Aeroflot has announced that it has purchased 10 Boeing 777s from an Irish lessor. It comes as they try to rebuild their network, which has been severely damaged due to sanctions. This is the second time the airline has purchased aircraft. Last year announcing, eight additional Airbus A330s joined the fleet.
2023 will be an essential year for Aeroflot as they note they want to rebuild their international network. However, this is a touchy area given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which will largely determine the future outlook for Aeroflot.

Makes me wonder how long the grey area loophole will be left open to them or even will it closed off!?

These are Russian business people tryna keep their business going. Many may not think of them in this way only cause if Aeroflot was more vocal they'd be promptly be sent over a hotel balcony In short I'm not one for supporting sabotaging airliner safety in a effort to squeeze a already crippling country

They've pretty much operated in that grey area most of 2022. Question is, these are aircraft that Aeroflot was leasing and made deals to purchase, but what about the newly acquired A350, A320 series and the sort that were delivered just before the conflict began?
@Sophie-and-Ken
@Sophie-and-Ken Жыл бұрын
As long as they pay lease payments on the planes and can show proper maintenance they are legal to fly. If not they will be sold as scrap as these 777s were. After the lease expires they lose their insurance and can’t fly. Also they won’t own the plane so they can’t get a flight worthiness certificate.

I don't see a problem here. The planes were already stranded in Russia, so the lessor was able to sell them and recover their money. They had no reasonable hope of recovering the aircraft otherwise.

Exactly what I was thinking. I highly doubt they would be flown INTO Russia. From Ireland or wherever.

The problem is that there maintenance logs are compromised! This means that the planes will have to be stripped and Everything checked before they can be re-certified!! They are basically scrap!

@@robinholmes785 Who cares? That's Aeroflot's problem, now. They evidently have a plan. As for the lessor, they unloaded eight planes that they had probably written off as lost.

It's still going to be difficult for Aeroflot to fly these aircraft outside of the Russian Federation. Even were sanctions to be lifted they'd likely need to spend a lot of money to address the lack of approved maintainance. Possibly their intention is to attempt to lease other aircraft post sanctions. Even if they can the lessors are likely to offer very unfavourable terms. The obvious assumption is that Aeroflot has paid full price plus costs to the lessors. Which may raise questions about where they, or the Russian Government, got the money.
@asicdathens
@asicdathens Жыл бұрын
Maintenance became questionable the moment sanctions started. All western planes in ruZZia (even Embraers) have airworthiness revoked . They can use these internally as long as they can cannibalize parts from other planes. Also the lost access to maintenance updates to navigation software.

They show up in all sorts of places, according to flight tracker apps. Maybe the planes can get maintained in friendly-to-Russia countries?
@markevans2294

@@QCCatPlanes IIRC China refused to maintain Russian aircraft rather than risk not being able to obtain spare parts for Chinese registered aircraft. The serial numbers of parts are cross referenced with aircraft. Often parts their own service histories of which aircraft they were installed on and when.

They really didn't purchase them from anyone. The company they purchased them is a Russian government owned company using a flag of convenience in Ireland. So all that happened was Aeroflot purchased these out right from the Russian government. That way they don't have to worry about these being seized if they flt them out of Russia to a foegien land.
