These aviation documentaries produced by the Year 2 Level 3 Media students (2023-24) at Farnborough College of Technology (FCOT) in collaboration with FAST will be uploaded here over the coming week. Each film features footage from the FAST film archive.

"I am pleased to highlight the exceptional collaboration between Farnborough College of Technology's Media department and the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST), which has resulted in an enriching and impactful extracurricular experience for our media learners. FAST has provided a diverse array of opportunities, trips, and projects aimed at preserving Farnborough's aeronautical history while engaging students in hands-on media production. Within this project, our second year (L3) media learners have co-produced a series of six documentaries, delving into various aspects of Farnborough's aeronautical heritage, which has been directly incorporated into our curriculum in the way of 'live briefs'. Beyond documentary production, students engaged in group proposal presentations, received feedback and direction on their briefs through talks and visits, and tackled bespoke assignment briefs tailored to incorporate archival footage, photos, and expert advice from FAST.
The collaboration extended beyond the classroom as well, with students having the opportunity to visit the Ark Postproduction and Restoration site in London, collaborate with aero researchers from FAST, the British research community and the wind tunnel, and participate in off-site filming with clients. Notably, the involvement of the aeronautic engineering department and aeronautical researchers has been particularly critical to engage with this series of projects.
Additionally, degree-level learners undertook a special project, filming interviews with aero specialists and producing a series of short documentaries for a museum installation, guided by bespoke industry director/editorial expertise."
