Jet fuel is also called Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) or Superior Kerosene Fuel (SKF). It is used in aeroplane because of high flash point of Kerosene.
(Flash point is the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off vapor within a test vessel in sufficient concentration to form an ignitable mixture with the air near the surface of the liquid).
Flash point of Kerosene is 38-52°C whereas flash point of Petrol is -43°C which is very unsafe for aeroplane as it can be auto ignite anytime which can cause an accident of an aircraft.
