Thanks for sharing! Very cool to hear the "chatter" back and forth. So many yachts on the Fort Lauderdale New River. I'm at River Reach condo and love these super yachts coming just outside my window. Many residents sit by the west pool just to see the daily boat parade and Jungle Queens comes by a couple times a day. Then the super huge motor yacht with the tugs. Cool boat life here in Fort Lauderdale. Thanks again Captain!

Glad to share! I have a few videos showing the traffic along the river - working on a longer video that shows the whole route from the ocean to LMC .. one up there now about the Little Florida hairpin turn… and some about our adventures to the Bahamas. Thanks for the comments and we’ll see you along the river sometime soon (currently on the hard at LMC for repairs)

Quiet day for superyachts - even Northland hardly counts. Lovely video though - great light and clarity! Thanks

It shouldn't be challenging if the captain and crew pay attention and communicate. I have been here over 5 months... it's just traffic and yahoos but on boats. Beautiful, wonderful people in Ft. Lauderdale, they are just people... unless the behave pretentious, ignore them. Great community and boating world. Professionals all along the Intracanal. Be respectful and they will be very helpful. RESPECT and love from a now well trained mate (professional chef) from my friends in Ft. Lauderdale. Wisconsin sends love your way.

Quite right! All kinds of people out there.. our boat was hit by someone who failed to stop and report it while we were out of town so some good some bad out there on the waterways have to be careful and look out for each other!

I have been running up and down the New River since the 1950’a. Other than traffic it’s the same river. Much more congested.
@WanderbirdLife
@WanderbirdLife Жыл бұрын
Neat seeing the old photos. I imagine the congestion is worse but some newer boat technology like pod drives and bow thrusters. Although a guy in a boat with a joystick control still ran into us last week!
@roadboat9216
@roadboat9216 Жыл бұрын
@@WanderbirdLife Yes, very good point. I use to bring a 48’ vessel single screw and no thrusters, and when the current was flowing toward the bridge while waiting for an opening. Wow, that was a hand full. Even twin screw and no thruster was a big improvement. And now, joystick control….. Wonderful.
@roadboat9216

@@WanderbirdLife Oh, I see you said that a guy with joystick ran into you? Bummer. It still takes skill, and a touch of luck sometimes. Technology or not.
@WanderbirdLife

That's right - even with the joystick and all the technology... he bumped into us and sheered off the swim ladder mount. Still, nice to have improvements in technology. @@roadboat9216

Is that the latest Burger waiting for an opening? Really nice layout. Just saw the name and realized it is (Northland). Damn nice job Burger.

@csjrogerson2377 Жыл бұрын
Nah, Burger have made much bigger yachts than that. I drove a 143 ft for 3 years. They built a 165ft after that. They were good boats and the support from the yard post build was superb unlike some Italian and British yards.

@@csjrogerson2377 Yeah, I delivered the last two large boats, Lady Gail Marie, and Sea Owl from Manitowoc to Palm Beach for the handover to the new owners. Both were absolutely terrific boats. I believe Northland is the only ‘yacht’ they’ve built since then, although there is a much larger successor to Ingot under construction now with an after garage large enough to hold a 33+ foot Intrepid.

Nineteen thirteen. They were still using horse and buggy. The Model T came out in 1909. We moved to Ft Lauderdale in 1952. On a canal off of the New River down by Broward Marine area. In 1960 we moved to Hendricks Isle just off of Las Olas. We had a 10 unit apartment building with a couple of docks. It was very nice to not have to navigate the New River anymore. My dad sold the apartments for 160K a few yrs later. Todays it’s probably worth 20 million! Yeah, BIG changes there. And if we think that the boat traffic is bad……..wow, the road traffic!

@@WanderbirdLife Very nice. I now live in NC coast. Left Ft Lauderdale in 1990 in my sailboat and sailed much of the world Moved back to Miami with my business in 1982. The business is still going strong. Laser Production Network. We produce all of the laser displays that you may have seen in the Miami / Ft Lauderdale areas. We still produce events world wide. I was the program show producer for BCC planetarium in the seventies. So yeah, we do have some history in the area. Was a nice place to grow up. Can’t imagine 1913 in Ft. Lauderdale. When we built our house in the “citrus isles” off of 9th ave, people told us that we were nuts to be building “way out there”. We were 9 blocks from down town! Ha ha. Fully navigable new waterfront home for $16,000. That place is now worth a million plus. Oh my!

I bring a 58' Leopard sailing catermen, though there at low tide the mast is 90' . The authorized clearance on the cart is 80' . Clears the line by 8' or 10'. 380000 volts. 😢. Tow boat companies will not tow the boat under the lines. I blew a steering line coming out of LMC . Had to wait two days for mechanic to fix it to get the boat back to Pompano.

Up river are several shipyards, most are headed to Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center for repairs or temporary dockage. They do generate a lot of tax income from the support business base. Whether the millionaire/billionaire business owners are taxed enough is a matter of opinion likely to generate plenty of discussion!
