I had to run and re-read the plant food bottle when I saw you use your measuring spoon. It looks like a lot more than two cap fulls in that, but I have watched a lot of vids on other people growing lettuce that have yields half of mine at the four week point so I’m definitely going to stick to what I’m doing. That is for showing us the proper way of cleaning the whole system!

This was SO helpful. I did not think about the ph level when my plants weren't growing. I came here to learn how to clean my aerogarden as I'm starting new tomato plants. Thank you for the great video, and so friendly too! :)

An acidic bottle of water is acidic forever and won’t become alkaline unless a salt is added. An alkaline bottle of water, with no additional salt, lasts 24 hours at most.

I have the AeroGarden Bounty. I am on my 3 generations with using the Bounty and I love it. The funny thing when you add the Nutrients it will change the PH, AeroGarden design it that way to make it easy for new people. I learned if you use hard water you will get scaling and it will be hard to clean. I use filtered water and every 30 days I give it a new water bath.

Sorry for the late reply! Looks like I missed it! Thanks for the comment. I find that in all of my hydroponic systems, the pH changes a bit with nutrients. I definitely have hard water and notice the build up. I will try filtered water and see what that does. I also notice that tap water (even though it's hard) it kind of helps to balance out my pH here and there as well as my EC. Hydroponics can be a bit tricky sometimes but I love the challenge ☺☺ Happy Gardening!

Did you know vinegar contains mold spores? NIH has info about vinegar. I quit using vinegar with hummingbird feeding. Thanks for showing how to clean under the pump! No one said how often. I will probably clean it outside, and get another Aerogarden. I like the light under my cabinets.

I'd love for you to share your research! I was always under the impression that vinegar was responsible for killing mold spores, not containing them. But science continues to expand and our knowledge continues to grow. This is truly an interesting tid bit of information.

@@themochafoodiegardener look up spores in research by NIH. I was 15 years old when I learned this. I am closer to 70 now. This is not new research. NIH mold diet.

Just so you know, I think the lid can come apart into two pieces for a better clean so you don’t have to use toothpick. However, not sure what year your model is. 🙂

Also, I was wondering how the whole ph testing thing goes. I have exactly the testers and up/down kit that you do. You taught me what to do. Thanks!

Wow! Thank you for the tip!! I think there must be newer models out. I am sure how old this model but I just tried and it doesn't seem to come apart. I will research this more. Perhaps I am doing it wrong. Thanks for the suggestion because that would make it much easier!

So I found the way to disassemble the lid!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I had no idea. It definitely takes a bit of elbow grease bit it DOES indeed come apart for easier cleaning. 😁😁 Learn something new everyday! Thank you my friend!

How much vinegar did you add for the soak?
@themochafoodiegardener2 жыл бұрын
I use about a one to one solution. Sometimes a bit more vinegar if it is really bad.

Hi Ernest! Thank you for your question! I did not clean the float and it honestly never crossed my mind (face palm) LOL! Have you found good results from cleaning your? I will have to try that next time I clean mine. This is another reason why I love doing these videos because viewers like yourself always teach me new things :-D

No need to get out the toothpick... that pod holder comes apart for easy cleaning. I would not recommend tap water under any circumstances for my body or my Aerogarden... full of nasty chemicals and contaminants.
