Aegon remorselessly humiliated Aemond in front of the Kingsguard and mocked him for being in a position of vulnerability in the very last episode. This is quite a bit different than starting a war by killing a scared child who used to tease you 6 years ago. On top of that, Aemond does covet the Throne and is clearly pissed that Aegon brashly interfered with Cole's plan. This was the breaking point for Aemond, so he took the opportunity to punish Aegon and remove from power someone he views as a liability.

He emasculates Aemond in public despite Aemond's loyalty, (like advising Aegon to not risk himself in battle in Episode 3). I think he was loyal up until the brothel scene. Very few people can hold on to a philosophy or principle that constantly bears unfavorable results. He devoted himself to a brother who treated him like a joke so eventually he turned on him. He devoted himself to a mother that was not there for him so eventually he discarded her. In the last scene he has with Helaena in the finale, he seems to have some genuine affection in his voice when he’s asking for her help. When she calls him out on Aegon and tells him he’s going to die, you can see the hurt in his eyes. Helaena was that last person he’d ever expect to turn her back on him and I expect this loneliness will be the reason for the rest of his book behavior.
@rahmatmanurung81333 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you said. The thing is many people undermine the effect of bullying in the family and they should compare the way Aegon behaved as older brother to Jace's practising swords with Luke. His father also did not care at all about him loosing ONE EYE had affected him to have view as the second son he was not important. I don't like him to dracarys his brother 😅 and treated his mother impolite but it was supposed to be not that hard to see from where it's coming. I guess Helaena as sister who's closer to him like Phia Saban said, knew how to stop him from not being obssesed with the throne anymore.

My theory always was that Aemond isn't cruel, rather ruthless. Difference being that like lets say difference between Ramsey Snow and Tywin Lanister. Aemond doesn't enjoy hurting people. Rather he sees world binary. 1 - what is my goal. 2 - what is in the way of my goal. In that frame of mind, I always assumed that Aemond didn't desire crown, nor wished to harm his brother. Rather, Aegon ruined well prepared plan and got in the way, got entangled with Aemonds target. Aemond was ready to take the shot, so he took it. Just like he always does, no love nor hate has place in that. And just like he always does, once what happened has happened, he rolled with it and continued with new status quo.

It actually does make sense. He's always resented Jace, Luke, and Joff for being ahead of him in the succession. And he always thought Jace and Luke were behind the taunts they made with Aegon. He's always known that Aegon was unworthy of being king but always kept his resentments at a minimum. When Aegon and his lickspittle made fun of him in the brothel he realized it was the other way around, Jace and Luke were just the crowd for Aegon's jokes. Thus when he saw Aegon going into battle on dragon back knowing that he would screw up he saw an opportunity. Luke was dead at his hands and now he could do the same for Aegon, taking the thrown he always wanted.

People saying " his sword being out bc he was on the battlefield and their are enemy soldier" are somewhat missing the details. Aemond was heading away from the battlefield with his sword drawn, not towards it. He is on the attacking side so the likelihood of needing to use his sword are slim to non especially since non of his enemies stepped outside the castle. The way I see it is he had the thought to kill Aegon at that moment but might have changed his mind by the time he got a look at him. The other reason is that he checking to see if Aegond was to far from saving and would be justifiable to end his suffering. We already know Aemond wanted the to be king and felt as if he deserve. Hes felt this way before and after getting the largest dragon.

Bare in mind that part of Criston's army were men who previously declared for Rhaenyra. They were forced to join Cole. Some had to watch their lord get executed in this episode. Watching Aegon fall down, one might see it as an opportunity to go and finish the green's king. Aemond knew this, he had to protect himself.
@Bft1494 ай бұрын
@@Mthondolovhanii99 But we see these men be used as cannon fodder. At the beginning of the battle we see that those that where loyal with the greens and the greens themselves where at the tree line meaning it is the place where there is more green knights and safest place. Plus Aemond has his dragon sure he isn’t there and more likely bc of trees but still around so it would have been better to use it than a sword.

In terms of judging a character's morality based on the harm they've caused to innocents (either directly or indirectly), Aemond is pretty clean and his only real stain is Luke, which was an accident caused by his reckless negligence. Aegon comes out WAY dirtier than Aemond, and he's directly wronged Aemond multiple times. He's a rapist, idiotic king who made every single bad decision, up to and including murdering 99 innocent men. The brothers never held any love for each other, and Aegon's death would absolutely benefit the realm. The only reason Aemond's actions at Rook's Rest are questionable is because they're siblings, but Aegon never treated Aemond like a sibling, he treated him like a dog.

I really don't think Aemond had his sword drawn to strike and kill Aegon. He was walking through a battlefield, Vhaegar wasn't there to protect him and there is no way Aemond knew if Sunfyre would attempt to attack him or not as he approached. Imo it made narrative sense that he had his sword out as only an idiot would dismount a dragon after torching half an army and think himself not an immediate target. If he had really wanted Aegon dead, Cole wasn't going to stop him even if he was allowed to, which I'm still unsure if he is. The Kingsguard was previously shown to not be allowed to intervene between royals when Queen Alicent took a dagger and attempted to attack Luke. Regardless or not, even without armor or Vhaegar, Aemond would still win that fight 9/10 times.

In Fire and Blood, I never got the sense they had an antagonistic relationship. Aemond refused to be called King Regent and Aegon commissioned a statue of his brother. At best, you have a normal sibling relationship of ups and downs with these two. I thought they'd frame it as Aegon making a calculated decision to free Aegon and Sunfyre from Meleys but the two were so entangled, he had to act now or lose them both. But straight up trying to murder you brother with no remorse but the kid who crippled you and also bullied you makes you sad boy?

I think Aemond's goal was to keep his brother alive while he is disfigured and cant get involved with the ruling of the kingdom. We see his frustration with Aegon at the beginning of the episode and later on when Aegon shows up to disrupt Aemond's plan he wants to make sure his brother will never be able to do that again. He wanted power for sure but i think he wants to win the war more than he wants the crown and Aegon was a obstacle on the way he just wanted to remove. First he tried talking and when that didnt work he just took the control of things. I believe this makes Aemond a much worse person than Daemon. Daemon didn't betray his brother even he when he wanted and could have easily do so.

Aegon wasn't the target, yet Aemond decided to sacrifice his brother in order to finish the enemy and win the war. Power wasn't the motivation, it was for duty. All childhood bullying, and the fact that Aegon is piece of sht and useless king only helped to make it easy. In my opinion this scene would be better written if the attack on Aegon had come from the enemy, and the brother had ended his pain by the sword. it would have kept open the question if he did for power or mercy, or both.

Even before he pulled his sword in the forest, he ordered Vhagar, aka the most powerful dragon, to burn the range where both Maelys AND Sunfyre were. And Sunfyre is practically a baby compared to the monster of old that is Vhagar. Did he expect his brother, the one who is 100% inexperienced in battle, to perform some kind of never-seen-before move and avoid the flames? Oh please... He clearly wanted to off his bully and he did it in front of thousands of people because he doesn't care. As long as he has Vhagar, Aemond feels invincible.

Aemond was sheaving his sword when Cole came upon him. We the audience know this, but to Cole with his more limited perception and greater distance it may not have been as clear. I don't think Aemond was aiming to _directly_ murder Aegon, but 'accidentally' burning him and Rhaeny's at the same time was very likely exactly what he was intending. Especially since Vhagar doesn't always listen to him giving Aemond a ready made excuse for the 'error'. And honestly...? Given the situation Aegon and Sunfyre were in even if Vhagar _hadn't_ breathed fire on them and had physically intervened she's so big and Sunfyre was already so injured that catastrophe was likely to befall Aegon anyway.

What could have been better was that Rheanys and Aegon fought Aegon harmed melys and Vhegar attacked and in the fighting Sunfyre went down. Then they could have had Aemond standing over Aegon burned body thinking about killing him but stopping before Cole showed up. the way they showed Aemond burning Aegon was ridiculous. They could have had the same arc whiteout trying to kill his brother. Aegon still gets burned and Aemond still ends up prince regent

I don't believe the Aemond was going to kill Aegon in that final scene, you can see he is CLEARLY putting his sword away before Criston even calls on him, so it's likely he only had it out cause he had to approach Aegon on foot and came across a soldier fleeing the battle, whether his own or a Rooksrest soldier trying to take out the King. But why would he fire at Aegon on dragon back? Most likely because it was the safest way for him to seperate Melyse and Sunfyre, without knocking Aegon from his dragon and risking the much higher likelyhood of becoming a Kingslayer. On the topic of Luke, he 'lost his temper that day', meaning he didn't have much thought on the matter of ending him cause he was angry at Luke. I believe he knew what he was doing because he was calmer, he had the upper hand with it being a sneak attack from his end and not being attacked from the clouds by Luke.

Just been watching your videos and they are concise and very informative. I was hoping if you could analyse Luffy from One piece. Seems to be the character that holds immense power and influence in the series but does not want to rule anything. Maybe the leader that the world deserves.

People thinking Aemond was about to kill his brother really didn't look closely... The sword never changes position, he paused, then slid the sword down into its sheath which is what he was in the process of doing. Funny how we all can see the exact same thing and have different observations.

Yea, i dont care what the rationalization of fans or foes alike is for aemond. Its not that his actions dont make any sense or have bad motivations, its that they lead us, the viewers to believe this character was something he isnt. If he wanted payback for his brother mocking him in the brothel, the aemond that was presented to us earlier in the series would have done nothing, watch ageon his brother fall/lose to rhanyera then swoop in when all hope is lost to save the day, reverse the situation. OR if his brother won against rhayena (doubtful, she's more experienced and bigger dragon) simply sit by as his new confidence pushes him to do something even dumber, swoop in later to save the day, same result just longer wait. The aemond the show presented us with in his youth and up to present time would have gamed this out the way I explained just now, not go do something THAT impulsive/chaotic. Down 1 dragon, everyone hates you, the realm unstable under your rule as regent.

“They made fun of me, you know. Because I was different” You know who is constantly aware, right from childhood, that they are different? You know who is great at maintaining a singular focus and mastering numerous skills without distraction? Who would steal their aunts dragon on the day of her death without giving her children the opportunity to claim it? Do you know who talks about their regrets in a clinical manner, but doesn’t ever seem to let it truly affect them? Psychopaths. Aemond is a psychopath. Psychopathy gets a bad rap. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a raging psycho killer. It means that you aren’t distracted or motivated by emotion. Absent those distractions, you can actually be incredibly wise and an excellent leader. You can reduce difficult decisions down to basic math. What will help the most people? So what if it kills others? The math is all that matters.

I thought it was stupid she turned around to face veghar after she was getting away and the king looked dead. Is that in the book does she really think she can take on veghar and die?? Someone tell me I don't know the books

I don't see how its hard for some to picture it. His brother teases him from childhood, his brother got the attention, has everything he wants, Aemond is a hot head that doesn't mind killing. He feels he can do more for his family if he was in his brother's position. Aemond has the motives and ability to kill his brother.

What if Aemond never truly regretted Luke's death? What if in his attempt to rationalize what happened to Luke (a person he hated) he ended up lying to himself by essentially blaming Vaghar and/or considering what happened and accident? That could explain why Aemond did try to murder Aegon, he rationalize such act as something he has to do to ensure the realm prosperity because he believe he would make a better king than his brother (brother who had bullied him for all their shared childhood). Aemond has clearly some sociopathic tendencies, and sociopaths tend to dismiss their actions as either accidents or something that would benefitted other people.

I was making an hypothesis based of my knowledge of the character in question and the actions he committed, as such I presented it as an hypothetical interpretation of the events we all saw, not a truth I'm trying to impose on to others. Do you have a counter-argument for my hypothesis or you are just pity?

@@thefirminator aemond was embarrassed seeing out in the open when he usually sees her at night in private. He actually cares a lot about Sylvi but is just embarrassed and don’t wanna seem weak which we already saw when aegon mocked him about it. so that’s a reach at best. Ontop of which 13 is not that young in terms of the story. Corly and Rhaenys was gonna have their daughter have sex with the king by the time she was 14 or 15. You act as if aemond was taken against his will, he was a better fighter and not timid, he would reject if he wanted. Y’all just love making aegon the villain, but he really does very little wrong in the grand scheme of things.
