There are certain places you should go like Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, Dolmabahçe and the islands. As well as places like Taksim, Beyoğlu, Emirgan. Hope you will have an amazing trip!!

The fireworks were probably to celebrate the start of Eid al-Adha also known as Greater Eid which is an Islamic religious holiday that lasts 3 days. I was in Istanbul a few years ago for Eid with some of my family who are Muslim and it was really great to see all the different traditions and practices.

Sacrifice religious holidays go on in Turkey around Oct 3 or 4. Animals are sacrificed for meals and shared among families. Don't know if that could have anything to do with the fireworks. It's a biblical holiday with very deep meaning. Xo

I cant believe this! I know its late to write this but fireworks are not that much of a big deal around here. We use them for weddings or graduaties or for birthdays or when ever we want to see them, I mean literally! You can see them every night at the Bosphorus. Btw we dont use them for eid. We have different beautiful habits to celebrate those kind of religious days.

Yesterday was the first day of Eid Aladha (a Muslim holiday) that's why there were fireworks! It's kind of like our version of Christmas (when it comes how big of a holiday it is). A very special special time indeed! :)
