Fascinating stuff. Thanks for going to the trouble of making these.

I enjoy making them and appreciate your comments. Hopefully there'll be lots more films like this in the future.

Just wanted to say thank you for posting, I work as an aircraft mechanic here on the coast of British Columbia and own a 48 Vegabond and a 62 Aeronca with an o235. I have a peitenpol sky scout in the basement but. that's a long story. Fly safe, fly Vintage.

Great video, I might have a tip for you use an old peace of carpet on the ground underneath the engine so if you drop a small part it won't bounce so you can find it. When working on ignition points I always use a piece of paper to give a final clean on contact surfaces when closed to remove oil or dust. Happy safe flying.

Hi Paul, thank you for your comments. The carpet idea is genius, I shall adopt it today. I do use paper, it's a good trick 🙂

The “spanner” that you use to remove the points plate (We call then Crescent wrenches over here) reminds me of the ones I got from my father who got them from his father I suppose. They are at least 100 years old and work better than any modern ones I have seen. Great videos!

Wonderful what you can do when you get away from CAA/LAA regs. I never believed in a million years that something like SSDR microlights would ever be legal in Britain.

SSDR is wonderful and somewhat surprising for the UK. All my planned and ongoing projects are SSDR - so the voices in my head keep telling me!

Could the cracked mag drive be welded and then re-machined?

No, it's fundamentally a poor design as explained here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYjEq42oYs1lZ5Y
