Drove it 17 years and sold it to the young high school boy for $1,500, He checked my oil. air. washed my windows and checked the radiator fluid at the gas station . He always loved that car and was very nice to check it each time I got gas. He was helping that old lady in the hot red Mustang as he sure didn't have to and most gas stations won't do it for you. For the right price, there is a market for these cars. He's found a niche market that few sellers want. He's laid it out, less than $500 net for each car. @@rst90274 those millions of cars being traded in are done so for a reason; they're clapped out and the owners are trying to get rid of them because maintenance is costing as much as a new car payment. They wander around looking for something to fill the gap in their inventory like sedans vs SUV's, pop the hood and make sure it still has an engine, turn it over if they're lucky and then tow it back home for some grease monkey in the back shop who works by himself to try and get them all drivable by the end of the week. Meanwhile the new vehicles I see at work get dinged, bent, scratched, broken into, and their owners look depressed as they pay their very large payments. He always will beat them on price, though, as he bought in when it was cheap ( 13 years ago was at the bottom of the last recession ). He has a gravel and grass lot, a simple building, and that's it. Most new dealers have millions into it, now, to get started. A major dealership? tens of millions, minimum. Why he can do this is (my guess, likely accurate) is that everything is paid off and he owns that little piece of land. Now, you'll get gouged 8% and half a million to get just a piece of land that large. So you literally can't sell for that cheap.

So, it'll 1) make cheaper cars harder to find and/or buy and 2) reduce a dealer's profitability.... meaning lower volume/sales numbers as well as lower profitability per vehicle sold (in addition to just the depressed economy/people as a whole, reducing the market size)

Great content. I purchased a 2001 Mazda MPV for $2,000.00 it had around 137,000 miles it's my daily driver. The dealer says I should get around 300,000 on the motor. I currently have 207,000 on the motor. Never have had anything go wrong with it. I keep it well serviced. The only thing that I have had to fix was the window motor on the drivers side. I also spent $1,200.00 on the paint job. Nothing else. I realize it's not a cool car. But, I'm cool! It does what it was created to do. People loose their identity to a vehicle. " YOU ARE NOT YOUR VEHICLE"! You are a separate, the vehicle is created for you, not you created for it! People pay more for vehicles than they do for things like Health, family and home! It's okay if that's what they want to do. But for us I like to put my money to work for me in places where I can see a return. I also have inherited MOMS 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, so I don't ever plan to purchase another vehicle in the near future.
@c.chavis63146 ай бұрын
Smart! Many don't get the notion that the best daily driver is a paid off vehicle. Why finance $800/mo. on a daily driver so you can show off to everyone. By the time it's paid off, you have over 100k miles, serious depreciation and the car is not the "in" car anymore.

@pollyanna1476 ай бұрын
I do this. Get them smogged in palmdale for $100, even if you delete the light on the reader you still get screwed as you know, could be anything for a failure. 4 lightly used matching new tires, oil change, recharge the a/c, make sure it's safe and reliable and keep it moving. $600 at auction, sell for 2k. CA makes it impossible for working people to buy a legal vehicle but I keep my prices low where I make enough of a profit to keep it moving but affordable for the working class to not get ticketed and towed and harassed.

Hi Brandon, When I see that big sign at a car dealership that reads "CERTIFIED USED CARS," I have to laugh. Many people believe it means the dealership has thoroughly inspected the cars and made any needed repairs. That sign means that all the vehicles on the used car lot are certified as being used. That's a big difference!

It can be. I do the same thing in my area. 3 to 5 cars a year. I try to make $500, $1500 if I'm doing heavy line repairs. I usually make sure everything works and is safe, clean it real good and see what happens. People come and tire kick and want to pay less than I picked it up for before repairs. I usually price at KBB private party middle of the road and people try to cut that in half. Never lost money, but have had to let two cars go for what I had into them.

I've been in several businesses for many years successfully and I really like your presentation which I think is very genuine, for your ethical outlook on business and treating people. What you have going on there, upfront pricing, no bullshit fees, all in the back of my head. Only thing I might do different, I would have more of my service area inside, repair detailing. Primarily for comfort of myself and staff. And if I needed to be it inside I've got a lighting to process cars 24 hours a day. Just put on a second shift. Volume volume. And with a better working environment, I think you get top notch people. First thing I did at my other company was to air conditioned a 10,000 ft² warehouse, I had zero turnover in 5 years. Best of luck continued success brother
