acronyms are not helpful, for those who would try the equipment for the first time, it would be a a risk. Even if the law would protect you, what if the person dies, how will it make us feel. If any entity wants to put one in their Building, have a person with the knowledge to run them. Seriously, I would call 911, that's it. You can't get away by just hanging oe of those on your wall.

OP is right, though. The "E" stands for external. Although the important information provided is correct, it would make people trust it more if it didn't have that one inaccuracy.

All the machines should be the same. It is not good enough to say "some machines may do this automatically". For someone facing the stress and panic of dealing with a patient suffering a heart attack it is not good enough for them to worry about whether the machine is an automatic one or whether they need to take further actions.

In a perfect world they would all be the same, but I am a police officer and we have different AED'S than the rescue squad, than the fire dept, than the emergency room. Bit they are all very similar.

AED's are used when an individual suddenly falls into a cardiac arrest. This occurs when a disruption in the heart's electrical activity causes an abnormal heart rhythm, leading to a lack of blood flow to your vital organs. The shock from the AED is used to correct abnormal electrical disturbances causing an irregular heart rhythm, which re-establishes normal heart function. Heart attacks can sometimes lead to a cardiac arrest, but they are not the same thing. The difference is that a heart attack may present warning signs, like chest pains days, weeks or minutes before an event. During a heart attack, the heart is still beating, but blood flow decreases due to a partially blocked or clogged artery.

You do not need to remove jewelry and/or body piercings when using an AED machine, as this can delay giving the first shock. However, to be safe do not place the AED pads directly over metallic jewelry or body piercings.

I'm sorry... how tf does shaving a chest equal saving time, if the chest is that hairy then stop for a second and think, is it smart to take a full 2 mins to shave a mans chest or are charred hair follicles better than dying?

I think the reason for shaving is the pads may not stick and the machine wont proceed for shock unless it sticks correctly.

They should wax the chest. That will wake him up faster than the shock.
