OMG! Did he deploy thrust reversers before touchdown ?! That's insanely cool !!

+kirkjamestkirk is normal and routine in soviet planes to deploy reverse before touch..just deploy,and then when all the wheels are in the runway is when u can apply the trust....in other case they can overun the runway,in other words,russian planes need more space to stop....check the landing speed with another planes and u will see they come to fast
@luchatrokaalvaradoguajardo51859 жыл бұрын

@Slaterator The thrust reverser buckets are deployed in the last stage of final approach. They act as airbrakes by creating drag, just like the airbrakes on the Fokker F-28 and Avro 146. Power is applied only when the aircraft touches the ground. So there is no actual reverse thrust during flight!
@am1966ath13 жыл бұрын
@Pvjinflight The old soviet Aeroflot, was a huge organization with some 1500 aircrafts and some 500 000 employees. Thye flew everything from helicopters and noisy old Antonov 124 to Il-86. Aeroflot was divided into departments, some worked in hars conditions in sibirian oil fields, others flew to remote airports in soviet central asia, others flew the Il-62 and Il-86 to Tokyo,Havanna,Mexico city,London or Calcutta.
@goytabr13 жыл бұрын
@Lukoilovich, why not? The IL-62 was designed to be the East Bloc's long-range airliner and as such it was regularly operated by Aeroflot and other East Bloc airlines on routes to the US, Canada and Latin America. Cubana operated it from Havana to Europe until a couple of years ago. In fact, the IL-62's inaugural flight was from Moscow to Montreal. Also, some *domestic* nonstop routes from Moscow to the Russian Far East are longer than an Atlantic crossing, and the IL-62 still flies them.
@Tengri307 жыл бұрын
The thing with the opened thrust reverser mid air is the following: they opened them but they didn't start the reverser at all. It was like a speed brake to stabilize the plane and to slow it down. A former Interflug pilot told me.

Why do they have reverse thrust in the air?
@stevey629410 жыл бұрын
Because they can. Seriously there was no protection and if I recall correctly FCOM restricted reverse thrust at or below 15 meters AGL. In fact the common practice was to deploy the reverser flaps as a speed brakes and then apply thrust after the touchdown.
@chrmantilla9 жыл бұрын
it was not made by the pilots because they wanted to, but because it was a normal procedure for the aircraft. For example nowadays you can see the BAE 146 deploying speedbrakes befor touching down, it's established by the manufacturer of the plane and not an act of. "irresponsibility"
@lx787x9 жыл бұрын
+chrmantilla And the source of that procedure is? I have never seen official procedure mentioning thrust reverse cowl engagement in air for the IL-62M or even for the TU-154M.

The new Aeroflot is a service organization that faces internal competition and that has a more and more affluent russian clientele. @@ekl7804 If it's during the Soviet times, that's kinda problematic because the only time the Russian Tricolour Flag were being officially used during the Soviet times was throughout the end days of the Soviet Union. @@ekl7804 this is definitely not Soviet era, because there is the Russian tricolor on the tail. It has to be after the breakup of the Soviet Union and before Aeroflot retired IL-62Ms, so it can be anywhere between 1992 and 2002.
