Hi Meaghan, Can I just check if using AEC for a chest x-ray, the mAs is low because the ionisation chambers detect the photons more quickly because the kvp is so high? (We use 125 kvp) just trying to make sure I understand this correctly. Thankyou

Yes high kVp allows us to use low mAs. But also think about your anatomy of focus on a chest, lungs are not very dense and do not need much mAs.

Hi Meaghan, would please explain this concept? I am having hard time to understand it. Thank you Which of the following groups of exposure factors will deliver the least amount of exposure to the patient? A 400 mA, 0.25 second, 100 kVp B 600 mA, 0.33 second, 90 kVp C 800 mA, 0.5 second, 80 kVp D 800 mA, 1.0 second, 70 kVp

To answer this question I would like you to calculate out the mAs for each answer option. Multiply the mA by the seconds = mAs. Then think of your exposure concepts. The question is asking you which set of factors would give your patient the LEAST amount of exposure. mAs is the main controller of patient dose, so a lower mAs would give less exposure. If given an option with high kVp & low mAs that would be the ideal option. Do your calculations and think through the concept!
