I read that Lord Brougham, the Lord Chancellor back in the 1800s, had an opinion on what it was like working with George III, George IV, and William IV. He said that George III would ask too many questions and then never wait for a response, he would often answer them himself. George IV didn't ask questions because he thought it would make him look stupid. William IV however would ask what he needed to know because he genuinely wanted to understand things. I cannot say what makes a good King, President, etc. But a complete lack of intellectual curiosity has made many a bad one.
@OcarinaSapphr-21 күн бұрын
William IV also had the advantage of being a younger son - let me explain: as a younger son he didn't have as many societal limitations on him- he served in the navy in his youth (he'd end up with the nickname, 'the Sailor King')- & the navy, more than the army {where people sold commissions & bought their appointments & promotions} had people _earn_ their position - officers also wouldn't be able to serve important roles *without* sufficient technical knowledge, so that speaks to William's intellect -- of course, William could have been savvy about military matters & still have known d^ck about politics & governance- but his willingness to do his best, & learn from others- ensures his place as a good, if not great monarch.

The English Kings started speaking English, as opposed to French, in the 1300s, 250 years after William the Conqueror. So, it figures that the native languages of Aegon and Aemond would by then have been the common language of Kings Landing. Aemond then bothered to learn Valyrian and, being very driven, knows it fluently. Aegon? Along with the rest of his studies, not so much.

Aegon landed with much fewer men than William and, to have an easier time ruling, kept the common tongue at court. William tried to control England much more than Aegon tried to control Westeros. Basically, Aegon II is just like Jeoffrey I, That stupid Lannister abomination just happened to have a very pompous upbringing from his family. Having little to no limitations in terms of wants, power, privilege, and wickedness. Aegon II on the other hand have had a mediocre childhood - contented to be the "spare or an emergency" trump card in case the greens would realize their plan - very efficiently executed by his grandfather. He was so sure of himself that he won't be the king and yet he was suddenly given the responsibility to rule and bestowed upon power to do (more of) what he wants. In this show, often than not, the actions of all those tragic people were just an after effect of another one's actions - a reactive force that would put everything else in motion - unfortunately, towards their own doom.

@@rahmatmanurung8133 oh thanks. Now it makes sense. Cuz even though Aegon clearly loved and respected Aemond it's okay to burn him alive because of jokes

@@TheHellyeahmen I like Aegon/Aemond duo but to say Aegon respected Aemond? Nah. I get it he had his own insecurities but he had to make Aemond to be miserable too. He did it to him since he was young in ep 6 season 1. Look at how different Jace as big brother to Luke. Anyway I still like Aegon/Aemond as brothers so I look forward to see their confrontation later.
@TheHellyeahmen22 күн бұрын
@@rahmatmanurung8133 he did respect him. He called him his best sword and it was definately not a joke. He was genuine And calling him the closest blood as an argument is definately a sign of at least some love And he didn't want Aemond to be miserable. If you watch Aegon closely you will see that he's not a mean person. He just doesn't understand that he hurts people with his rude behaviour
@rahmatmanurung813322 күн бұрын
@@TheHellyeahmen That's why I would like to see some scenes of them to talk about their feelings, just two of them. I see how interesting their dynamic could be as brothers. They both are messed up because of their parents and upbringing. Aegon was never be good role model as big brother because he's lazy to study and loved drinking, also he raped the maid in season 1. Aemond also had his mistakes of course: burned his brother. Oh well I just hope the showrunners would not make their relationship worse than already has now. While in the book Aemond never attacked Aegon so it's sad to me.

He was helpless to be undermined like that in front of his council, he had all the authority but no credentials to compete with his brother on an intellectual level. I guess alongside what his mother told him of his inheritance, this was another of the main reasons he felt he had to prove himself at Rook’s Rest.

I am team Black, loud and proud but this is too damned much. They went out of their way to make Aegon the biggest dummy on this show. Like, now he can't even truly speak Valyrian?! You can tell Aegon is a character these writers don't like.

Aegon did what his mother had raised him too. He fought against Rhenyras side of the family. She didn't call him to the council meetings when she and Otto took over and left him to sate his hedonism and then she wonders why things went wrong. Hopefully, Aemond will slam this on her next episode. 2 24 3 in their heads: Did he say what I think he said? Oh I'm certain he did. Why did we crown this 1 again?
