Most underrated character in this show by far. So interesting and I love his chemistry with his brother Aemond. Both of them were so awesome in season 1 and their stories were told exceptionally well in their childhood and adulthood. All hail king Aegon Targaryen second of his name and the rightful heir of the seven kingdoms! His grown up actor is so good.

I just feel sympathy for his character and feel like he's neglected and abused by his whole family tree and always has been through his entire life. It's like he never gets a break and it's no thanks to the wahmen of this show. The writers want the viewers to feel disdain for him.

Totally agree with your description, the show even tried to paint Aemond in a better light by having Luke's death be an accident but when it comes to Aegon is like they just want him to be the worst person in the world with no good qualities or something and I wonder if it is because he's Rhaenyra's direct rival in the story. They really act as if "Aegon has been a villain since he was born" but the showrunners keep insisting that they are making him morally grey rn? Nahh

But it will be interesting if the writers intentionally create such a contrast between the characters in order to show us an unexpected twist with Rhaenyra and her "wise" rule, against which even the slob Aegon will not seem so bad. Ah, dreams...

You're only saying that because the show made it more explicit that he raped at least one servant in the Red Keep, by showing the victim's perspective, as if he wasn't doing the same in the book. Whe even n Septon Eustace, who was pro-Aegon and tried to paint him in the best light possible, says he was groping every servant in the Red Keep, you know things are bad.

@@bazingonator They're both accuses of being into really young girls in the books. And the show didn't include either, fortunately deciding to reduce the amount of pedophilia. They also left out Aegon getting a BJ from a girl who couldn't have been over 12 years old when they find him drunk in a child fighting pit, according to Mushroom. (Is Mushroom reliable? No, he likes stories of sexual depravity. But neither is Eustace, who was biased in favor of Aegon, when he tries to debunk that story by saying Aegon was with a paramour who was the daughter pf a trader and well taken care of. If Eustace was telling the truth, why does the third source, Munkun, just vaguely say he was "at his revels", trying to avoid saying anything more? Or another story, by Mushroom, that he impregnated a girl whose virginity he bought at a brothel Both Aegon and Daemon are creepy and at least borderline pedophiles if you believe some of the stories about them in the book. Aegon at this point in the book only has his sexual behavior and his petulance as his defining traits. If anything, the show made him way more complex and sympathetic by focusing on his emotional issues, his insecurity and desire to be loved and validated, and on him not wanting to be king. (Which comes from just one line in the book that came off as Eustace bullsh1tt8ng to make him look better)

My point is they are "confirming" every horrible rumor about him and not doing the same to many other characters. A child fight ring? Where? When did that even happen? Ok then where is Rhaenyra being the one behind Laenor's murder, where is Rhaenyra ordering the killing of Vaemond? When it comes to that those are "only rumors" "the source is not 100%true" they even whitewashed some of the team green characters But the energy they have towards Aegon is totally different and we know why, because the dance has always been about him and Rhaenyra. Yet the writers insist that they are making him morally grey but there's no going back from what they did to his character and no one will ever see him as morally grey the way Rhaenyra is seen Which is lamentable because we could've had a show that divided it's viewers in equal numbered teams just like the story was

Don’t stop and make The Greens edits, there are so many The Blacks ones in this fandom! Great video, thanks for it! I can only say with certainty that the creators of the show are not for Blacks and not for Greens, but they are definitely against Aegon the Second. If to think about it, all The Greens characters were given moments for sympathy: Alicent was made more passive, Aemond is not a full-fledged maniac, as in the book, Helaena was given more charm, but all the scenes with Aegon are a humiliation for his character, as if the showrunners were afraid, that he will be liked by many (anyway, they won't make me dislike him), didn’t give him his Sunfyre and their connection (they give it all to Rhaenyra, meh), they didn’t give him motivation from Criston, who says that if he doesn’t take the throne, then his relatives will be killed. The show has vilified or demeaned the male characters in comparison to the female ones, which is depressing. It’s good that Aegon is played by such a talented Tom Glynn-Carney, who is able to pull his character out of the bottom in just a couple of minutes, as he did in the ninth ep. Love him (both: character and actor). Long live The King!

Even as black fan myself I was sad aegon didn't get much sunlight esp with his dragon! One of the main players strange decision there and a total misuse of budget and editing EP 9 near the end. It's like the people who made ep 8 left and other people made ep 9. If ep 8 director made ep 9 we would see sunfyre epic moment like the viserys walk we got beforehand. Show he's misunderstood but still has his moments too. He's been forced into this just how alicent was by her father it's tragic and Otto's the real villian of this show in my opinion

Even tho I'm team daemon I hate how we hardly saw aegons dragon in season 1 and yes got big backburner compared to aemond. Even cristion isn't as cool as the books apperantly so hopefully season 2 fixes these issues

Если они хотели сочувствия к эйгону а такой вопрос был как мы видим из интервью с одним из сценаристов то нахрена было добавлять было ту сцену с насилием. Мне так жаль тома актер он крутой я не смогла не влюбиться в его улыбку, его представление об эйгоне такое ваах что только Тому я и доверяю. Санфаера не показали, рейнис с её драконихой испортили моему чмоне его коронацию но он все равно был крут клянусь вся сцена с его слезами решимость а то как Алисента встала перед эйгоном вот он мой герлбосс момент

Читаю комментарий, и ощущение, будто это мой, потому что я согласна почти со всем, что вы написали 🙃 Сцена с Рейнис - кринж, Алисента - герлбосс, Эйгон - чмоня, но любимая. Тома и вправду жаль: очень ценно, что он хотя бы попытался отстоять своего персонажа перед сценаристами и искренне переживает за его целостность и развитие. Единственный момент: я бы не сказала, что в сериале очевидная про-черная позиция (хотя до серии 8 я была убеждена в этом процентов на 99). Косяки Рейниры и Ко показывают, но тут проблема восприятия их зрителями. Яркий пример - Деймон. Многие до сих пор уверены, что он хороший любящий муж и брат, хотя сам Кондалл в одном из интервью посмеялся над этим. При этом нельзя сказать, что Деймону польстили: по-моему, с него, наоборот, сбили флер неоднозначности и мэрисьюшности.

Сцена с Рэйнис вообще ненужная была, реально girl boss moment, который испортил эпическую коронацию настоящего преемника престола. Рейнира просто дура, других слов нет. Если и так никто в 7 королевствах не хочет видеть тебя на железном троне, то по крайней мере, не делай себе хуже, рожая бастардов. А Дэймону мозгов не хватает. Вроде взрослый мужик, а ведет себя безрассудно и импульсивно. Почему-то все забыли, что он убил свою жену ни за что практически. А сцена с Эйгоном, где он изнасиловал прислугу, - такого в книгах не помню. Очередной грязный ход сценаристов, чтобы завлечь зрителей на сторону черных. И вообще ни одной сцены с Эйгоном и Санфаером, хотя они очень близки. И вообще, у него самый красивый дракон))

Он импульсивный, возможно, безрассудный, но не тупой)) Сцена в финальном эпизоде, где он душит Рейниру и говорит о Визерисе как о дураке, который верил в сказки, для меня была как чистосердечное, по сути: мужик просто играл роль любящего брата и мужа. И то, что в его игру все поверили (включая зрителей), доказывает, что Деймон тот еще хитрый жук. Хотя я об этом догадалась чуть раньше: когда он притащил юную Рейниру на уличное представление и начал капать на мозги, мол народ ее не примет, и ей обязательно нужен соправитель. Кто? Конечно же, добрый дядюшка Деймон готов предоставить свои услуги)) А в остальном, да, все так. Рейниру выбелили и вычистили до скрипучего блеска, а Эйгона, наоборот, смешали с помоями Блошиного конца. Простить такой контраст я готова только в том случае, если станет ясно, что замышлялся он ради крышесносного твиста для зрителя, который не читал книгу. Когда "законная наследница" станет отвратительным политиком с приступами паранойи, а вечная чмоня Эйгон возьмет себя в руки, возмужает и на фоне сестры окажется не самым худшим вариантом.

edit the greens as much as u want bro u got a few more people left hehe also really glad u address some of the characterization stuff of Aegon in the description but it's kinda fitting? how history is more likely to paint women a certain way in comparison to men and a lot of the time, the worst things men can do get swept under the rug while the most minute annoyances of a woman can be over exaggerated to the point that history is simply inaccurate. loved the vid and do agree with u that pathetic villains are just kinda... sad but not in a sympathetic way, just in a "he makes me feel bad" way

Tbh, every time I post a video about greens, I expect a flurry of criticism and dislikes, but I get support and love, so thank you very much for your comments 💚 As for Aegon, I just don't think it's fair to draw him worse than he is in canon. Aegon looks pathetic and the writers seem to think he doesn't deserve more screen time because some of the awful things about him (which were made up for the show) were just said by other characters instead of shown. And the audience believed it. It's also a shame they didn't show Aegon with his dragon, because their relationship is quite sweet and touching. I suppose it would make the character more likable, and the writers don't really benefit from that. Even the actor (according to the interview I read) does not really agree with the way his character is written... I hope next season we will see the development of Aegon
