I've been struggling with getting the sync state on an EMS4 could you explain the default crank tooth settings? For example 36-1vr crank 1vr cam sets to 24 fuel teeth, 24 wheel teeth, 24 spark teeth etc.. My scenario is a 1981 BMW 316. I have a 36-1 crank sensor and an equally spaced (stock) 4 tooth cam sensor.

SO...at 7:30 when you suggest shifting timing by a full 360deg, is that achievable by pressing large advance or retard 72 times?? I believe this is my no start reason

Correct, you can also manually adjust the cam sync adjustment/trigger offset in the advanced setup.

not sure if you have figured it out yet, but there is a “sync tooth” parameter that sets where your ignition sync actually is in a numerical value. it will be out of 24 for a 24 tooth trigger (evo / dsm / rb series / ect). if your timing sync value is 6.255 and its perfect, you would add 12 to this giving you 18.255 and that would give you exactly what you are looking for.
