First, I know we can't put two solids folders, but can we put zero solids folders? Second-and this is more complicated-is there a way to leave everything in our specific folders as-is? So, for example, if I run Tidy and then I add some subfolders in there that aren't defined in the JSON, will they be overwritten? That's an issue I have with my current solution for this. Sometimes I'm more granular, but then I just add stuff to my project and I can't run the script again because it'll undo what I did into a simpler structure. I'm sure tags would help, but I like to keep things as lean and simple as possible. Third, I also like what you've mentioned in another comment about keyword matching. I was thinking about that yesterday. I would love to have a solution for sequential stuff like your Lightning movies here where it could see there are multiple video files with the same name and a number and know that it can put those into a folder. Keep it up, this is already a great replacement for what I'm currently using.

The conundrum with "zero" solids folders is that, without one defined, After Effects will just create one whether you like it or not. But that could also be set with an Assets folder and the flag: "isSolidsFolder": true Currently, though it would just put the solids at the root of that folder, so I can think about this scenario, but maybe I can sort solids, nulls, adjustment layers within whatever that solids folder it. Subfolder handling gets complicated, and if there is a weak spot in this (and any similar) utility, it is this. It introduces so many ways to break things that the detriments start to outweigh the benefits. One idea would be to add a character flag to preserve folders. Like an asterisk (customizable in the prefs). E.g. "Joe's Folder*" wouldn't be touched, and perhaps anything in it. (or whatever customizable character you'd like to use.) These are all great thoughts and I'll work with them to make a better product. Thanks Joe!!

@@graymachine I was asking about the zero solids thing because I use a no-solids workflow so I don't ever have any except on the rare occasion where you absolutely have to (and even then I usually swap them out using my own nulls from my NoSolids script). I would just leave After Effects's default in that case, i.e. never define a new solids folder. Maybe that makes more sense? As for the other requests, I wonder if maybe there could be a preference where you could check to see what folders exist already and exclude those? I understand if it's getting into the weeds and that you can't make a tool that 100% fits every user. In any case, I'm glad if I've helped you with my suggestions and I'm sorry if I've burdened you with them too! 😂

I had a question. If I’m manually adding folders (let’s say product 1 images, product 2 images), and I hit Tidy, what’s the default action for them? Do they each need to be added to the code, or tagged, or would they just be assigned to a folder (which would probably need to be assets)? Apologies if that’s a dumb question

If it's not a render/main/precomp (which I'll probably just rename to 1st, 2nd, 3rd tier or something), you'd need to tag specific items to go in there. A feature that I had at one point was "keyword" matching, so it would sort any sort of matchname in the comp name, e.g. "Product 1" in your case could sort all comps with Product 1 in the name. I'd like to add that back in as a simpler alternative to tagging.

Thx for ur great tutorial. I recode for more useful. Now u can control value and min max random. seedRandom(index, true) //create null name "Text Control" and add 2 slider effect, rename it to "Min" and "Max" min = thisComp.layer("Text Control").effect("Min")("Slider"); max = thisComp.layer("Text Control").effect("Max")("Slider"); a = value+[min, min, min]; b = value+[max, max, max]; random (a, b);
