you would think I was A homeless person. And I am fine with this.

💯 Agree! There's no excuse because as you said, there are a 1000 ways to make money. What angers me is a lot of females taking the "easy road" if you know what I'm saying...OF accounts and pole work. I tell you what, before I got my VA disability, when I first got out the Army and was having a difficult time finding a good job, I could have easily resorted to stripping but instead I worked scrubbing toilets at a hotel til I worked up to Night Auditor then Manager. I've worked 12 hr 3rd shifts in a factory pounding out mailboxes coming home covered in powdered metal head to toe like the Silver Surfer because I have some morals. Hard work is worth it in the end and the pride you feel no one can take away. All my blood, sweat and tears sure paid off because I was able to pay CASH for my first home and start my own business. I now own three homes. There are no excuses just laziness imho.
