Actually, Laverne was born in 1911, Maxene was born in 1916, and Patty in 1918, but you got the death years right

This clip makes me sad, in a way. Laverne died the year after this was aired. Beautiful, beautiful music.

Laverne was my favourite Andrews sister. I am sure she was a very nice lady. She was already very sick then. She died a few months after that programme.

Laverne was my favorite too. She had a reputation for being well dressed and was always perfectly made up. She also was quite modest about her talents.

Me too! She reminds me of myself in a way. Lol. Although I really loved Maxine, too. I did like Patty as well, but I think she was kind of a brat.

I happened to learn about Al Dexter while reading about Shady Shores, TX, which he helped to incorporate in his later years. Turns out he's buried just a few minutes from where I am, so I've paid my respects while humming his "Pistol Packin' Mama." And for those who are big on golf, you'll find Byron Nelson nearby.

My late Dad (a WW II veteran) absolutely loved the Andrews Sisters - It's still clear in my mind that he always used the same expression when he recalled them - "The Best!" Seeing this makes me well appreciate what he meant. Thanks Alan!

Thanks to a video game called Fallout 4, I am able to find out about this treasure of the WW2 era. The song that got stuck in my head was called Civilization, but they also had Pistol Packin Mama as well. I just like Civilization better, it has a nicer jingle.

every time I hear his disemboidied voice on the commericials I think of watching his variety show. The Andrews Sisters 78's were part of my first memories...and I have those records of my Dad's if only I had a record player for 78's.

There is nothing more pathetic than watching aging performers perform past their prime when they haven't aged gracefully.

You're comment is pathetic. They were still recording successful albums for Dot Records.
