Hauerwas starts at 9:23 Ostensibly, they have death, suffering, temptation, sin, hope, and the various quintessential aspects of the human experience. I'm guessing that Hauerwas' observation about death certainly isn't exclusive of other common ground and might be about the way in which we may attempt to escape or suppress discussions of death or even dark topics (think our cultural Denial of Death). Christianity and thinking is much richer when these topics are confronted with truth, humility, and wisdom.
The first enemy of the family was Christianity???? Seriously???? The Christian Faith sanctified the Family celibacy is not contradicting the family but a way of balancing it.

Your distorting that verse, Our Lord is implying that you should love God before anyone else.

What Hauerwas means is that Christianity opposes the idolatry of the family, says that blood ties are not final. He likes to put statements in a shocking form in order arrest the attention.
