0:54. Every time I see this stretch of mountain, I always remember of one of the scenes showing of Takumi trying to adapt to the new engine in the second stage.

This is one of the best scenes in Initial D, Takumi shows what skill can do, how an inferior car can be manhandled to be almost mythical. Bunta's Impreza shows what skill can do with a great machinery. Michael Schumacher can beat his opponents in an inferior car ('94, '95, '00 even '97 to an extent) just because his ability to muscle the car in the mid-corners but when he was given the F2002 and F2004 he almost singlehandedly made the sport boring because of his domination.

You should swap '97 and '00. It was against Villeneuve that Schumacher had a massively inferior car against, whereas from the second half of '99 onwards Byrne just completely outclassed Newey.

I think there's a logical explanation: Takumi has never seen his father's risky driving (he didn't even realize that he was driving a modified AE86, or even that it was an 86, until Okiyama Wataru told him that the car was not simple and that it had a racing engine), so driving the Impreza was surprising for Takumi. Only later, when he put 2+2 together and realized that only his father could drive recklessly on Mt. Akina -- he understood the whole situation.
