True, Element 3D is extremely fast and I would use it too for simple objects and 3D text, but Cineware is there for more complex stuff like 3D dynamic simulations and other fancy stuff ;)

There are some free apps on iOS/Android, one called Photosynth by Microsoft, that allows you to capture panoramas around you, then it saves it as a spherical mapped image. Use that image as your map for reflection, it works great!

If you hide the plane from Camera, you also hide the shadows casted on the plane. (Unlike AE) You'll need a plugin called Shadowcatcher to hide the plane and keep shadows. But of course there are many ways to do it :) Frischluft is a paid tool I have that works faster at rendering, so I used it. Nothing wrong with Camera Lens Blur.

i thought it curious that if you click the Show Button next to where it Says Cineware Help, it opens C4d Lite. not sure why they would have labels it so but it does open C4D lite that way as a new scene

Was there not an option in Cinema 4D to Hide the Plane from the Camera when Rendering? i thought there was? Also why didnt you go straight for the Camera Lens Blur in AE? When it was added to SE, i have always used it to soften 3D objects, i now wonder if i am doing that wrong?

I only have CS6, which does not have the set to ground plane feature. So after exporting to C4D the coordinates are all screwed up. What can manually do in AE or C4D so world center would be at 0,0,0? Like you said, its driving me nuts ! Thanks

I have a question about after effects cc. I just downloaded it, mostly for the purpose of this. Opened after effects, and decided to test it out with some footage I shot. I imported my footage, and the little loading watch came on for a few seconds. Then, It crashed. So I tried to make a comp. I clicked on the New Comp button, and it showed the box for options. They were already how I wanted. I clicked on create and it crashed. Please help! Im using a imac with 4gb ram, mountain lion. Thank!

Instead of using a camera track, can you buy a camera that has sensors that store the actual movement information in the video? This would be useful if you want more accurate tracks or use it on a blank wall where there aren't any points to base it off of.

Alex Wohlbruck Yeah, the NFL has cameras that do this to live embed graphics into the field. I'm sure they cost several hundred thousands though, so I prefer the tracking method for now.

I followed this tutorial verbatim. I placed some text on a couch but rendering just a 10 second clip is taking FOREVER. I have a MBP full specs and when I do a preview full quality each frame is taking about 7 seconds to render. Is taht normal?

If you are on the latest version of adobe CC, cineware is broken with a bug that causes this workflow to fail :( Hopefully Maxon will release a fix soon.

VinhSon Nguyen Hi Vinhson, I am running into a small issue with the shadows layer on this video. When I duplicated the AO layer and set the multipass to shadow, the footage comes out white. When I changed the blending mode to multiply it looks clean and clear up close but when I scrub back in time and the text is far away the footage becomes dark and pixelated (if that makes any sense). I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any ideas? Thanx in advanced.

Danny Netwirk AO and shadow multipasses aren't the same thing. What are you setting to "shadow", I don't think that's a valid blending mode. The dark pixelation may be due to Cineware trying to give you a low res preview. Are you in Final Render mode, and not Draft?

VinhSon Nguyen Thanks for the response! I really appreciate it. I set the blending mode to my shadow layer to normal and the entire screen turns white. And yes, I am in final render mode. But I did as you said and duplicated the object matte layer and changed the multpass to ambient occlusion and renamed it to AO. And I also changed the blending mode to multiply. I then duplicated the AO layer and renamed that to shadows and set the multipass to shadow. And I get the weird results as I mentioned.

Danny Netwirk Hi Danny, I'm having a hard time following what you're saying because the terminology is wrong. You can't set anything to "Shadow" because "Shadow" isn't a blending mode or matte mode. Saying you set the multipass to shadow makes no sense. Try setting everything to multiply.

Haha you misunderstood me VinhSon Nguyen​. What I am trying to say is, that when I set MY SHADOW LAYER to multiply the footage looks good until I scrub the timeline all the way to the beginning. That's when the comp. Turns black and the text is sort of clear. But when I go back to that certain key frame the entire composition is back to normal. Its very difficult to explain through text. I wish there was some way I could show you what I'm experiencing. If you have any ideas what I'm doing wrong, please share them with me. For the mean time I will go back and do the entire thing over again. Thanks
